By the time that I walked into Ascend Physical Therapy in early July I had significant limited mobility and discomfort. Lisa, the Physical Therapist and Patti, her assistant are miracle workers! They work in tandem like a finely oiled machine while also demonstrating compassion. Each appointment they ask how you are feeling and I had a sense that they were really listening. I was discharged today with a youthful pep in my step. I have sincere appreciation for their dedication, knowledge and compassion. The facility itself is clean and modern. I am facing foot surgery and she gave me advice to call my surgeon to start scheduling now if I wanted the surgery at the end of the month and not to wait until my appointment. She was correct. Dr is now making the necessary plans. Lisa also made me aware of equipment I will need during my two month recuperation in a non walking cast. Ues, Ascend is a full service therapy business. And I haven't even discussed Patty. She gets all insurance forms submitted, makes sure my appointments are made and calls when new appointment spots open up that might be more convenient for my schedule. I did try PT at several other locations prior to contacting Adapt. When I first went to Adapt, I did not think I would be able to do things I used to do such as weightlifting, running, or squatting. I signed up for 40 sessions. I stuck with their treatment and guidance, giving 100% effort and commitment. After 35 sessions, I realized I was generally feeling better. For my last five sessions David got me to a level I only dreamed was possible! David gave full effort every time I went for treatment. He is caring and he is very skilled at determining the best course of treatment. I am now feeling about 99% like my old self. Often I feel 100%. I am ecstatic with the results! I can now lift weights, run, and do squats with no pain or issues! I am super active and have so much more confidence in my conditioning and abilities. I thank Adapt for their amazing treatment and making my positive outcome a reality! Also, Caroline, the front office manager, is genuinely concerned about patents' outcomes. She was the first person I spoke to when I contacted Adapt. She has been so caring and sympathetic with me throughout the whole process. It is easy to think things will not work out when you work hard and results do not come as quickly as you expect. Both David and Caroline gave me the confidence I needed to stick to the plan. Prior to attending this clinic I would go through periods where my back would feel decent & periods were I would have to miss more than 1 week of work at a time, went to the hospital, etc. I always had success with my symptoms at other physical therapy places but I never seemed to get to the root of the problem & find a long term solution until I met Dr. Nicholas Dass. Over the last year not only has my back pain pretty much diminished to almost nothing but I also can actually touch my toes when flexing forward. This is something I have NEVER been able to accomplish in my life as I am not a flexible person. There was no stretching involved. It was all his unique approach and skill set combined with my willingness to put the required work effort in. Dr. Nick has given me my life back. I could not workout for the last 2 years and had put weight on. I now belong to a gym, am working out, & working on losing that weight I had gained. I can also play darts again (a hobby of mine that I love). More importantly, he has given me my independence back where I do not feel that this chronic issue owns me any longer. A Very "Fluid" Situation With A Real Happy Ending,…read more I am a 64 year old semi-retired Executive Chef from Verona, NJ. I remember, quite vividly, being a strong and competent leader while I worked in professional kitchens all across the country. One thing I demanded, from my workers, was for them to honor and uphold their personal pledge to uphold and honor the word "perfection". God knows none of us are perfect in our ways but it is challenging to try to be a great example especially in our workplace and in our homes with our loving families. I really enjoy meeting new friends and working with people who are "perfectionists" in their ways. I also enjoy people who are good teachers. I love listening and learning new things each and every day. Several months ago, I took a terrible fall in my bathroom, in the dead of night, and fractured my humerus bone in my shoulder, in 5 different places. To make a very long story short, my team of doctors elected not to do complete shoulder replacement surgery right away. Instead physical therapy would play the most important role. I was pretty damn frustrated too because #1, I was in a lot of physical pain and #2, I have already had two new hips replaced and three back surgeries during the course of the last 5 years. Believe me, going back to rehab was not in this Chef's plans again! One day (even before my accident), one of my registered nurse friends noticed deep and troubling swelling coming from my feet and my legs. She was worried that edema (an evil bodily fluid) was penetrating my body and