The car we got was slightly damaged but fine. The issue was, they made us pay for a second driver before they would give us the car and my husband was literally the only driver. We had no choice but to pay this unwarranted fee. Total scam. read more

Sconsiglio vivamente. read more

I really liked the people I worked with in this company, and I found the service to be efficient and well organized. The vehicle was fantastic and generally performed well. However - if you choose to use this company, you must purchase the full-coverage insurance package (which will more than double your total) - or else you are liable to be ripped off for made-up or hyper-inflated damages/charges. In my case, the agent seemed to discover a tiny flaw he said was not there at pick-up (it was trivial), uploaded a photo of the tiny mark and ran it through a smoke-and-mirrors app on his ipad, and - voila! - he suddenly claimed I owed Locauto 405€. The agent (Lorenzo) told me I would be contacted by Locauto to discuss the matter and authorize a form of payment to cover the balance. I was shocked to see that just a half hour later, Locauto had already run a charge on the credit card I had paid for the booking with - for $500. Personally, I would never, ever use Locauto again. I had a terrible experience with Locauto that I feel obligated to warn others about. After a 12-hour flight, I picked up a rental car that had visible pre-existing damage and, unknown to me at the time, a low air pressure warning already active. I was exhausted and didn't notice the warning light when I checked out the car. Less than an hour into driving, I realized the warning and called Locauto immediately to report it. They denied any responsibility and told me to return the vehicle. Upon return, they charged me over €300 to replace a single tire, despite the fact that the issue clearly existed when I received the car. It felt like a setup -- especially since I had just refused their aggressively pushed additional insurance coverage. I tried to resolve the issue through their customer service, but was met with rudeness and blame, particularly from a representative named Marika who was entirely dismissive and refused to acknowledge any fault on their side. In the end, I was left feeling scammed and extremely frustrated. I would strongly advise others to avoid Locauto, or at the very least, document every inch of the vehicle and check all warning lights before leaving the lot -- especially if you decline extra insurance. I wish I had read more reviews like this before booking. read more

Avoid LocAuto at All Costs - Classic Tourist Scam Operation If I could give zero stars, I would. LocAuto is running a blatant damage scam targeting tourists, and I'm one of many victims. After returning the rental car in the same condition it was received, I was hit with a fraudulent damage claim of 720 EUR for marks that were not present when I dropped it off. Thankfully, I had already read reviews warning of this exact scam and took time-stamped photos and videos of the car at drop-off -- proving the vehicle was returned without further damage. This is not an isolated incident -- a quick glance at reviews reveals a disturbing pattern of LocAuto inventing damage after the fact, assuming tourists won't fight back. Let me be clear: this company operates with zero integrity. Their practices are deceptive, aggressive, and designed to exploit travelers unfamiliar with the area or process. They are not to be trusted. I've disputed the charge with my bank, filed a complaint, and I strongly advise anyone considering LocAuto to look elsewhere. There are plenty of legitimate car rental companies that don't rely on trickery and fabricated fees to make money. Save yourself the headache. Avoid LocAuto like the plague. read more

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, RENT FROM LOCAUTO. It was the worst rental experience I've ever had. I was charged 745€ for a clutch failure, something that is almost impossible to happen on a new car after just a few days of careful and proper use. At drop-off, their staff assured me I wouldn't be charged extra. These guys know exactly how to scam people. Days later, I suddenly see 745€ missing from my account. No warning. No explanation. No legal proof. Only after they took the money they texted me that there was some issue with the car. When I demanded documents, they sent me some sloppily written papers and just went completely silent. No responses. Nothing. After 3 weeks they just texted me that they are sure I caused this problem... THIS IS A SCAM. Pure and simple. I'm now working on a legal case to get my money back and make sure that people are warned. I have over 10 years of experience with manual cars and I NEVER had any problems with the clutch. I handled the car as if it were my own, always with great care and respect. This clutch problem can only be explained as an issue that already existed or as a material defect, which CANNOT be blamed on someone who rented the car for just a few days. BE WARNED: They can take whatever amount of money they want from your account afterwards, offer no clear and independent evidence, and ignore your complaints. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY I put the conclusion first, if you want to avoid trouble, do not use this company. On 14th May we rented a car in Catania and returned in Palermo on 17th May. For our own safety we have driven with care and attention. My husband is a very sweet and gentle guy. We have travel & driving experiences in many countries including Japan. We live in Japan where is famous for the sensitive driving culture. Swear to God on our mothers' names, we didn't even touch a tree branch, because we went to beach only. And we recognize the scratch from the beginning, the car is full of all kinds of scratches. We were happy and proud that we made a safe trip. However, at return two big guys insisted that a new scratch has been made. They showed us a system screen of a car illustration with 15 numbers, saying that 'the new one' was not registered. When we asked the front No.1 which damage it actually refers to, the guy responded rudely that you should have confirmed when you received the car, and didn't respond to our question directly. If we do not have a picture showing how it was like, then we will have to pay for the damage. As travellers in a place that we do not speak the native language, we concerned about our safety. There was nobody else to discuss with. The amount requested was €475. Actually, we have bought insurance covering all damages, but we need a formal invoice to proceed it. Even though we have requested many times, instead of sending a formal invoice, they sent us their bank account and requested payment only. The whole process is so fishy, such an obvious bluff. I believe they know what they are doing. So bad. With hindsight, the car was rented in Catania and returned in Palermo, there was no visual images showing how exactly the car looked like at the time of rental, only 15 numbers on a car illustrate. However, it took the staff no time to spot out 'a new damage'. Without contacting or confirming with Catania office, they were super certain that the damage is new and is surely by us. We have been driving in big roads, made absolutely no collision with any object. Also, the scratch did not appear new to my eyes. After reviewing other websites, I found the reputation of Locauto has extreme ends. It is the best seller in booking.com, has many 5-star reviews on Trust Pilot mostly sound artificial and promotional. Please don't give up on customer justice. read more

