This beach was the most gorgeous one we went to in our time in Maui. You walk over a small rock structure to get to it - but don't get too worried - it's totally doable in flip flops carrying a beach chair. Once you get there, lots of undeveloped quiet beach area to choose from. The water itself is totally lovely - sandy bottom and lots of room to stand and enjoy being in the water - when we were there it was windy but I wouldn't even say the waves were big enough to reliably body surf in. People there said waves did get bigger. We went thinking it was the gay beach - it was definitely more of the nude old hippie beach. It was relatively wholesome, though - and a plus for me was that at least when we there there were no little kids or families around. read more

Yep, it's little...and people wear little to no clothing. This ain't the movies either- there are people of all shapes and sizes. I love the freedom to be comfortable in just your skin. No one was creepy. We chatted with people out in the water as though we had suits on- a very easygoing and chill vibe. The waves are great here too. I loved it so much I asked my guy to go back two more times while we were on Maui. We brought cold drinks in our soft cooler and made a makeshift sunblock with our hammock to avoid too much sun exposure. Some women just go topless, some men wear their suits- if you go with someone who wants to be in the "altogether", but you're a little shy or visa versus, no worries. Been wanting to try this beach for years and finally got a chance to go. Just to the right of Big beach that is part of the Makena State Park. Little beach is a well known clothing optional beach that is secluded by a large rock wall. You have to climb up and then walk down a sandy path that opens up to Little Beach. Gorgeous sandy beach and beautiful water that was clear and calm the day I visited. If your in Maui and enjoy nude beaches this is a must visit. I love swimming nude and Little beach was fantastic. The parking lot requires a $10 payment per car and $5 per person. You can pay with a credit card or I used an app called Park mobile. You just add your car license plate to the app and your credit card. Very easy to use and they track your payment and license plate number to confirm you paid. read more

Little beach is an unofficial nude beach located right over the volcano to the right of big beach. Like the name says, little, so don't expect a huge stretch of sand. It's a fun experience if you're looking for something different or if you want to even out those tan lines. Mostly everyone at little beach is really respectful and I didn't get any creepo vibes. The only thing is that you do have to hike back over the rock to restrooms and there are no trash cans. Despite what others have said, the climb/hike over the volcano is super easy, tons of pockets to get good footing, just be careful. I hiked over with 2 chairs, an umbrella and a cooler - so that tells you how easy it is. The beach does get crowded and since it's not a huge spot, it can get very crowded. Come early! read more

Great as reviewed. People keep to themselves. Nude, half nude or fully dressed. No one cares. We left when people brought their kids. That's a deal breaker for me. Not appropriate. Would be a super good spot, however, beware of the creeper scumbags lurking in the trees and bushes in the back, they are obviously suffering from some sort of brain malfunction and should not be there disturbing the peace, they stick out like a sore thumb and ruin the vibe, some have no shame and will stare at you, otherwise, the beach itself is beautiful, clean and relaxing for the most part, great swim spot as well, mostly couples, gay and straight with a few of those weirdos that i had mentioned. Not my favorite clothing optional beach in Hawaii. That goes to Polo on Oahu. Little Beach is small and deep, meaning people are stacked front to back as opposed to side to side. Because this beach attracts older gay men, 80% of the beach goers are fully clothed older gay men who line the back of the beach and just stare - it made it very unenjoyable. The beach is also sort of tiered so you get these older men who sit in the back up high who are staring behind you the entire time - it was super uncomfortable and ruined the vibe. The beach itself has great sand and is secluded but the water is not calm with waves crashing into the shore. I didn't find the crowd to be friendly overall. Polo Beach on Oahu is much more enjoyable and a friendly mixed crowd. read more

