I'd been working with a Vanguard advisor since 2013, but they do recommend you also check with a CPA to determine how to best plan for tax efficiency year after year. I went to the appointment, was kept waiting a bit (no big deal) and once I was in the office this person (Tatyana) looked at my paperwork and started in on me with a very hard sell to get out of the market and let her manage my retirement. I said, "I just want some advice on managing my tax exposure on an annual basis". She said, "I have all of my clients out of the market" she showed me a chart of market trends since 1928 forward..."the market has risen ***% since blah blah blah. How long do you think that will go on????" You are not safe in the market, now. (Well, I've been through the 1999 crash, and fortunately was smart enough to balance my investments before the 2008 "great recession") Tatiyana's pronouncements are scare tactics to doubt what you know and your own investing knowledge and skills. She was not pleasant and was extremely arrogant. She told me to think about it, and come back in a week. I did not go back. Don't go unless you are a lamb wanting to be sheared/fleeced.

We have complicated returns (W2s, 1099s, and many freelance gigs) and he made the process incredibly easy, especially so because we are based in NYC and he is in Maryland. In addition, we are buying an apartment and needed letters from our tax preparer quickly. After requesting them, I had them in 20 minutes from Ayo (and at an after-hours time). Please, please, please never use this place. The reviews are all true. I thought: "How bad you they…read morebe?" And the answer was, exactly that. My tax pro was supposed to be specialized in the area that I needed help in. But he made an error on my tax return. My dad told him that the information he was giving didn't sound right, but the man was sure. An hour later, we checked and the tax pro gave me faulty information. And I had to go back to them and get the documents fixed. It has taken over a week and dooooozens of calls to get it fixed and I'm still not done. Such a headache. Additionally, warning: if you have a documents drawn up with a phone appointment (as I had to do after the first guy made an error on my documents), then they will not let you see these documents on the online portal until you PAY and SIGN. Which seems really shifty. They will not upload the documents section for you to view in the portal and you can ONLY see them by signing FIRST and paying. Soooo sketch! I was told that if I wanted to verify these documents (drawn up over the phone) for errors before signing, I could make an appointment with the office and view them there on their screen. -_- Also, there is no IT support on their website if you need help. And if you want to call the store, no one ever answers. You get brought to a call center, wait forever, and get scheduled to speak to someone at the store. Omg So annoying! Edit: I just looked it up, and what's they're doing by not letting you see the tax return until after you pay and sign when you do you do your tax return over the phone IS illegal.