Awful customer service! They provided a car with a damaged tire that was glued so I didn't notice when we got it. The car was towed, replacement was over an hour away from where we were staying. We requested a credit. It took 2 weeks to process. read more

We rented a car from Locauto/Alamo at the BARI train station in June 2025. They showed us the car parked across the street and said that someone on a Vespa was coming to bring the key there . Noone came to. Inspect the car with us . We took pictures from every side and the wheels . We returned the car at the Fiumicino Airport at Locauto Alamo . The fellow went straight to the driver's door and put the key in. Couldn't get it in and claimed that some had tried to break in . We had not used the key - since it had the key fob. Then he found a scratch on the right wheel frame . We showed the picture that we had taken of the scratch but he said this one was bigger. We had taken a full theft and collision insurance but he said it wouldn't necessarily cover . We have now all these extra charges on our credit card . We have called the Bari , Rome offices . Apparently Milano handles the complaints . There they said we needed to fill out forms online . So far no help from anywhere . We have now read several reports about fraud with Locauto and Alamo . Our travel companions rented same time from National and all went well for them read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. The car stank of stale cigarettes all week and clearly isn't cleaned / freshened properly between hires. Following handing it back I was charged €215 for some light hoovering that they had to do as with children in the car, understandably there was some routine cleaning required. I complained and got no reply or response of any meaning - just a copy of the checkout records. I eventually paid the "fine" following a legal threat. Not happy and would never use Locauto again. I have used car hire companies across Europe and USA for many years (both small independent companies ans the large international brands) and never dealt with such a poor company for car hire. DO NOT USE THEM. PAY A LITTLE EXTRA AND USE HERTZ, AVIS ETC. LOCAUTO END UP BEING MORE EXPENSIVE IN THE END. read more

I highly recommend not renting a car from Locauto. I paid a premium price (over 120 euros/day) for a car and on the first day (after about 2 hours) the screen that controls GPS and all media went black and would not restart for the balance of the four-day rental, so the car provided neither GPS nor media which was a base-line expectation on my part, if not contractually required. Upon returning the car, the representative apologized and said they would provide a refund but couldn't because the reservation was made online. The representative indicated that I should file a claim online, which I did. Locauto responded by offering only an upgrade on a future rental with them. I declined as I will never rent with them again. It is a terrible company. This should be regarded as a 0 star review. read more

This is an absolute scam - also read this if you are renting through National (and I have Executive status). I travel a lot and have never had an experience like this. We rented for 2 days. My app said return by 2:00. When we got back at 1:37 they told me the return time had changed to 1:30. They charged me over 300 euros before I could leave which was more than my entire rental for 2 days. We saw other people going through similar issues. When I sent in a complaint following the trip, they told me I also missed the 60 minute grace period. When I asked how 1:37 is more than 60 minutes after 1:30 they stopped replying. I am convinced they will find something to upcharge on every rental that is returned. read more

**CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD WITHOUT APPROVAL FOR DAMAGES NOT CLEARLY STATED*** The rental of the car and services were fine. When we received the vehicle our agent went around the car and meticulously pointed out all the damages on the car. I also took a walk around video of the car. We were happy, loaded up and went on our trip. When we went to return the vehicle the agent again went through the car. At which point they pointed out a trunk cover was not present in the vehicle. This was not shown or brought up during the check out and not clearly stated on any documents. Our agent then tried to get me to sign a document stating we would pay for the missing part. The document was in Italian and not easily legible for me an English speaking person. ***They did not provide me with an option to dispute the claim until after I refused to sign the document*** After this they said they will check with the original rental location and get back to us. And referred us to online customer support. My next communication with the company was an email notifying me I was being charged for damages on the vehicle €350. No notice was given about what the damages were nor weather they contacted the original rental location about the cover. A few days later my card was charged without authorization and without proof of damages. Seems to me this cover is an easy way for the company to scam people out of a few hundred dollars over $500 CAD without providing evidence. I am an automotive sales professional and have rented cars for years and they still managed to dupe me. Be very cautious when renting a vehicle from this company. read more

Booked through the National App for rental car to be picked up in Milan. Beware- This is NOT National! They are a local "partner" and terrible. Do your homework if going to Milan and renting a car. Stay away from National, Enterprise, and Alamo as this will all lead you to Locauto. There is another US-based rental car company with a huge local legitimate operation at the Milan airport. Choose them instead. You will save yourself a lot of grief and aggravation and also be safer. I wish I had done this. They rented us a car that had 15,000 miles on it, had never had an oil change, and was almost out of oil. Of course, we did not know this at the time of pick-up. After driving 120 miles from Milan to Modena the emergency Oil Can light came on. We pulled off in Parma and checked the oil at a gas station, checked the dip stick and it was empty. What little bit of oil there was in the dip stick was dark black sludge. We had to purchase 2 liters of oil. Showed them the receipt and empty oil cans upon return and they would not reimburse or take responsibility. They are unethical and unsafe. read more

The car didn't work. I made a request to get it exchanged and the inspector said it was on WhatsApp. They never returned my message. I then emailed and they got back to me and set me up with another office. They refused to see me until another day. I came back and spent over a couple of hours dealing with them. They said an " upgrade" was avail which meant a large gas gusling vehicle that would be to hard on skinny roads of Italy. They did have the same car but made it difficult. I was so glad to get out of there I didnt photo all sides of the car and upon return they sited me with damage. I argued with the car inspector but it's a loosing battle. They are used to up charging at the end to entice bargain hunters. They reclaim high prices by charging whatever they want in the end. They are thieves!! Bunch of thieves. Had some very minor damage upon pick up which i spotted and pointed out to the agent there. She amended the paperwork and took a photo of the damage before i took delivery of the car. Upon return they said all was good but upon return to the UK they claimed that it was not pre existing, and that the did not amend the paperwork or take photographs (I witnessed them do both upon pick up) and are charging me EU600 (it is a less than 10mm ding). Do not use under any circumstances. read more

So when you're in Florence, whatever you do, do not rent LOCAUTO Florence. ( Via Maso Finiguerra, 31R) for Alamo, National or Enterprise. They are scam artists/ crooks and not professional with Americans! They are the worst and not nice . They will actually charge you to drop off your rental at the garage they actually have a contract with!! Someone is taking cash under the table. I rented my car on a Saturday during peak hours and yet they close offices at 1 pm and then pull the scam saying the garage they have a contract with you will have to pay them even though it's their garage that you must pick up and drop off. Maybe stay open then and work like others for normal hours. Then they have the audacity to tell me you should've checked your fine print in the contract. Well, when I received the car, they never showed me the contract. They just handed me a tablet to sign my signature confirming there's no damage on the car. A copy of this letter is going to corporate at Alamo, national and enterprise as this company is seriously damaging their name and reputation, which is why they should immediately dissolve their service agreement and find another reliable professional company to take over their account Again, do not rent from Locauto while in Glorence if you are an American. There's plenty of others that are reliable and much better in the area , and won't try to scam you out of extra money. LOCAUTO are the worst and I will also notify the Florence Better Business Bureau to suggest pulling their license and or fining them. Leaving a rental car in your garage that you have a contract with is your responsibility not the customers or , stay open normal hours as opposed to closing at 1 PM during a holiday weekend . Run from LOCAUTO there's others right across the street that you can easily rent from that are honest, respectable, professional, and reliable Just a bad company, run by bad people that take a vantage of Americans read more

I rented a car in Milan for 2 weeks. And I decided to get the extra body protection insurance, just in case, because you just never know. it was a ford puma, and I really enjoyed driving the little car. i had rented for 2 weeks and was gonna turn it in at Rome. On our way out of the country and sure enough in rome, I backed into a wall causing some minor damage on the bumper. i got a little worried and was reading some other bad reviews online about locato.About how if you had body protection they would charge you for something in the interior among other things. so I was sweating it when I got to the rome airport to turn my car in. the young lady who checked my car saw that I had body insurance and told me that there was no problem. i would not be charged with the damage that I did. when I got back to the states, I got an email telling me that I owed $0 to Locauto. i had gotten myself all worked up over probably. What was just a few unsatisfied customers. my experience had no issues and no problem, so thank you, locauto. read more

