However, having been put off by Queen Alexandra's Hospital in Portsmouth by their lack of physical tour (you have to get by with a substandard YouTube video), and also feedback from others that it was a busy hospital and somewhat akin to a sausage machine (I had one story of someone being in and out in 12 hours - and they didn't necessarily want to be processed so quickly), I decided to opt for Chichester. It was the right choice - indeed quieter, albeit a bit older looking, but still fit for purpose. This maternity ward is very well run, the midwife was very good and I got the epidural that I wanted (needed!) for my third baby. I would definitely recommend this hospital to any nervous mums. Getting the tour and having a chance to ask questions and familiarize oneself with the layout was really helpful in orientating me to the NHS way and allaying any fears/answering questions. My only pick up point was infant security. As I left the hospital the receptionist let me swan out - no outgoing checks, no bracelet checking, no escort to the door, nothing. It made me wonder what the protocol was should there be an attempted baby theft...

Since I was last in Portsmouth and used the outpatients department a new building has been built on the site. Recently I had cause to visit and though the appointment was almost on time and the consultant I saw was very throrough and friendly I had the usual issues for parking. All the parking at this hospital is pay and display and there is only one place in the hospital that will give you change. Don't try the outpatients reception (new or old) or even main reception. The only place you can get change is from the main restaurant which is quite a walk down many coridoors. So my tip is take plenty of change for the meters and I'd always opt for a minimum of 2 hours as you never know how long the wait to be seen will be.

Thank goodness it was a chest infection but was kept in overnight because my oxygen levels were low. My only complaint was the ward was dirty and looked run down and tacky. The loo was horrible, not clean and patients urine samples were left there. Even mine! I was told to give a sample leave it there and a nurse would sort it out. My sample stayed in exactly the same place where I had put and was still there when I left, the same goes for the other samples, they never moved.

Once you fill out one set of forms you dont have toworry again it is all arranged for you. Appointments are easy to book one number and the person on the phone has all information ready and does not keep you waiting. I would highly recommend bupa.

I was immediately drawn to her, as her ethos of helping people very much aligned to my own, as a Hypnotherapist. Told the nurse multiple times that I'm in pain, and she said "Everyone here is in pain and I don't look so bad." I can barely walk, yet apparently, I look well enough to be put behind people who can speed walk when the nurse calls them. People who look so healthy apparently look more I'll Than I do to the nurses. I think they are racist given I'm the only brown customer here. I'm in such pain and it's not good enough compared to patients who look like they just stepped out of a magazine. Wtf, do we pay a high sum of money for every month if this is the service we get? I thought my countries' Healthcare system was bad, this is disgusting.