perhaps even headed to my heart. Honestly, I thought nothing of it until I couldn't put on my sneakers on my feet anymore. I went to my family doctor who urgently sent me to the local hospital for 8 grueling hours worth of testing. They ruled out congestive heart failure but, instead, they sent me to a vascular specialist. They checked me every which way they could for blood clots and vascular damage. The results? No blockages or major vascular issues whatsoever. Instead, I had developed a chronic case of lymphodema. My wife and I both looked at each other and, at the same time, we both said "what the hell is that"? From there, I was recommended to one of two lymphodema treatment centers in northern New Jersey. When we first called their office, they did not have a first appointment for well over a month. Perseverance from my vascular surgeon and my wife both paid off greatly and I was able to get in to Omni Physical Therapy Center located at 1018 Broad Street in Bloomfield. Six weeks ago, I had the high honor and the great pleasure of meeting the two professional therapists there, Oscar and Ana Pozzoli (a married couple), who specialize in the treatment of this very dangerous condition. Upon my very first appointment, my legs and my feet were measured and, after a complete size up and a thorough examination, Ana let me know that I was in for a very long haul to remedy the situation. Oscar and Ana sat me down to explain and outline everything. Their "matter of fact" demeanor and their "perfect" professional and medical knowledge was both comforting and awe inspiring. It's been about 5 weeks since I started (3 times a week). The lymphodema (or the swelling) has decreased in my lower limbs by almost 8 centimeters. That's truly amazing! During one of my weekly visits, I asked Ana and Oscar a very important question. Why don't more people know about lymphodema or lipidema (which affects ladies)? I am sure that you know a relative or a friend who may have abnormal swelling going on in their limbs or upper body. It is a condition that should not be ignored or brushed off. Please first check with your family doctor because a vascular specialist will have to rule out blood clots or other physical ailments. If you are diagnosed with lymphodema or lipidema, than I have found the "perfect" therapy center just for you! Ana, Oscar, Maribel (their wonderful assistant) and their cute little dog, Dora will welcome you with open arms or open "paws". It is nice to know that caring and ultra intelligent medical professionals really do exist in this world of ours. I am so grateful to both of them. I have to wear compression hosiery for the rest of my life (no skirt jokes please!) but it's a small price to pay for getting my health back in order. Ana and Oscar are now rehabilitating my broken shoulder and, in just two visits, I already have much more range of motion back. Are they miracle workers? Maybe. Perfectionists? Without a doubt! She was redirected to another center and after that it was a free-for-all. I had constant changes in my therapist, often people who were assistants and not real therapist, and then they decided when they were through giving me physical therapy not my doctor. The workers seemed bored with their work but not each other. As a result eight months later, almost 9 I'm having to get a private Ph.d therapist. Too sick to question their lack of caring, I'm very disappointed with Professional Physical Therapy. All the right equipment, no continuity in my case. I would say that they better clean up their act and assign one therapist to one patient. It appears that they're trying to do too many things at one time which did not give continuity to me and as a result, I'm stuck with a stiff knee several months later. My doctor should have made the decision to release me. PS: not all the therapist seem happy, but seem to like to get around with each other more than Pay attention to the continuity for the patient. Great, I'm out of inpatient and on my way to outpatient recovery. Upon arrival I was given the new patient info form to complete. I have a fair idea of the PT billing amounts to an insurance company. You automatically have certain expectations. First I notice that the form is: off center on copy paper, re copied enough times that there are copy marks and smudges everywhere. Move on dude. OK. The form is one page and crowded, two pages would have been nice. Oh here we go ... try fitting your address et.al. in these spaces. Good luck. Just a first impression. I am going to say that the room is depressing. I am then directed to one of the small office rooms to speak with a Therapist. The conversation was probably about why I was there. I don't remember specifically. I do clearly remember that a one point he said to me "I don't think I'm going to like you.". That erased all of the conversation before and after. As I rise to leave, he hands me a page of exercise diagrams that can be done at home. The same over copied, off center, streaked appearance as the first paper. One call to the Insurance Company cleared up everything, I failed to appear at my next appointment.
