A celebration of urban living, Live It Up, Downtown! was presented by the Downtown Residents Council to show the community what living in the city proper had to offer.
Booths lined Fountain Square with information on dentists, dermatologists, opticians, veterinarians, churches, museums, art programs, gyms, book stores, and of course, apartments and condos for sale. Food trucks lined the Square as wells as booths from Keystone, Taste of Belgium, and grilled meats from Avril Bleh. Plus, live entertainment filled the stage the entire day.
It was a beautiful day to promote Downtown living, although I found the festival fell short in a few areas:
- The open house time frame was too short, and the map was difficult to read. Plus, one of the properties listed wasn't showing their units.
- The event was supposed to be going on until 11:00pm, but by 8:00, all of the vendors had backed up and deserted Fountain Square. All that was left was the entertainment on stage.
For next time, I would suggest offering a mix of condos and apartments to tour, and plan to have clusters of properties grouped together on a map. For example: OTR, Central Downtown, Riverfront. Having people trek from West Fourth Street to Lytle Park, then up to Central Parkway is ambitious in a three-hour time span. A larger time frame for tours would also be helpful, perhaps from 1:00 - 6:00 or 3:00 - 8:00.
Live It Up, Downtown! is a wonderful idea to get new and current residents information of services in the surrounding area. Check it out if you're interested in urban dwelling. read more
