My stay at Villa Sermolli was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment I checked in, it was clear that the hotel had little to no concern for its guests' comfort. The receptionist, who exhibited a complete lack of empathy, assigned us a room right above their noisy restaurant and next to a garden where a raucous wedding party was in full swing. In that so-called "peaceful" room, it felt like I had a front-row seat to every meal in the restaurant. The clinking of cutlery, the chatter of diners, and the clatter of dishes were as if they were happening right around my bed. And don't even get me started on the garden, which was a cacophony of noise that echoed through our room, making it impossible to sleep. I tried to address this issue with the receptionist not once, but twice, and her response was utterly unhelpful. She simply shrugged and claimed there was nothing she could do. I reminded her that the very reason I chose this countryside retreat was to escape the noise and enjoy a peaceful night's sleep. It was a promise the hotel failed to deliver on. As if that weren't enough, the hotel's parking situation was a disaster. They boasted about having parking, but in reality, there was none to be found. I had to park my car a quarter of a mile away, which was beyond frustrating and a significant inconvenience. In sum, my experience at Villa Sermolli was a complete disaster. If there were a rating that went into negative territory, they would earn a resounding negative 5. I strongly advise anyone considering staying here to save their money and find accommodations that actually prioritize their guests' comfort and well-being. Villa Sermolli is a place to avoid at all costs.

The rooms are comfortable and the bathroom in our room was recently remodeled and upgraded. Breakfast was a very nice selection of typical European breads, cold cuts, fruit, yogurt and eggs. The staff is truly outstanding. They went out of their was to be accommodating and all were very friendly. Our original room was across from the plaza and there was a band playing for a party late, they immediately moved us to an inside room, no questions. Breakfast staff likewise was very helpful. Only reason the hotel didn't get 5 stars is you could feel the faded elegance, like it was once a destination for the upper crust that was now more middle class. Did nothing to detract from the comfort, value, or the staff, just something to be aware of if you are expecting a brand new hotel experience. If traveling to Tuscany and staying in Montecatini, I would stay again without hesitation. BTW, park in any of the blue street parking locations around the hotel and then get the parking pass from the hotel when you check in. The pass let's you park in those spots unlimited.

It's so funny that they still use the clunky physical key system attached to a large square block with the room number. On our last day we finally had a chance to use their refreshing outdoor pool. This place caters mostly to tour groups such as Gate 1, which my SO and I used. We didn't get a chance to use the train ourselves but apparently it's located near the Montecatini Centro stop. We stayed here as a central location for our day trips to Cinque Terre, Florence and Siena. The true rating for this place is 3.5/5 but I bumped it up to 4. The room was overall clean and a decent size. It had a table and huge bureaus, but a very tiny safe. We were not able to fit all of our electronics in there as with the other locations. Yet again we got the dreaded twin beds pushed together. We should have complained and had them put the queen sheets on them to mask their true identity. They're stingy with the towel: only 2 bath towels and extremely thin paper-like hand towels. I also attempted to use the hair dryer but instantly gave up noting that it would take forever. There are two nightstands but since one doubles as the minibar, only one has drawers. The complimentary WiFi was quite slow and required e-mail confirmation. During our free time we walked around the town from the hotel and it was only a few minutes away from the town center. We also took a quick stroll through the park at night, which I'm sure would have looked much better during the day. I will note that we had 2 meals with the Tour group here on our first and last night and the food on the last night was very delicious! We all loved the white wine more than the red one and the servers were not especially prompt. However, the swordfish dish just melted in the mouth! I like how they gave us the option to choose between 2 for several courses. The veal on the other hand was a bit chewy. Usually my SO and I would order both and share. On our first night we noticed that the Fridge in the room was not working at all. We had some medicine we needed to keep cool and we called down to the front desk. They mentioned that the fridge expert would not be available until 11 PM, which was a bit annoying since we had an early morning. He actually arrived not long after we hung up the phone thankfully. Unfortunately they could not fix the dead fridge and they were planning to swap it out with one from another room the next day. The guest services was courteous enough to store the medicine securely in the fridge in the bar downstairs for us. The next day while we were gone they swapped out the fridges but they forgot to put the medicine in it as he had promised. Oh well.

But the next day, after coming back from an excursion, I found around 20-30 dead honeybees in my hotel room. I have a severe bee allergy and carry an EpiPen because of the risk of anaphylaxis. I immediately went to the front desk in tears asking for management, only to be told no manager was on site. While I was there, another Gate 1 tour manager witnessed the situation. My room was changed, and the rest of the evening was fine. On 05/20/26, during another excursion, I ran into the same tour manager who had been there during the first incident. She told me that hotel staff had actually found a hive outside my window. Even though she called them wasps, I knew they were honeybees. Then, on 05/21/26, after returning from an excursion in Florence, I found several dead bees and multiple live bees inside my new room. Once again, I went to the front desk asking for management, and once again I was told no manager was available. A staff member came with me to the room to check things out. He saw the bees and kept taking photos and videos but didn't actually do anything about them. I begged him to kill the live bees in the bathroom, but he didn't. I went back to the front desk and insisted the situation be escalated, explaining again that a bee sting could cause anaphylaxis and potentially kill me. At that point, my Gate 1 tour manager was contacted. I don't know exactly what was said, but my tour manager and the bartender, Roberto, came to the room, killed the live bees, and tried to figure out where they were getting in. They found what looked like another hive outside the window, sprayed the area, and really did their best to make me feel safe. The hotel staff offered to move me again, but by then it was obvious this wasn't just one bad room -- it seemed like a bigger hotel issue. My Gate 1 tour guide explained that they tried to find another hotel, but everything nearby was booked and any available option would have been a downgrade. Since I was leaving in about 12 hours anyway, I reluctantly agreed to stay for the night. What upset me most throughout this whole experience was the complete lack of urgency around what could have been a life-threatening situation.
