Locauto Rental Cars in Milan Linate Airport provided my family of 6 the most damaged, beat up POS van for our Christmas holiday to the Alps When picking it up there was not a single part of the vehicle that was not scratched or dented. They left us with no choice but to take the vehicle and said there was no large vehicles they could substitute for us. The large side door that I was expected to get my family in and out of the vehicle through was so damaged the door would not close properly and would open while we were driving. It was nearly impossible to close without slamming the door 3, 4 or 5 times in order to get it closed completely. The vehicle was a diesel and we had the DEF fluid warning lights come on about 25Km into our drive. The check engine lights came on and off throughout our 1200KM drive to and from the mountains. When we returned the vehicle and asked for a $200-300 reduction in the $200 / day rental we were scoffed at. Further written complaints to the company were treated with the same distain. The staff was wonderful to us (we went through Enterprise). They gave us useful information (I had messed up the reservation on my part) and there was no wait to get a car when I straightened out my documents/reservation. I want to shout out Salvatore, Marco, and another lovely employee (I cannot remember her name, but she was also a great help)! They were polite and genuinely kind! The car they gave us was stylish, new, very clean, and was an incredibly comfortable drive. However, it was way too big for Sicilian streets. I am glad we got protections, because we had a few near misses. We might've been paying a lot more had it not been for the coverage. A couple of recommendations 1. Book a small car, preferably an economy car-Sicilian streets are narrow and hectic. It's hard to parallel park with a compact SUV. The spaces in most areas are suitable for an economy car. 2. Bring additional documents JUST IN CASE. I would recommend your passport as a backup. They needed another form of ID in addition to my Driver's License that I didn't have with me at rental, so I needed to go back to the apartment and retrieve it. It's just best to have it handy. I also think they only accept major credit cards for out of country travelers, so keep that in mind. 3. Ask an employee to help with the car return. It was a bit confusing since all the rental car agencies are grouped under Locauto and you do have to park specifically in the lot area of the company you rented with. It's just best to ask someone exactly where to take the car and save yourself driving around the garage trying to figure out exactly where to go. 4. Protections-having the protection saved us, so we are glad we had them added. I'm not sure about the fine print that the other reviews are mentioning, because at least for us and the damage we incurred, the protection covered us. Besides the size of the car and the difficulty to maneuver through narrow spaces, the overall experience in it was pretty good! DO NOT RENT FROM THESE GUYS! Our car broke down in a very rural area an hour outside of CTA the very first day of our rental. Locauto towed the car but would not send us a replacement. It cost us 130E to get back to the airport. They weren't willing to do anything for us, no refund for the valet service back to the airport, though they had no problem charging my credit card for the 1 successful hour that we had the rental car. read more

I had a very bad experience after renting from this company. I rented a Scoda Octavia for 5 days to travel around Sicily. When I returned the car, I had broken a rear light and scratched the rear bumper. I thought the damage would not be considered too serious. At the end of the day, it was a scratch by touching the car behind while parking on a tight space, and after research I found out that a new light replacement costs 80 euros. To my surprise, when I returned the car I was asked by the guy that checked the car to pay 825 euros for the damage. The scratch was reported as a "severe dent" and the light would cost 325 to replace! I complained, and tried to explain that I was being overcharged. Another inspector came by to support his colleague and complimented me with a "vaffanculo", in front of my wife and 2.5 years old son - I didn't forget to return back more generously. I denied to pay on the spot in order to apply for legal support, or discuss a more fair settlement with the company. Free legal support that I was seeking proved to be ineffective, and the car rental appeared to be too stubborn to negotiate. So after a few days I decided to give in and pay the whole amount in order to close the case. The lesson I learned from this story is to only rent from the big guys, and make sure you buy an insurance too. read more

This review is for Enterprise which is run by the Locauto folks here at the Catania Airport. The kiosk is downstairs with the food court so be prepared for chaos, loud noises and no apparent order. Enterprise and Hertz are both at this Locauto kiosk so the same employees run them all. There is a number dispenser with the idea that customers would pick a number and wait to be called but with all the different tourists and nationalities, there is little order. Some customers didn't know to pick a ticket or could even understand when their number was called. Be prepared to wait a good 20-30 minutes to get to the counter. *Tip: If you are an Enterprise member, you can bypass the line. They will write your name on a tiny board on the counter which means you have front of the line privileges. *If you are from the U.S, make sure that you are prepared with your reservation, passport and International Drivers Permit. *The employees can speak a small amount of english to explain the prices, just make sure that you understand your reservation and what you are agreeing to. *The price we paid was a bit high, but we got an automatic with unlimited miles and paid for the option not to have to fill the tank upon return with all the insurance for 600 U.S $. It was steeper than I wanted to pay, but I did not want to have to worry about any potential damage or hidden fees at the end. *If you plan on driving a lot on the island, a smaller sized car is better for the winding roads and the high cost of petrol. *After all the paperwork is done, exit the airport and go across the little street. Walk past the cafe a ways to a multi level parking garage where all the cars are kept. There is a little building where an attendant is and then you walk towards the sign that say Locauto where someone that can speak a decent amount of english is waiting. The attendant gave us a quick overview of the car and set up the navigation. *The car itself was in good shape but smelled of smoke. Just not something I am used to coming from the states as you are not allowed to smoke in rental cars. *The return was surprisingly easy, follow Google Maps to the Airport Car rental returns then follow the signs. An attendant was waiting in the garage and did a quick quality check of the car. Since we got all the insurance, it was fairly easy. They email you the receipt and you are on your way. read more

