Waitstaff service was excellent, super friendly, helpful, attentive and love what they do. Food was fabulous also. My partner and I shared a few tapas dishes and a main each. Presentation was beautiful, flavours were delightful. The tuna tataki was my super favourite, followed by the beef tartare. The restaurant has an intimate vibe with dimmed lighting. We joined the 30-something crew up on the deck on a mild March day. In the shade it was a tad cool and you could tell fall was setting in. There is no table service on the patio so you need to go inside to order food/drinks. We enjoyed a couple of pisco sours while watching people trickle in after a busy work week. The interior has a steam-punk, industrial vibe and that's fun and inventive. Service at the bar was friendly and they brought our drinks to us outside. All were tasty, the guac and chips were spot on and I particularly like the polenta chips as they were quite thin and crunchy rather than the chunky-burn-your-mouth out trying to eat it type. I'd come back and give dinner a go. I wasn't drinking so can't comment much on the booze available, but I did see that they do have happy hour specials going and mulled wine for winter. Probably somewhere I'd come more for a beer or margarita than a wine. I had wild mushroom ragout with duck egg and my companion had avo with bacon and goats cheese. Both were tasty and nicely presented. It filled the hole. Coffee was good enough to satisfy a snobby Italian Fortunately it's not noisy from the hissing coffee machine and that alone would be worth one extra star at least! Having sampled both, I can say with certainty that they know their paella! The scallop paella was just delightful, having the right blend of spices, a bit of surf and turf to flavour the rice, along with well blended pumpkin. It was hearty and filling. Both dishes were served on small paella pans and were well presented. In addition, the sangrias we sipped were fruity and refreshing. The staff was friendly, checking in on us more than once, topping off our water and clearing our table. It's true we beat the lunch rush so enjoyed the extra attention. This is one place where coming later still ensures you get a delicious meal, as the paella is a great dish that soaks in more flavour the longer on the grill. They served us some bread to go with and we were in heaven munching while watching the river and the people drift by. The service was prompt, but not rushed and I noticed after a while that all the servers were Italian. This is a nice touch. After finishing those we were still a little hungry and split a plate of pesto gnocchi. The dumplings were light and firm and the pesto sauce was perfect. We savored that and a little more people watching and eventually drifted off. There are a huge number of choices along the Promenade. After writing off the chain restaurants, the soulless corporate fronts with thumping music, and the ones with the dreaded QR code ordering systems there are still many to choose from.
