LVA was once a good school, but my family's experience over time tells a different story. My son attended from 2020 to 2023, and unfortunately, he left underprepared for high school. There was little to no support or guidance from LVA to ensure a smooth transition to a traditional school environment. I was surprised to see a couple of highly positive reviews appear about a year after my son had left--reviews that appear to describe him directly. These accounts do not reflect our experience and seem inconsistent with the reality we observed. It raised concerns for me about how feedback and reviews might be represented or encouraged within the school community. It is more shocking given that the individuals concerned had nothing good to say about one another at the time. During our time at LVA, the quality of education and communication declined noticeably. What began with promise during the COVID period gradually shifted to disorganization, inconsistent teaching quality, and removal of key student resources, such as lunch and recess. I also encountered several situations where staff appeared underqualified or lacking appropriate classroom management, including questionable instructional choices that were not age-appropriate (R rated movies) More troubling were instances of unprofessional conduct and poor handling of disciplinary issues, which had lasting effects on my child's wellbeing. Several parents, myself included, raised these issues repeatedly before meaningful action was taken. To the school's credit, there were a few dedicated and talented teachers who genuinely cared about their students, and they deserve recognition. However, the broader environment was not consistently supportive or healthy, particularly in leadership and communication. In summary, while LVA may look appealing on the surface, our experience suggests that the substance does not always match the image. I encourage parents to seek out multiple perspectives and, most importantly, listen to their children's experiences before making a decision. read more

My child kid loves this school! The staff is warm and friendly and the small size makes the school feel so tight knit, there big kids know the little kids which creates a great sense of community. Recently they changed the music program (there was a dedicated music teacher) which was one of the reasons I loved about this school when we chose it. At times there was more homework for 1st grade than I think should have been assigned. Missing a day of school led to an overwhelming amount of makeup work on top of regular homework that was due within 2 days.. we found this super challenging during cold and flu season! But my child did excel with the small class size and advanced quickly in learning and is excited to attend every day. They do get about an hour of outdoor time which I felt was very important. Creativity is celebrated- one of the highlights was the winter recital- as a non-religious school it was a fun, bright celebration of dancing and song, with a voluntary talent show. They celebrate multicultural holidays that reflect the variety of students and teachers at the school. read more

This school has been the BEST for my dyslexic son!!! We struggled so much with the public school system and ended up transferring him to LVA the 2nd half of 4th grade. Their Slingerland program is outstanding! We have had wonderful, and patient, teachers over the last few years. When he arrived at LVA, he was broken down and hated school. Within a year his confidence and self-advocacy skills sky rocketed. He has never complained once about going to school in the 3 1/2 years he has attended LVA. My two children have been attending LVA for two years including two Summer Camps. We look forward to attending again for our third year! The staff and teachers truly care about the kids. There is an app to track updates, events, and grades so you're always in the loop. A pleasant surprise is seeing the kids in 5th/6th/7th/8th so helpful around the school including being kind to all the younger kids (my kids are 7 and 5 years old) - gives it a real sense of community. About a week ago, I went to pick up my kids early and they asked to stay at school! The fact that my kids enjoy LVA this much speaks volumes to how great the staff and teachers are. This school has been so great for my kid. While they have a regular education program, they also have a specialized language arts program (Slingerland) for struggling readers. It's made all the difference in the world for my kiddo. Warm, inclusive and supportive environment in which educators and staff focus on each child's specific learning style and needs. We've been particularly happy with the Slingerland Program which gives a multi-sensory approach to learning which is so important for our child's growth in reading and writing. We've had a great experience with 4 of our children at Livermore Valley Academy. For years we looked for a school that valued social-emotional development and quality education, and LVA has been amazing. At LVA students are evaluated and leveled so they can "meet the kids where they are." For example a 2nd grader can be in 5th grade math. Or a 7th grader can be in 6th grade reading. Wherever the kids are, they meet them there and build on their skills. The kids feel empowered and make so much progress each year. This is something that is not supported in any other public/private school we've seen. The class sizes are small, so no kid slips under the radar. Administration listens to feedback and is eager to make the best possible environment for the kids. They also offer a program called Slingerland for children with dyslexia. The Slingerland program is multi sensory and very effective for my child that is in that program. It's a great community at LVA and I would recommend to any family looking for a well rounded school for their child. There are many families that carpool from all over the Bay Area to LVA from Walnut Creek, Tracy, and in between, because this school is well worth it! read more

