While sitting on one of the wooden bench seats and placing my order with my husband, I suddenly felt something stab into the back of my left thigh. The pain was immediate and intense. When I reached back, I realized a piece of the bench had broken off and gone inside my skin. I was wearing a dress, so I jumped up in a panic trying to get it out. My husband couldn't see it at first because it was embedded inside my leg. After several attempts, we finally managed to pull it out -- and the piece of wood had blood on it. I now have a painful welt on my thigh, and as a diabetic, this kind of injury is especially concerning because of the risk of infection. I'm also concerned about what germs or bacteria were in that wood. I showed the piece of the bench to the waitress (it was her first day, and she clearly didn't know what to do), and I asked her to let the manager know because I didn't want anyone else to experience this. No one came to check on me. No one asked if I was okay. My husband eventually had to ask for our food to-go because I was so shaken and miserable I couldn't even stay to eat. When I went to the counter and asked for the manager myself, she came out and gave a very dismissive "I'm sorry about that, I'll check it out." I followed her to show her the bench, and her response was, "Yeah, I see. I'll just have them turn the bench to the other side." That was it. No concern, no incident report, no offer to help, no acknowledgment of how serious this was -- after we spent $88 on our meals. This experience completely ruined my day, left me injured, and left me extremely disappointed in the lack of care or responsibility shown by management.