Pretty bad experience with this company, booked a car for 48 days. Pickup was setup on Saturday but train arrived late, not possible to contact booking center because already closed in weekends and not possible to pickup the car the day after because I was a no show. Locauto not willing to refund the remaining days but not even offer the service of the car I booked for more than 600 euros. Terrible service to reach to talk to someone and basically a SCAM clauses. I had an extremely disappointing experience with Locauto, where I faced unjust charges for damages I did not cause. Despite renting through their partner National, known for their high standards, Locauto's lack of transparency was appalling. There were no pre- or post-rental photos taken, a standard practice ignored by Locauto, leading to baseless claims against me. Their representative, more focused on personal stories than the vehicle inspection, failed to provide a professional service. Moreover, I was misled about the coverage of the "Body Protection" insurance and never received a full rental contract. The attempt to trick me into admitting fault at drop-off was the last straw, revealing a lack of integrity at every level of Locauto. Avoid renting from them at all cost if you wish to have a transparent and fair car rental experience. Also, just read the other reviews... read more

Me and my sister had to travel from the Netherlands to Italy as our dad was in a critical condition in the hospital. We rent a car for a few days as we did not know what was going to happen yet. Our dad passed away and we asked if we could please rent the car for the same price for a few more days. They did not care and told us we had to pay the day free of €50 instead of the day price we rent it for €16. We told them it is a lot of money for us and there is already so much we need to take care off to get our dad back to the Netherlands. Again, they did not care and told us there is nothing they could do. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM ROME AIRPORT AND CATANIA SICILY... Rome Airport: On one side, our car had two different tires. "In Italy it is illegal for there to be two different tires on one side of the car." So, they illegally rented us the car and then tried to charge us for them having to change the tire. Sicily: We returned the car and signed off without incident. A week later, we received an email stating that they found "damage" to the car that had been missed during the inspection when we returned it. In their email, they didn't provide any evidence or an itemized list. They charged $875 to the credit card we had on file with them. AND WE HAD PURCHASED 100% INSURANCE. So, they shouldn't have charged us anything even if there was damage. We are disputing the charge now through our credit card company. read more

This is, by far, the worst rental experience I've had in my life. I booked a rental for two days with a 1pm pick up on Thursday and a 1pm return on a Saturday. Upon pick-up, I asked the rental agent what I should do with the keys when returning the car to the Ravenna branch since that office closed at 12pm. She told me to simply leave the keys inside the box, which I did. Two days later, an additional charge of approximately $121 popped up on my credit card from Locauto. They told me that because the Ravenna branch closed at 12pm, and they didn't get the keys back until Monday morning I had to be charged two additional days according to their policy. I showed them photographic evidence of their car parked in front of their office that proved the car had been returned within the allotted time, but they insisted on charging me for an additional two days. Their customer service was awful to deal with and they basically told me, "too bad--we are following our policy." This was especially frustrating because I specifically asked their employee what their policy and did exactly as instructed. read more

I'd like to share with you our experience with Locauto. The Pisa Airport personnel were wonderful. They quickly got us into the car we'd reserved and were delightful. We paid about 400Euro more to have the "no worries" full coverage with roadside assistance. Once we left, it took a while for the air conditioning to cool the vehicle, but we didn't think much of it. Until the next day, when the car's air conditioning stopped working. And wouldn't restart. It would work in the morning, when the car was cool, but then, once the car became hot in the sun or while driving, it would stop working. The electronic screen would also freeze when the AC stopped working. And then the tires kept losing air. I feel like this is a significant problem with the vehicle. We called Roadside Assistance multiple times over the next few days. When we called and held, and finally got through to a person in Roadside Assistance, they would hang up on us. Multiple times. Then our lodging host called in Italian and got through to someone who recorded the issue we were having but said they couldn't do anything because it was just the AC. We were on vacation. In the heat of summer with no AC in a car we paid 400 Euro extra for so we could have "no worries"... and that's ALL we had with this car. It significantly affected our vacation experience, and the customer service - or lack thereof - is extremely disheartening. This could have been an electrical issue that could have caused an electrical fire. When dropping off the car at the Florence Airport, the Locauto office was locked and the person inside gestured toward the drop key box and refused to assist us. We tracked down Locauto staff in the parking lot and shared our concerns and issues and they said they'd take note of it and send a notice to customer service. That was a week ago, and there has been zero reach-out from customer service. Because of this experience, we highly discourage people from booking with Locauto/Enterprise. read more

