I purchased our tickets in person and I was asked if I was part of their rewards program. I said that I thought that I was. I gave my phone number and was told that I wasn't in their system, but yet he didn't ask me if I wanted to sign up. After we got to our seats I went to their website to sign up for their rewards because I always take advantage of loyalty programs, and when I put my information in it said I was already a member. We went to the concession stand where I was informed that they were out of most of the beverages in the beverage station because they had been busy. My nephew then went to look at the candy selection and we struck out again. He wears braces and has a peanut allergy and there were no plain M&Ms or chocolate options without peanut butter, so we couldn't buy candy. When we got to our seats I was so shocked that I started laughing and took a picture before I sat down. The recliners are old and worn and worse than any furniture I have seen in people's homes. Thankfully my nephew enjoyed the movie (Elio).

The parking lot was pretty empty, though it was 2p on a Friday. Their restrooms seemed well kept, which is always nice. We got right in, got our popcorn and drink and off to find our seats. Great big comfy recliners with swinging trays for your snacks and drinks. It wasn't as loud as I remember which was a nice change. Great time!

I am deeply disappointed by my recent experience at the Civic Auditorium. What was once a…read morerespected, community-focused venue has unfortunately declined--largely due to the behavior of its staff and ushers. The staff were rude and unprofessional, and shockingly unaccommodating toward children. This was especially upsetting given that we were attending a production specifically geared toward families and kids, Annie. Instead of being welcoming or patient, the usher we encountered was dismissive and unfriendly, making it very clear that children and teens are not truly welcome here. This venue is no longer family-friendly, despite advertising family-oriented productions. If you're bringing kids or teens, be prepared for an environment that feels rigid, uninviting, and uncomfortable. What makes this even more disappointing is my long history with the Civic. My family has donated large sums of money (we could have bought a couple homes with the amount we've donated) over the past 30 years because we believed in its mission and its role in the community. Sadly, after this experience, we will no longer be supporting it. The Civic is simply not what it once was. If you're looking for a welcoming, inclusive place to enjoy theater with your family, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Do not take your family to the Civic!

In May, the Park was hit by a tornado that destroyed many of the trees and damaged several structures. It is amazing how Mother Mature can change the face of the land so quickly. The Park is named Celery Flats, because the region has been popular for growing celery with its sandy soil. The Historic Area of the Park is decorated for the holidays with trees and lights. Historic buildings include a grain elevator, a one room school house and Stuart Manor. Stuart Manor as moved to the park in 1994 and was one of the first homes built in Portage. Hayloft Theater is a restored barn turned theater. The barn was damaged by the tornado and is awaiting repair. There is also an amphitheater in the Park that is perfect for summer concerts. The buildings were not open for touring during our visit, but they appear to be open during events. The Historic Area is a perfect place to bring the kids to learn about history. The hiking trail through the Park is part of the trail system that meanders through Portage and Kalamazoo. There are picturesque bridges along the trail with a canoe/kayak launch over Portage Creek. The trails are a perfect place to watch birds. We saw a flock of mallards in the creek during our visit. The trail offered something I had not seen before. There was a solar phone charging station near a bench for those who need to stay connected. The Park has a really nice pavilion that was decorated for Christmas. I could see this as a perfect place to take family pictures or visit with Santa. The parking lot is large with handicapped spaces close to the pavilion. The trails are paved and easily accessible. I will return to see how the forest recovers from the tornado. The Park has a lot to offer.
