This is a great local fish store that has a great setup and wonderful people that work there. They have quality live fish and are very knowledgeable about them. They also have healthy live aquatic plants which are not always easy to find. They are also very humane to all of the fish in their store and it's very obvious that they care a great deal about their well-being. read more

Great place!! Staff is very friendly and while this is mainly a salt water store they were still happy to help me find a much cheaper better heater and other accessories and they do have fresh water fish as well! All there fish look healthy and the name Live Art Aquatics fits I spent half an hour just looking at fish when I came in just for a heater! I will definitely be back for my fresh water fish soon! read more

There's a lot of pet/fish stores in Kansas City and thankfully, this one is doing things right! First of all, as far as I know there are no "fish only" pet stores this far East. I get tired of going to Petco or Petland where yes they have fish, but it's not their main focus. Having a fish and coal store close is amazing enough! The tanks are still getting established since they didn't open that long ago. They have a ton of fish and corals though. The tanks are very clean and I didn't see any bad algae or hitchhikers. My favorite thing is that every time I'm there I see them doing things to the tank - always taking care of them. The location is awesome too. I didn't even know this little art district was in Independence. It's a fun street to walk down plus Mugs Up is across the street and made for a nice pit stop. Prices are extremely affordable. Much cheaper than most places and for fish and corals I feel would stay alive. A lot of stores I go to I don't see the fish/corals thriving until I bring them home - but not here. Everything looks incredibly healthy and showed lots of signs of growth. The people is one thing that makes a big difference here. The employees/owner are not only active in many groups online but in-person, they're just as friendly. They always greet me, always start conversations, always check in with me, and are just down right friendly. It's a veyr different experience than some other fish stores I have been too. Went to freshwater auction at this place on Saturday and won the bid on 6 sailfin mollies. Got them home and in my tank and they seemed to be doing well. Woke up this morning ( Sunday) and 3 of them were dead and the other 3 not looking so good. I tested my water and it was fine and other fish in the tank are doing extremely well and have been for quite some time. I Feel I got ripped off and not sure I will go back to this place. read more

Ron and Shelby are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. Shelby has a degree in marine biology from FL. They have helped me problem solve numerous issues as a newbie to salt water aquariums. They are patient and knowledgeable. We have shopped there since May 2016. They have transitioned to a new location while maintaining the same courteous treatment they had at their aignificantly smaller store in Englewood. The staff was very knowledgable and answered all of my questions despite the fact that they probably answer those same ones 100X a day. No need to go into detail , anyone who has ever stepped inside this institution will come away with appreciation for the cause and quality of customer and livestock care. It's not about taking all your money out of your pockets with this store. They provide a great service to the metro area, one I thought I would never see in my lifetime. People consider saltwater a expensive hobby, it really isn't if you do not get oversold livestock and equipment not needed and get provided brilliant advice and addressing how to solve your quality of water issues. Plain and simple , they got me back into the enjoyment of saltwater aquariums at a very affordable price. You DON'T have to have the big name brands to make a majestic tank. In most cases you are just being a ignorant show off wasting your money with big name brand icon items. It's all made in China , one on one side of the plant and the other equal products come out the other side. If you enjoy wasting your money I will refer you to pay a visit to brother pet's. My new favorite store on the Missouri side! I went here last weekend after being referred here by another store in Overland Park (Kansas side). They have a very unique store, great stock, great prices and the location of it (art district) make it very appealing. Again, my biggest gripe with niche stores (especially aquatic stores) is the customer service always seems to be lacking. Not here, the young lady behind the desk was very kind when I walked in, and immediately asked if there was anything she could do for me. I can't tell you how many fish stores or hobby stores I've been to where most of the time they won't even look at you when you walk through the door! I broke down my tank last year due to lack of time, so I initially came here looking for a new tank set up, but what stuck out most to me was the health of livestock, as one yelper mentioned previously; most items do better once you take them home. But everything looked happy and full of life in all of their tanks, I can't wait to visit again. It seems this place is a family owned/run business, which to me is even better...small business is what built this country, and whenever you see someone really put their best foot forward to try and provide great service, it really stands out. I ended up picking up a tank off of craigslist, which I set up and am waiting to get some goodies for my tank, I know I'll be coming here. Thanks for the great experience Live Art Aquatics! read more
