For years, a kind female manager said her mother was handicapped and would fix the issue on why they keep turning the handicap door off, bur nope. Still happens eight years later. For eight years, since being paralyzed; I have repeatedly asked management and staff during each visit to turn on their handicap door. For no reason whatsoever, they keep it turned off. I've been stuck outside in a wheelchair for 30 minutes being late to my movie, because I am relying on staff (that sees me and hears me knocking, by the way) or a good Samaritan to open the doors. I've watched my handicap mother struggle. It's just a slap in the face, especially to us as Cinemark monthly members. I purchased a Cinemark membership five years ago to keep the movies alive... but the seats are broken, app doesn't work, and the staff doesn't care about people with disabilities. Today was my last time giving Cinemark a chance.

The lobby was large, clean, and bright. The ticket taker was friendly and directed us which direction to go to find our theater. We found our theater and it was clean without visible trash or sticky floors. We found our seats and were sad to learn that the seats did not recline. We arrived in our theater at the stated time for the show, but had to sit through 20 minutes of movie previews and ads before the feature film. The sound during this time was so loud that my ears were literally hurting and my husband had to totally remove his hearing aids. I sat with my hands over my ears and could still here everything perfectly. Looking around we saw that others seemed to be noticing the same thing. During the feature film, the sound was a bit better, but still extremely loud. The restroom was clean and well-stocked with no trash on the floors. The parking lot is expansive and plenty of spaces were available during the matinee timeframe.

The real name to fame here is the movie in 1958 "Some Came Running" with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Shirley MacLaine was filmed here and they stayed here during the filming of the movie. At the Ohio Movie Theater on Main Street there is a Bronze Star on the sidewalk talking about the movie, the stars and the movie Premiere that was held here in Madison at the Ohio Theater.. The Ohio Theatre was built in 1938 and is located in the small Ohio River town of Madison, Indiana. The site where the theater sits first housed a nickelodeon in the early-1900's, then a movie theatre called the Little Grand Theatre, which burned in 1937. Rebuilt as the Ohio Theatre in 1938, it ran first run movies until it closed in 1993. Renovated and reopened in 1996, the now-twinned Ohio continues to show mid-run family targeted movies (no R-rated films) and also operates as a venue for various live events throughout the year.

It was not crowded, seats laid back and were comfortable. Air temperature was also good in the theatre. Although we did have pillows and a blanket in case we needed it. All equipment worked well, movie ran smoothly and the staff was there to clean up after us as we were leaving the theater and ready it for the next showing. Staff was friendly, plenty of parking and lots of showtime offerings. The movie was great. Funny, sad, touching, emotional. It is heart warming. Full array of snacks for purchase. Bathrooms and the theatre were clean.

I also love how consistent Baxter Avenue is. I've gone several times since I last wrote my review in 2018 and can report it holds up! Some things I love: * Easy to get tickets online! I've done this a few times now, which makes getting to my screen a breeze. * The big comfy, reclining seats! * The bar! Yep, get a drink before your movie starts ... but just be warned that you may have to make a bathroom run part of the way through your flick. * The helpful staff! I haven't come across anyone at Baxter who hasn't been helpful. Add to this the discounted tickets on Tuesdays and mix of blockbusters and indie movies and it's a local theater that should be treasured. And I mean treasured! It's come out that the shopping center that houses the theater is up for sale. I really, really hope nothing happens to the theater! Baxter is a theater we can't lose!
