Helga's is a cozy restaurant in the middle of the city of Rostock. From Mondays to Fridays they…read moreoffer special lunch menus, one of them is vegetarian. The service is very fast at lunch time and the price affordable, up to 6 Euro. In the evenings you can choose from the menu - like burgers, Schnitzel, Wraps, soups, etc. There are also different beverages on the menu like soft drinks, different beer, wine and cocktails. The service could be faster and friendlier sometimes. The design is like a retro living room in the 80's. The tables and chairs are made of old wood. But there are also antique sofas and funny pics on the wall. The food is excellent and they are known for their burgers. A tip from us: they could renovate the restrooms.

I needed a quick, easy lunch at Rostock station and the pizza here smelled so good that I was drawn…read moreinto the queue. Obviously pretzels are meant to be the speciality, but I didn't see anyone order one... Most people went for the hot savoury items, so I decided to follow suit, and did that horrible tourist thing of pointing to what I wanted with a mumbled 'bitte'. The signs were handwritten and I don't speak German so didn't know what anything was, but it was clear these were all 'specials' as the pizza and pretzels had proper printed signs. The staff member was surly at best (with everyone - it wasn't because I was a tourist!). The food was warmed a bit (but didn't come out hot) and was quickly passed over. For about €2, I was presented with some sort of bready thing with a twist in the middle, filled with 2 long thin sausages and covered in cheese. It was fine, if a bit dry, and while not hot, wasn't cold either. I could take it or leave it - and in the end, I left at least half of it. If this was a place I passed through every day, I'm sure I'd find a few favourites. I know it's a large chain so at least you know what you're getting (usually...!)

They made it quickly and had a ledge for diners eating in. Unfortunately, my eating experience consisted of rescuing meat and onion bits from the flood of garlic sauce. I had to leave a good amount of my food on the place because it was such a mess :( Although I didn't take advantage of it, you could by Rostocker beer to go. They also have pizza to go.

From the servicing of customers to the presentation and delivery of the meal. Grade A in all aspects. Very cozy interior, and elegant design with a splash of modern jazz. Music was hip, light, and refreshing which "opened" for a live pianist which was great. Brilliant management decision. The selection of steaks was perfect and what one would expect of a quality steak house. The steaks were cooked perfect. Rare and medium rare were exactly how it was meant to be. The sides were great, but not necessary for the meal to achieve satisfaction. The desert of creme brulee was a pleasant surprise; it can only be described as a fusion between an apfel strudel and your classic creme brulee. Paired with some red wine, the dining experience was remarkable. Definitely recommend for those seeking quality dining while in Schwerin.
