Local Folk is well named and well populated with said folk. It's tucked into a cute little corner of Kensington, with established trees and a big verandah providing shade for the outdoor seating. I love the breezy open vibe.
Perhaps I was thirsty but I smashed my coffee down super quick.
Service is casual and friendly, however a small thing I noticed was my pepper grinder has run out of pepper so could be more attentive.
I ordered the Beno (Poached free range eggs, avo smash, pork belly, potato hash, hollandaise, bacon dust), which was beautifully presented - colourful and brimming with different textures. Pork belly however was a bit chewy, and the eggs were poached inconsistently (one being over cooked whereas the other perfectly oozed out when I cut it). Potato hash was great - crispy with a soft potato inside, also liked that the greenery (water cress and micro herbs) added a level of freshness to offset the richness of the hollandaise and the meat.
The bacon "dust" was an interesting idea which I enjoyed and hadn't seen before. Note. Make sure you spread out the entire dish before eating it - I got 3/4 of the way through when I realised there was a whole bunch of smashed avo hiding under the pork.
In summary if I lived nearby I would frequent this place but not worth trekking across town for.
Music - a solo speaker provided indie rock tunes (which I am a sucker for - actually some really good tunes were getting played), making it easy to talk and aided the chilled vibe.