Beautiful, somewhat secluded beach that is clothing OPTIONAL. I would've given 5 stars were it not for the apparently popular local guy named "Yanni" who berated my husband and I upon his arrival to the beach, which was shortly after us and just after we set up. We are not nudists but have no issues with it and have enjoyed similar experiences in the past. We were just settling in and sussing it out when this man, who either suffers from a mental health condition (I suspect) or is just an extremely eccentric a-hole (my husband suspects), began throwing insults at my husband for no other reason than apparently not being local. I told my husband, "DO NOT ENGAGE"!!. My husband made the mistake of defending himself - after the 3rd targeted insult. "Yanni" feigns an "Aloha" spirit but clearly is a narcissist intent on letting everyone know he owns the beach. Fortunately, another super chill and friendly regular intervened privately and bought us some grace. Thank you!! Though he still went on - and we allowed him to continue to berate us without defense for another solid 10 minutes. He is clearly mentally ill but eventually wore himself out and we were able to enjoy the remaining time. Part of me wonders if it was a strategy to get us to leave (heard him say "they will be gone in a half an hour"). After reading the reviews now, we may have come upon the "aggressive" local hippie crew "guarding the entrance". Our bad. We may go back again, but will probably choose a spot further down the beach. read more

You'll want to park at Big Beach, which is one flat fee plus each person in your party; once you hit the beach, take a right, then walk toward the red/black rocks, climb up and over to head into Little Beach - it is a little hike, with some larger rocks to climb but worth it! read more

However, after being there for awhile there was a man that I spotted recording me in the beach and coming out. This same man had been playing with himself multiple times in front of us. A local woman came over to me directly after and confirmed what I strongly suspected. After I confronted his pathetic self, another local male came and also confronted/confirmed him doing today and ALSO yesterday even! I don't know about anyone else, but I am absolutely not okay with a man recording me in a vulnerable state and without my consent. Little Beach was everything I was hoping it would be. We visited this afternoon after reading that it is the unofficial but very well-known nude beach of Maui. My husband and I are not nudists by any means, but we are unbothered by nudity and appreciate relaxing in nature in the most natural of ways :-) The crowd there was mostly male, mostly 50's+, and mostly nude. It is definitely no beauty contest. I found it surprisingly comfortable to be amongst all of the sun worshippers just minding their own business, that after a short while I was inspired to go topless myself! #freethenipple Note - Little Beach is no place for gawkers or creeps, so keep your eyes to yourself and just enjoy the scenery and the company. I'd recommend bringing a pair of shoes cause you'll need the foot support and to climb up. Wonderful view from the top of big beach, defiantly a Kodak moment. The path down to little beach is much easier then going up. Located in a cove gives a wonderful hiding place for the day to strip down and bare it all. This is more than just a clothing optional beach. It's also home to a growing number of bongo drummers, dancers, and their audience, especially on Sundays when it can get very crowded come the afternoon. Sunset brings cheers and applause. PARKING: There are 2 parking lots though the north entrance parking lot is closest. The parking lot gates supposedly close at 7pm though we were in there along with a lot of other cars close to 7:30pm. THE BEACH: It's very secluded due to difficult access. It's a short, steep hike up a rocky gravel trail with a gorgeous view of Big Beach at the top. The white sand beach is well protected from winds due to the volcanic cone it abuts to. The water is super clear, the sea floor has soft sand and clear of loose rocks. The view is killer! Kahoolawe, Molokini, and Lanai are in plain view. There are 2 reefs on both ends of the beach but snorkeling is not recommended. Waves are normally medium sized but can get pretty big and choppy depending on conditions. It's good for swimming and great for body/boogie boarding. There are no lifeguards or facilities of any kind. TIPS: The only restrooms are the port-a-potties near the parking lot. We were told by a good friend that when we visited Maui we MUST visit Little Beach. It's an unofficial nude beach where everyone is welcome. It's located just over a large rock "wall" on Big Beach that you hike over. Wear shoes, it can be slippery with loose stones, take your time. We saw folks snorkeling and playing on boogie boards all along the shore. The water is cool, but you get used to it. It's also a great spot to whale watch! There were people of all shapes & sizes, ages (many older folks too), a few kids, lots of couples/singles and the closet door has been taken off the hinges here. It's a wonderfully safe place to soak up the sun be exactly who you are with your tribe. There was definitely a super chill 70's hippie vibe that I absolutely loved. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a visit to Little Beach on Sunday at 4:30 PM or later is an epic, life changing experience. There's an official/unofficial drum circle that gets going sometime in late afternoon. We counted 9 or more drummers, and saw many lone dancers as well as people dancing & twirling pom poms, fire, as well as a flute player, someone balancing rocks, and even a few people selling "things". The parking lot fills up quickly, so it's best to go early, and plan for an afternoon nap in the shade. Bring along water, lunch/snacks, chairs, umbrella, towel, and lots of reef safe sunscreen. The absolute, most beautiful place I've ever been to. My partner and I were anticipating this so much, as I read many reviews, in search of the most freeing and relaxing beaches on Maui. This beach is for the free spirits, so if you aren't accustomed to nudity, it may not be for you. Clothing optional, but how could you not let go and be a fraction of the community here? One of my favorite beaches on Maui! If you feel uncomfortable or offended seeing nudists in their natural habitat, this beach may not be for you. Everyone else will absolutely love this place! It's a little trick to get to, but all you have to do is park at Big Beach and take a short walk around a bend. Super easy! Talk about the perfect blend of locals and folks visiting from all over the world. I was also surprised to find the beach to be one of the best places to see fish snorkeling on the island. The beach and water itself was absolutely stunning. However, the grown men who brought their ~3 year old son and ~10 year old daughter made us very, very uncomfortable. Watching multiple different naked men walk up and speak to a little girl sitting on the ground with their genitals in her face was not what we were expecting to see and it ruined the experience for us. You can parent however you would like, but it's disrespectful to the other adults there to bring children. While you may be ok with your children seeing people naked, not every person there wants random children to see them naked. A nude beach is an adult activity. When we were clearly uncomfortable and trying to exit, one of them asked us how we enjoyed "his" beach, leading us to believe that they regularly subject their children and other adults to this predatory behavior under the guise that they have some sort of claim to the area. Despite the other reviews saying people weren't creepy, the locals/regulars that sat next to the beach entrance were VERY creepy and openly stared at us the entire time we were there. While I wish we could say we had a great experience, the predators there ruined it for us and we won't be returning. read more

