Bottom Line: Unique and quality toys and friendly service…read more OBX Toys and Engraving, formerly Monkey Business/Make it Personal, opened around June 2020 on the bypass/Hwy 158 at MP 13.5 in the same shopping center with Sound Feet Shoes and Radio Shack (maybe in Yellowhouse Gallery's old spot?). I enjoyed wandering around this toy store. I was looking for a family friendly game but I wasn't able to make a decision so I moved on to checking out the plethora of Melissa and Doug toys and the Create-a-Critter machine. I've always been a Melissa and Doug fan because I feel like they make quality, timeless toys. I like their wooden puzzles in particular but they offer offer lots of great toys. Anyone who likes Melissa and Doug will probably appreciate the diverse selection at OBX Toys. Create-a-Critter was new to me. Lucky for me there was a little boy making a bear so I got to witness a little bit of the creation process. Basically, Create-a-Critter is like Build-a-Bear. You pick the critter you want to make yours and then the staff help you use this big gumball-machine-looking-thing that fills the critter to make it a plush toy. Critters start at about $20 and then you can pick out outfits and such. In addition to selling toys, including hosting Create-a-Critter birthday parties, OBX Toys also has an engraving business. I saw some of their samples but didn't get a very close look. Also, I saw an advertisement that says they do gender reveal boxes which seems like a neat idea. I didn't interact with the staff while I was at the store but I saw them helping other customers and could see how kind, patient and helpful they are. I definitely plan to return the next time I am in the area.

I rescued my dog Lexi in the fall of 2011 from this shelter. She was only 6 months old and gave me…read morethose puppy eyes, begging for someone to adopt her. She had been abused and either abandoned or ran away. She was found wth a deep head wound that left her mostly bald and had several gashes around her neck. With some love and tlc she finally has a full head of hair but sadly her deep gashes (which my vet deemed most likely the result of battery acid burns, used as a baiting method in fighting dogs) still remain on her neck. She is so full of love and energy and a completely wonderful dog. I'm so glad this shelter found her and took care of her before me. When I was at the shelter, they provided cots in the dogs' pens for them so sleep on and kept the animals well hydrated in the summer heat. There is a nice play area for volunteers and potential adopters to spend time with the dogs. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable. Overall I thought this shelter did an amazing job. Thank you for everything!

This was my first time using a laundrette - having an Airstream, our dry cleaning bill is exorbitant. This isnt much cheaper, and may not be worth it. For the most part the place is clean-ish, minus a few abused machines, machines that instantly dump your fabric softener before the wash even begins (wasting your expensive Downy lavender), machines that leave *something* on your items so you're forced to rewash several articles, filthy compartments for laundry soap/bleach/softener (I recommend pods instead) and the broken tiles you'll break your neck on if you dont catch yourself quick enough. But $10 to do the large load of laundry (x3 - for whites, lights, and darks) and AT LEAST 3 attempts per dryer-even the super sized ones, at $1.65 per attempt ($4.95 x3) is almost $50. For 3 loads of clean-ish laundry. Then you get to walk through clouds of cigarette smoke with your expensive cleaning because the benches out front host the surrounding employees in the shade for their cancer breaks. So IF you must, beggars can't be choosers.