Prepaid through rental cars.com Do not use them! They got us Locauto rental car at Rome airport. Representatives do not speak good English, you do not get a written contract with everything spelled out and we had full coverage. Car transmission broke down second day of our trip and we could not get anyone to help And after spending our entire day our apartment rental agency got someone to tow our car. And to top it off they would not bring another car. We had to spend another entire day going to Florence by train to get a car. We lost 4 days if our trip and spent an additional 100 euros on taxis and trains. Their response was we are sorry and will not charge you for the tow but cannot reimburse you for any losses. They are crooks and try everything they can do to take more money from you. They claimed I scratched the car, but I did not, and the scratch was about the width of it, pencil line and only a few inches long. They are threatening to charge the same card on file for the amount of €435 for a scratch that I wasn't responsible for. read more

Seems this people are opportunistic and exploiter at the moment they had your personal and credit card information. I made a reservation using Emerald membership of National Car Rental, traveling several countries in Europe but this case Bologna Airport. After leave the airport, notice that fuel thank was 7/8 and call following day to make the claim, offices were closed, send an email with a photo of panel (1/8 digital bars), so they can see and compare with mileage, no more than 15 miles run. Same day drive around 45 miles and the fuel level went to 6/8 of thank, delivered the car 6:15am on Monday, rental office at the airport was close, too early, drop the keys. Send another email making the claim and explaining that returned the car with 7/8 as I have received. When they send the invoice I was chargped more than €68 in refuel, service and other matters like penalties. Called to LOCAUTO office was attended by customer service representive, and she explained me that they cand do any refund because the contract was closed Yesterday I sent a claim related with gas overcharge, now I receive an invoice informing that they are charging to my credit card €270 related with insurance fees according to a communication they send to me. Never I have requested for insurance coverage as I have my personal one. Hope Emerald National Car Rental help me with the refunds, will update this review read more

DO NOT USE. We travel to Europe every year. We have used Enterprise Car rental the past without any problems. This year 2022 we again used Enterprise to rent in Italy. What we got when we went to receive the car was LOCAUTO. This is an Italian rental company that had we known we would not use. They gave us a lesser car than the rental agreement reservation but charged us the same price. They have billed us for damages after we returned home. Enterprise will not give any assistance as they turn over all responsibility to Locauto. Absolutely the worst experience and if we had known who were going to be renting from we would have read the reviews and chose another company months before our trip. read more

Better don't make a deal with this company! Hidden payments and fake damages is their way of business! In my case it looked like following. At their desk in Malpensa airport they included in Contract (I had a prepayed booking) without asking me some Roadside Plus service payment of 20 Euro. When I noticed this fact (after returning) and wrote about it to "customer service" of Locauto they just replied that it was me who have requsted for this service. In addition on the returning a stuff-girl "found" a "damage" on the car during inspection: "light strech" on the plastic rim. Actually it was not stretch but only just invisiable mark that occured because of using in Breul-Cervinia snow chains provided by Locauto(!). There was of course no answer from stuff-girl and than from "customer service" to the question how it could be possible to use metal chains on plastic rims without any marks. They just qualify it as "strech" and demanded I should pay 120 Euro (!) for this "damage". When I refused they decrease the amount to 40 Euro as a "commercial gesture" and when I refused to pay again they charged my credit card that was provided by me at the desk. Be sure that making deal with Locauto you will face with variety attemps to provoke you fraudely for actions which let them to get additional money from you. If you don't want to waste time and money keep away from these people! Also keep in mind that some famous international brands like National, Enterprise and Alamo (I booked via Alamo) are represented in Italy by this dubios company: Locauto (locautorent.it). read more

SCAM ALERT!!! They will charge you for non -existent damages once you return the vehicle. I got charged 150 euros for an alleged scratch at the front tire. Yes folks! at the tire! Also, if you decline to buy their collision damage insurance, they will charge you a "collision damage waiver." They won't tell you that. However, you will see it in your final itemized invoice, which they don't provide until the end of the rental period, among with other hidden charges. The whole thing is very well orchestrated to rip you off the more they can. If you try to dispute it, they will threat you to charge you even more with penalties if you don't pay right away. read more

