Next visit I plan to do a little more walking around. This is a huge land mass and there are some areas you cannot get to via vehicle. It was nice to see lots of people on bike, flying kites and with the pets.

The community rose up to support the families and for more than 2 months. Flags were being waved off bridges and the grass area here because covered in flags and notes. A flag pole went up within two weeks and money was raised for what you see here. Chattanooga stood strong during and after this event but will not be forgotten.

Great Park, Lots To Do…read more This is a great park for kids. Unique park with unique activities and them makes for a good day to play. Treehouse theme is cool and they have some good slides for the kiddos. There is also a walk at path that goes somewhere, but I have gone far down it yet. Across the road is a tank, helicopter and plane or so I am told as well. Parking can be tricky on a weekend as it gets packed and a spaces are limited. Nice park with mostly friendly people.

They have one pavilion that has picnic tables so if it isn't rented out you can use. There are a few benches near the park but on a hot day shade is minimal. I like that they have a variety of climbing objects, plenty of swings, including the two in one where you can have a baby in a baby swing while you're in a adult one. It's a decent sized playground so plus the parking situation is pretty good. Not too hard to find parking.

There are multiple foreigners who came to help the American colonies win the war over the British, but this man was not dressed in colonial garb. Who is he and why is he represented here? Those questions led me to research. I learned that Colonel Heg was a Norwegian-American who commanded a volunteer regiment of Scandinavians from Wisconsin to fight for the Union. He was killed at the Battle of Chickamauga, the highest ranking officer from Wisconsin killed in the Civil War. So now I'm here in Chattanooga and touring the battlefield. I was able to find this monument. It is a shell monument, i.e., a triangular pyramid of eight-inch shells, ten feet tall. It is on Viniard Field where it intersects with LaFayette Road at Auto Tour Stop #5. There are signs pointing the way nearby. [Review 18841 overall - 548 in Georgia - 2364 of 2022.]

We learned so much about this amazing city which we would not have otherwise. We were fascinated by all Chattanooga has to offer. Sure, was a terrible hot day over 100 degrees but the trolly was acceptable. We usually take a tour like this in a new city we have not visited before. This is a great way to familiarize ourselves to all there is to offer. WE highly recommend this tour to anyone. Very considerate and safe driver even at the end of a very long hot day for him. Anxious to now explore more in-depth so spots we were exposed to on our tour. Thanks for showcasing Chattanooga for us.

THE HISTORICAL RINGGOLD DEPOT…read more The Ringgold Depot, built in 1850, is one of the oldest antebellum railroad depots in Georgia. The depot was once used in the Civil War as a supply point for Confederate troops. In 1862, the locomotive, "The General" passed through the depot after being stolen from the Kennesaw station in a failed attempt to disrupt Confederate operations. The chase came to an end just two miles north of the depot. After sustaining damage from Union artillery during the In 1863 battle of Ringgold, the building sustained heavy damage and evidence of the repair is apparent as it is a lighter shade than other parts of the building. I love that this building is now being used for community events such as musical performances (the Christmas show is tonight), weddings, and other programs. It is a beautiful building that has been lovingly restored, (2003). We were very fortunate today to discover a couple of employees in the building who were able to give us a bit of history about the building and how it was used. Looking at the front of the building, you will see two identical doors, the door on the left was used for "colored people" who purchased their tickets and then had to wait outside until the train arrived. The door on the right was for "whites" because it was closer to the train and of course they were allowed to wait inside of the station. The young lady providing this information mentioned that she did not like talking about this racial history and it obviously made her uncomfortable but I really appreciated her honesty and openness. It was priceless! The original doors that lead to the train have been replaced but they are covered by huge sliding structures. These structures were moved away from the door so that we were able to stand on the platform and see what it was like to wait for the train. I was surprised at how close it was. I could have leaned out and licked it! We were also given information on how items, (including the mail) were loaded on the train.

THE BATTLE AT RINGGOLD GAP: A HERO IS REMEMBERED!…read more This little park is easy to miss if you are not looking for it along Highway 41 just east of downtown Ringgold. We drove right past it but realizing what we had missed, we stopped on the return trip. Just look for the stone wall and the large statue. This park consists of a historical monument to General Cleburne and several historic markers commemorating the Battle at Ringgold Gap and the beginning of the Atlanta Campaign. With only 4100 Confederate soldiers, Maj. Gen. Patrick Cleburne successfully defended the city of Ringgold against an army of 20,000 Union soldiers. The bronze statue, erected in 2003, depicts a man in a reflective posture with a determined expression. It pays great respect to a man who faced a sudden call to lead a demoralized group of men. With the number of men he went up against, it was sheer strategy and tenacity that allowed him to stay in control as long as he did. He became known as Stonewall of the West. This little park is a simple roadside park with picnic tables and not much else. It clearly exists as a Civil War Monument and should be respected as such. I

We cross over this bridge, which traverses the Tennessee River, quite a lot. The bridge doesn't…read moretake long to cross; just a couple minutes. Doing business with many places scattered all throughout Chattanooga kind of requires the use of this bridge. Traffic runs relatively smoothly most times. Only once was I stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic while in the middle which was due to an auto accident at the end of the bridge. Otherwise, it's smooth sailing. The bridge gets us to where we need to go when we want to go and that's what matters the most. It's a bridge with beautiful views of nearby TenBridge, TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority, which runs the bridge), and the Tennessee River, chock full of its many activities. Chances are great that if you ever get to Chattanooga, Tennessee, you will be crossing this bridge.
