I stumbled upon Granny's Garden school through a Yelp service event we were doing and instantly…read morefell in love. Now Granny's Garden school is actually part of Loveland Elementary school. We looked and looked and could not find it because the place itself does not exist. Granny herself runs this nonprofit as more of an educational giving back kind of initiative. As we were moving piles of mulch to the garden beds we met her in person and wow what a special person! She explained to all of us the history of how she got started and it was basically to teach children early about how to eat healthy and that healthy eating can be fun, and delicious! She also said that each classroom of the school has a plot that they are responsible for growing during the season. The class then harvests the plants and they are used for the school's lunches!!! How cool is that? We had processed patties of who knows what slopped on our trays. She even said that kids will eat raw veggies right out of the garden. And when I say raw, some of the kids just take bites out of tomatoes and eat them whole! What a great cause. I would have never even known about this place, but if you are looking to volunteer or just have fun giving back this is a great great place. There were even some high school kids earning class credit on the day we went.

Media Bridges is a local non-profit that provides access and education to the community on…read moretechnology and technology resources. They just recently moved downtown on Race and Central Parkway. The center offers free classes to the community on things such as video production, graphic design, web design, Once someone has taken classes there, they can have access to use the electronics and equipment that Media Bridges owns. They also produce programming on their four local access channels for many local organizations. They pride themselves on being one of the many organizations that have moved into Over the Rhine to help it's revitalization and growth as a booming cultural and arts neighborhood. I am actually looking into taking some classes there soon. I hear that they are somewhat hard to get into as they are free!

If you are a Cincinnati resident, you can come here to learn how to create your own television show and have it broadcast. How so? 1.) Call up Media Bridges. Ask to signup for their television classes. They also have radio classes if music is more your thing. 2.) Attend the required classes and learn how to use the equipment. Ask questions! 3.) Once you are proficient, you can borrow video cameras, use the station's television studio or radio pod to create your own show. Media Bridges also has several editing suites so that you can put together your show and add graphics and effects. 4.) When you have a completed show, you can burn it to DVD and schedule it for broadcast. Pretty cool, eh? Media Bridges is community centric and promotes freedom of speech. As long as your message is tastefully produced, you can make a show about anything: hobbies, cartoons, talk show, politics, music, religion... your imagination is the limit.

Although Cincinnati Milling Machine was around until the 1970s, many of its original machines are still in use today, both in corporations and personal woodworking shops. Enter Cincinnati Machine. This company sells spare parts for the old milling machines, many of which are custom fit or unavailable elsewhere on the market. It's wonderful that this business is not only helping restore some of the highest quality foundry mechanics ever produced, they are also preserving a piece of Cincinnati history.

This is the local cemetery in Mt. Washington and it's small, but is quite beautiful…read more The cemetery entrance is off of Sutton Road right next to the local Post Office. The cemetery's grounds stretch all the way from Sutton to Beechmont Avenue. You can also view the cemetery from Beechmont Avenue on the sidewalk, but there is a tall fence that prevents you from entering on that side. There is a big building in the center of the cemetery and there are roads so you can drive around inside. There are some beautiful grave stones and monuments ranging from highly elaborate to barely marked. I don't know how early the graves go back, but would be interested to find the oldest one!

Lots of early settlers and civil war buried here . Very few spots remain and it has a devoted group of caretakers who offer tours once a year .