Avoid Locauto rental company ! I rent a Golf in Olbia Airport, Sardinia in June 2021. I had a flat tyred, as it happend often in this region. First the management of this incident Locauto through Euroassistant was awful but that's not the issue here. The problem is despite the fact that Locauto staff told me I will not be charged at all, also because I took the maximul level of insurance, I was invoiced of 143€ few weeks after with very poor explanation. For your information, the tug only came the next day of the incident and it was a nightmare to make that happend since nobody speak english on the emergency line and the tyre was not changed but I had to come back to Olbia airport by my own mean to get a new car... I had the premium insurance, I followed the all process and was informed by the staff that I will not pay anything but I was debit 143€ few weeks after despite my dispute. read more
At first it seemed very good. The woman who gave us the car at Linate Airport was super friendly and made sure that even the smallest scratch on the car was noted before we took off. But we said we were going to the Alps and still they gave us a car with summer tires and didn't bother to add snow chains in the trunk. Ok, I know, you should always think for yourself and if I would have just asked for snow chains or double checked that the car had winter tires (note; this is in Northern Italy, first week of February - very much "winter" - so I thought it was obvious) it might have been a different situation. Now we got stuck in our Alpine village because of the snow, had to buy snow chains for EUR140 and almost missed our plane. Our hotel claimed that it's Italian law to have winter tires for all car rental firms. Still don't know if that's the case but the staff at Linate did nothing to help us when we called them about the problem. (Plus, we didn't take the smallest cheapest car so one could have hoped for some kind of standard.) Would not recommend this company unless it's summer. read more

I had a great experience with Locauto, rented a Mercedes GLA200d from Venice airport, great car ! rented from Aug 4, 2019 to Aug 17, 2019. Beside this is the only company in Italy that will let you take the car to eastern Europe, they were very friendly, on return, I had a scratch on the car but as agreed it was shorter than 5cm so I didn't have to pay anything. Car was clean and in very good condition ! I will confidently recommend this company to a friend and will probably be looking for them again in the future. Despite the other bad reviews, my experience was great, I would give them 10 out of 10 ! Best Regards, Felix read more

When we arrived the agency insisted that we remove the car regardless of when we needed it from their parking deck causing us to incur extra fees for parking in Venice. When we went to get the car they gave us the wrong vehicle to match the keys. Once we received the keys we were given a VW that was missing a wiper blade and I pointed this out to the agent who said it wasn't supposed to rain. Naturally we got caught in a downpour with one wiper. When we returned the car in the exact same condition, I pointed out to the return agent that it was missing a blade and he noted it and said no problem. When we got back to America we received an email bill for 120 Euros to replace the blade we had already pointed out was missing. This is the worst experience I have had running a car in 20 years. I have rented cars frequently all over the world. Typically I have been by myself, but this time I was with my wife and four kids overseas in Italy. I informed the rental car company that we were arriving 12 hours delayed. When I got to the counter they said they had no more cars left and I had given away our car. Furthermore, they charged us for the car. They have refused to refund this charge saying that there is a no-show fee that just happens to be out the full amount. I have Disputed this fee with my credit card company of course. Rent at your own risk! read more

The worst far away rental company I have never booked. This company is fraud!!!! They steal from me almost 200 euro for 30 minutes delay and for some fuel which missing (by them). Unacceptable charge without any warning. Just one day after return the car I saw this charge on my card. I left from the parking 19.15 and I return 3 days later 19.45. For this 30 minutes they charged me 1 full day becuase according to them time starting from the point which they start make the documents. But after this I spent 30 minutes until to complete all the prosedure, this is doesn't count? Also I took the car with the fuel line on the top line and I return it on the same lever EXACTLY. According to them on the beginning was totally full but on the end missing 8 liters. For this they charged me except the fuel +50 euro for reffiling service. This is ridiculous!!!! First time I am facing this behavior from a rental company. Never before have a kind of these minor issues. These people checked everything just to take some more money from their customers. Also they are liers a lot and the customer service just repeating what on the office said. No information about this charges verbal or written. I passed 3 times, call several times, sent e-mails in order to give me my aggrement, the excuss was that they are always busy!!!! Stay far away from this company!!!!!! read more

I should have read the reviews before renting a car from Locauto. It seems to be the cheapest rental car company, but it becomes way more expensive after you return the car. They simply charged 250 euros saying that there was a flat tire, which is not true. I requested the customer service to send me pictures of the damage and they sent me a picture of a good tire. I tried to submit again a complaint and the website was already blocked and I couldn't do it. Next time I will go back to Hertz, as I've never had any problem. Locauto never ever again! read more

Do Not rent from Locauto. Also be aware because we originally booked through Alamo but was contracted through Locauto. They pointed out damage on the car but did not full mark in the notes. When dropping off the car, They wanted to charge us for damages that were already there. Its been a month, and the only communication we have with Locauto is through a Do-not reply email. This was a terrible experience. We had to cancel our credit card so they would charge us. read more