Beware of Locauto rent in italy. It offers cheap prices (60 euros for a week) but in reality it is the beginning of a nightmare.We rented a car for 1 week to visit the wonderful Sicily. We took possession of the car at catania airport. And we did the pre-departure check; Damage, fuel level, bodywork, Everything is noted then it is a departure. Note that we took a video while of verification he car before and after the handing over. At the handover, we went around the vehicle; Petrol, bodywork and damage. The worker from LOCAUTO told us that the car had a perfect condition. GOOD! It is the time of the return then we go back to Canada. 2 days later, on returning to Canada, I received a notification from my bank, telling me that LOCAUTO charges me 380 euros on my credit card for damage and administration fees. I call the customer service number and I am referred to the complaints department, no response... I also write by e-mail to customer service and my bank to know my rights. We signed the form and made a video of the guy from locauto who said that the condition of the car is perfect. 3 days later other invoices arrive, total 600 euros !! My friends and I were stranded as we got a flat tire and even with our deluxe insurance package, we got completely screwed over as Locauto refused to bring us another car or help us to get to the airport that was over a hour drive away! We almost missed our international flight because of the lack of support they showed us. They even charged us for the last day that we did not use it on AND refueling when we didn't even get to return the car. They simply came and towed the car away without any compassion. The man we spoke with that was on call for after operating hours was incredibly rude and was yelling at us. We had to get a cab to take us which cost us over $400 dollars alone because we didn't have a choice. We tried to resolve this with Locauto but they refused to work with us. DO NOT USE THEM OR SUPPORT THEM, they will cheat you and not give a damn about you. read more

Terrible, terrible, terrible experience. Can't state that enough. Please do yourself a favor and consider dealing with another rental agency. Warning, this post will be long and dark and full of sordid details. Found a good deal online and decided to rent the car for our week-long Sicilian vacation with Locauto. Car pickup went well, but customer service is not their strong suit. Also asked us for a security deposit of 900 euro on the card which is a lot. Showed us in details all the scratches on the car. Then off we were! During our trip we had to call assistance at one point and already we should have had a foreshadowing of things to come. Road assistance kept on telling us to check with the rental location company and the rental company kept on telling us to deal with the road assistance. The car was not moving and the rental company told us to wait for assistance, then take a cab to Catania (we were in Syracusa at this point which is one hour away from Catania) to get a new car at the airport. The said that they couldn't tell us the cost of the repairs - we had to wait for an assessment from road assistance. Luckily, the car started again but what a horrible way to treat paying customers. Then, when we returned the car, the inspection began. The guy was inspecting the car as if we had gone through war with it. We took a phone video of the whole thing to back ourselves up. The guy stated : "the car is perfect" and made us sign papers accordingly. Today, 5 days after returning the car, we see a charge on the credit card for damages made to the car. When we call the company to ask what are these "alleged" damages, they refuse to tell us! Legally, a car company has to tell you in details what the damages are before charging your car. Needless to say, we will be contesting this charge and fighting the company for this dishonest behaviour. What a shame and a horrible way to treat paying customers. Never again. read more

I didn't have a terrible experience but let me warn you. Luckily, my rental was prepaid before I left the US. The booth is located in the food court downstairs. They stated they needed to hold a $1300 deposit on my credit card in case of damages. They do a good job on keeping track of damage electronically during check-in however the detective work during check out is thoroughly completed like the polizia. Minimum 3 times looking around and inside the car for flaws. Please do yourself a favor and check the tires. My front tires barely had any tread and after driving off the lot, I received a warning signal that the car would soon be due for an oil change on several hundred kilometers. Two days into my rental period, I started smelling smoke and checked my oil, it was nearly black! So I took it in and exchanged for a new vehicle. No apologies no discounts! Will not use again. I've taken photos of damage, gas tank gauge in case they try to rape my credit card with outstanding charges. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! Furthermore, if you rent from a legitimate company, check to make sure they do not subcontract the rental to Locauto. I rented from a reputable American firm because I was concerned about the reputation of local firms, even thought the price was considerably higher than the locals. Unfortunately, I did not check whether the American firm actually had their own agents in Sicily. I returned the car after a week rental before the opening time at the Catania airport, undamaged and with photos to prove it. A month later I got a bill for 500 euros in unspecified damages, and Locauto refused to provide evidence of the damages they claimed. So I rejected the charge on my Visa and they ignored the opportunity by Visa to respond, so they did not get paid. Instead they turned the bill over to a collection agency, added more fees, and I was being hounded by their lawyers. Since I travel frequently to Silicy, I did want to risk being arrested for their bogus debt, so I appealed to the American firm to work it out. Locauto refused to work with them as well, and fortunately, I had a complete set of photos of the car as I left it. In the end the American company decided to pay the bill, but that may have been because my employer has a contract with them that undoubtedly provides them with a lot of business. I would definitely not want to be on my own going against Locauto, and it appears from their reviews that this is their standard operating procedure. In the future, I will only rent from top-tier firms that operate their own offices. It is just not worth the hassle and it will probably cost you more. These guys are crooks. read more