Worst school my child has ever attended. Happy to be leaving the school. Teachers leave very often and there's a horrible staff system. Have had many problems with the kids having weird or rude behavior. Teachers act very weird towards children. The staff does not know how to work the school and are very clueless and mindless. We have many kids here, some who have learning disabilities which have flourished, and others who are advanced who have been met at their level and made to enjoy advanced learning. My daughter has been attending Livermore Valley Academy since Pre-K and is now in first grade. We absolutely love the small class sizes, diversity, individual attention, and teaching methods. They have a variety of academic courses, even for the younger grades, like STEM, Spanish, PE, Math, and Science. Our daughter has consistently tested far above her grade level in Math and Reading, which we attribute to the school. Not happy with the middle school. Elementary school teachers were wonderful, unfortunately they left due to some issues with the school. My child was thriving in elementary school and was happy to go to school and had high self esteem. This year middle school completely ruined her self esteem because of teachers and she felt intimidated to ask for any help. Many students and parents not happy and are leaving or planning to leave. I can go on and on with the things I am not happy about but don't want to waste my precious time on something which is not worth it. read more

We are in month 3, and hitting our groove. My kiddo is so happy here, currently enrolled in Pre-K. The teachers are all so caring and communicative. We all know now two children are a like and they definitely take that into consideration. Nearly every night we talk about a new song, Spanish word, STEM activity, or art project that was the highlight of that day. Kiddo was not a fan of writing, and now is excited to write letters, and has picked up reading "sight words" everywhere we go. We are excited to see how the rest of the year unfolds. read more

I would give this school no stars if I could. I would like to say that I have been greatly disappointed this school. My child has a learning disability and from the first day I was promised that she would get extensive testing to see the areas she needed help. I never received and results on tests after asking what exactly it is that they are doing for my daughter. I was told that she would get massive amounts of help. I know there are nice reviews about this school and I so do wish that I was one of those parents. If your child even has the slightest learning disability or challenges this is NOT the school for you. Do not waste your money on this school. My daughter tried so hard at this school but she was just not given the help she was promised and the tools to try to succeed. I tried to speak with the teacher several times during the year about issues that I had but the buck was always passed off onto the head of the school to deal with. It seemed like the teacher was afraid to speak with me, or maybe just didn't care. In my opinion it was both! I was just informed today, a couple days before school is ending, that my child is failing in almost every subject. The teacher threw a bunch of assignments at my daughter to complete in three days just to bring her grade up. In my opinion my child should have had assignments sent home for her to work on and able to retake tests throughout the semester to bring her grades up. I am so angry that I paid so much money to get help for my daughter and I got MUCH less than what public school would do. At least when my daughter was in public school in years passed I was brought in on meetings about my daughters progress or lack there of. We discussed ways to help her. This school did no such thing. I had one meeting with the teacher at the beginning of the year and that was it. On top of everything my child was supposed to start state testing along with all of her peers today. My daughter told me she was pulled out of class this morning and told she wasn't going to do testing. She was brought to the gym to hang out while EVERY other child did state testing. Why in the world would a school do something like that. I will tell you why. They don't want my daughters poor state testing grades to reflect how much they didn't help or teach her. It will show what a sorry excuse of a school this place really is. By the way, we were paying almost 1,000 dollars a month for this sham. Next year they will be charging 1,500 dollars! They are charging an extra 500 dollars a month next year, for what?!!!!!!!!!! I am telling to save your money and go to public school or go to a school that is worth it. Don't do what I did. Don't be sweet talked into thinking this school will help your child. read more