I recently had a highly disappointing experience with LOCAUTO, which is deceptively operating under the guise of ENTERPRISE. This company is engaging in unethical practices and scamming customers by repeatedly charging for pre-existing scratches on their vehicles. Upon renting a car from LOCAUTO , I meticulously checked the vehicle for any damages and noted several minor scratches. However, despite my vigilance and thorough documentation, the company accused me of causing these damages upon return. It quickly became clear that this is a recurring scam they pull on unsuspecting customers. LOCAUTO Company is hiding behind the reputable name of ENTERPRISE, which makes their deceit even more reprehensible. They exploit the trust customers have in ENTERPRISE, only to hit them with unwarranted damage charges. This dishonest practice not only tarnishes their reputation but also casts a shadow on ENTERPRISE. I urge everyone to be extremely cautious when renting from this company. Always take detailed photos and videos of the vehicle before and after your rental period, and insist on having any existing damages documented in writing. Better yet, avoid this company altogether and choose a more transparent and trustworthy rental service. In conclusion, LOCAUTO is an absolute scam artist, preying on innocent customers by falsely charging for existing scratches on their cars. They deserve no business and should be held accountable for their fraudulent activities. Save yourself the headache and steer clear of LOCAUTO Company. read more

Absolutely the Worst Rental Experience - Avoid LocAuto at All Costs Renting from LocAuto was one of the most frustrating and disappointing travel experiences I've ever had. Despite returning the vehicle in the same condition I received it, I was later hit with an outrageous damage claim for a "seriously dented roof"--damage that was never visible, never discussed, and not even possible for me to inspect due to the height of the vehicle and lack of any return walk-through. There were no timestamped photos provided and the vehicle diagram they used was for a sedan, not the 9-passenger van I rented, leading to confusion about the actual damage location. To make matters worse, their own documentation referenced the rear trunk, not the roof. I pointed this out, along with multiple inconsistencies in their paperwork, but was met with cold, generic replies and zero accountability. Even damage previously noted on the vehicle was misrepresented as new. Their process is opaque, one-sided, and sets customers up to take the fall for issues they cannot verify or defend against--especially if you return the car after hours and use their key drop. I ended up paying a fine just to end the stress and threats of debt collection, even though I strongly disagreed with the claim. It felt like a blatant attempt to squeeze money out of customers post-rental using vague documentation and rigid policies. Never again. I strongly warn anyone considering LocAuto: choose a more reputable, transparent, and customer-oriented rental company. read more

I was refused to get a car from Locauto, Malpensa Airport, because my daughter, as driver, was short on reserve on her credit card. The company hold the huge amount of Euro 1.250 as security for damages or any other fantacies. Other daughter was refused, despite enough reserve on her card, and a valid drivers license. Tried to start from scratch with (other) daughter, but refused. Gave up after two and a half hour, and catched a train to Desenzano. Cartrawler, who is the resposible, surprisingly paid me back half my money. In this way, my loss is about 170 Euro. I now see that there was a great risk loosing the whole deposit of 1.250 Euro. Locauto's policy seems to be to grab as much as possible from the deposit, making up some excuses. This I found out from yelp, Facebook and googling. So I am really happy that we got no car - and limited my loss to 170 Euro. I have never seen a company getting so many harsh evaluations as Locauto AVOID THE COMPANY LOCAUTO. read more

Stay away from LOCAUTO car rental Company. They have lots of tricks. I have rented an economy car from Locauto two weeks ago. I picked up the car on time and return it back on time. Just 1- 2 km before I returned the car at Rome Fiumicino airport. I fulled the gas tank and received an invoice. Then I drove 1- 2 km to the car rental office. Sometimes, the pointer of the gas tank on the front panel reacts slowly. The pointer did not showed 'FULL' at the time of return. I told the boy working for Locauto that I had the receipt. He was insensible and rude. He did not accepted the receipt and told met hat I have to pay a fine. As I had two more hours of time, I drove back to the gas station. The man working at the gas station opened the hood of the car, disconnect the cable of the car battery and then reconnect the cable. The pointer began to reacted correctly. He told met hat this is a TRICK that some car rental companies do. read more

They gave me an older car with all sorts of little scrapes especially around the tires. i was in a rush with 2 small children so didnt think much since it was clearly stated in the check out report. Halfway through the trip, the maintenance required light came on. we managed to get back to the airport but were startled when attendant charged us 230 euro for tire damage. She then threatened to add more fees if i didnt acknowledge her report. I agreed with wear on tires since it was similar to checkout but didnt agree with charges at all. Unfortunately, it 's really hard to have a conversation in a foreign language in a dirty congested parking garage with 2 kids under 3 yrs. I'm trying to dispute with locauto, booking.com, and credit card so we'll see where this ends up. I now look at reviews and see a lot of similar stories:( read more

