Then I realized that the the cashier charged me approximately $75 for using a credit card. I asked her about this & she could not explain to me why I was being charged so much to use a credit card. She got her manager on the phone as she was alone in the store, and it turned into a fiasco. The manager - Luke - was incompetent & had no idea what good customer service looks like. He kept arguing with me that in some cases $75 might be an appropriate fee. Then he contacted his dad, the owner of the Wishing Well (the store next door), and dad - Paul - came in & doubled down on the incredibly poor customer service of son Luke. I was treated disrespectfully and was never offered an apology for the inconvenience. As a result of the charge having been run thru, there was a now a $400 hold on my account (over a holiday weekend) despite the fact that they voided it. Neither Paul nor Luke did ANYTHING to try and ameliorate the situation nor make up for the inconvenience this caused my bank account & me. It's also worth noting that no where in the store or by the cashier's table is there an indication that they charge a fee for paying with a credit card, and that that fee is an excessive 4%. Seems dishonest. While this fee has become common practice, it's also common practice to make customers aware of this fee and its percentage. Needless to say I won't be going back to either store, which is a shame bc I like supporting local businesses. I guess I'll just buy everything on Amazon - it's usually cheaper anyway. Don't know how Paul & Luke don't get that customer service is key in ANY business.