I had an excellent experience with Locauto Car Rental. From the moment I walked in, the staff was polite and welcoming. The establishment was clean, well-organized, and professional. Marco was incredibly patient, walking me through all the necessary documents and insurance options. As a traveler from the U.S. renting a car in Italy for the first time, this level of support was truly reassuring. Locauto offered a variety of rental options, and my car was spotless and fully fueled for my trip. When I returned the vehicle, both Marco and another team member provided quick and efficient service. They even helped call a cab for me while I charged my phone--a thoughtful gesture that made my experience even better. I can't recommend Locauto enough! I will definitely be renting from them again when I'm back in Sicily. read more

These people are crooks and bandits. We just paid over $370 in damages ($90 was a "management fee" because we refused to pay on site. We rented a car for twelve days and when we returned it, their agent got down on her hands and knees to find a scratch that would easily have been removed with some Armourall, on the plastic bumper guard. If I could post the pictures they would tell the entire story as to the lengths these crooks go through to stiff you with charges equal to 50% of the entire lease fee. The grand irony...we booked this through Expedia and they indicated that Alamo was to be our provider...instead, we got Robin Hood and his merry gang of thefts. Never, never rent from this company, you will be very, very sorry if you do. read more

DO NOT RENT from Locauto Rent or Enterprise when in Italy. They are thieves and scam artists. I read many different reviews about Locauto Rent fraudulently charging for many things. So I did not rent from them due to this. I went through Enterprise to be safe and Lo and Behold they sent me to pick up my car from Locauto Rent in Rome and I got charged an extra $300 in damages. There is no way to dispute this and Enterpise would not help out at all. Nobody would show me this "damage" they said that occurred and we took pics before and after of the car. There was no damage whatsoever and there was no way to get my money back since they had my card already charged. DO NOT rent from either of these places! Be warned!! read more

Extremely bad experience with this company! NEVER rent a car from Locauto! I did the mistake not to read the contract before renting my car during my holidays in Italy. I drove very carefully during all my trip but they claimed there is a new scratch on the car (not noticed at the check-in). After signing the inventory they told me they will charge me 429 e (including 81 euros of "administrative fees") for this!! Assuming I am responsible I want to make clear that the repairs of this certainly not worth this price. I tried to complain but nothing to do, they just told me they agreed it was unfair practices but that is was the company policy. LOCAUTO IS A COMPLETE SWINDLE BE CAREFUL!!! read more

Fazit: HALT LIEBER DIE FINGER WEG DAVON! read more

I was really disappointed by my experience with Locauto. I prepaid for a 4-day rental, trusting the positive reviews. But when my Volotea flight was suddenly cancelled due to technical issues, I had no way to pick up the car on time. I called the same day, explained everything, and asked if I could collect the car the next day or get a refund. They flatly refused, hiding behind their policy--even though the situation was completely out of my control. In the end, they kept all my money and rented the car to someone else. It felt deeply unfair and unacceptable. read more

Never ever rent a car here!! I rented a car with full insurance, however, they still wanted the full €1300 deposit (normally the deposit goed down when you get fll insurance). My creditcard allowed a €1200 deposit. They refused to take the other €100 from another card, cash or debitcard. They refused to change the name in the booking so that it could go on another creditcard. We ended up not getting the car(!!!!), and not getting back the money we had paid for renting it, and on top of it all, were yelled! Most horrible car rental experience ever!!!! read more

We rented a car from Locauto at Catania airport in May 2024. I must admit I was very scared to do this after reading the reviews on this website, and promised myself to write a positive review if everything went smoothly - and it did! The pick-up and drop-off process was seamless, there were no hidden or late charges (which was a relief after the comments I read), and the team was highly professional and helpful. I booked through Booking.com, and the process was straightforward. Based on my experience I would recommend it! read more

It seemed everything was ok, until after a few months. First they charged for more 1 day (around 100€, since it's the standard price) because we arrived 1 hour later, but nobody said nothing when we returned the vehicle... Then they started to charge almost 50€ for what was supposed to be traffic fines, which I never had none during the stay in Italy, neither received at home any. Had to cancel the credit card so the scam can stop, it's unbelievable how unserious this company is! Don't use this company! read more

BEWARE... Do not rent a car off this company. If they have your credit card they'll start charging you unknown transactions when you return to your homeland. They are cheap for a reason because they make money from charging you $199 euro administration fees for fines I never received. read more