I loved this beach. Yes, it is a nude beach or "clothing optional" beach. It doesn't have a weird vibe or anything, it's just chill. You'll see people of every age, color, creed and body type frolicking on this beach. If you're as lucky as I was, you'll even see surfers surfing naked. (Something about that was very entertaining for me.) I also found it liberating to walk out butt naked in broad daylight and dive into the ocean for a refreshing dip in front of other naked people on the beach. This beach is on the back side of the beach named "Big Beach." In the Makena/Wailea area. While taking the path to big beach you just turn right and follow the path up a small rocky cliff that will lead down to little beach which looks like a scene from the blue lagoon. It's truly beautiful. I watched the sunset there one night too, and enjoyed the beauty of that nature as well. So, if you're debating on whether you want to experience this place or not.... Just do it!!! It's awesome!!! I promise you'll walk away feeling like you just walked out of the Garden of Eden. When I head back to Mau'i, I'll be frolicking Little Beach once again. Why did we wait till our last beach day to go to Little Beach? If I could do our Maui trip all over again, we would only go to this beach. This is my favorite beach of all Maui. It's clean, it's big, the waves is perfect for boogie boarding, it's clothing optional (despite the sign says no nudity) and there's a nice hiking trail along the lava rock coast. There's some shade among some trees but I highly recommend you bring a beach umbrella which you can rent for $7 a day from rental stores. You will have to pay $10 for parking and as of April 2021, you may have to pay $5 per person admission. I say "may" because we had 2 cars and 1 group was asked to pay $5 per person, while the other half of the group just left not knowing they had to pay because there were no signs. I later learned of the admission fee by asking a visitor that was staying with a local who said because it's a State Park, there's an admission fee. By the time we left the beach after 6pm, the parking attendant wasn't there for us to pay. Anyway, if you don't mind seeing nudity and you want a nice open minded beach with awesome waves for boogie boarding, this is it. One more thing, this is located to the right of Big Beach and you have to climb up a steep rocky section to get to Little Beach. There's also no restrooms or trash cans. There's porta-potties in the parking lot though and a burrito food truck too at the time we went. read more

Ah. Famous Little Beach. You will only see me passing through--WITH clothes on. But I decided I should write a review because I have been here and it IS a beautiful beach here on Maui. Ok let's get the major details out of the way: Yes, this beach is clothing optional. Most of the folks there are sporting their birthday suit. You've been warned. Don't act all awkward when you go down to check it out--It's just a body. Although it can be kind of shocking to see so many naked bodies on one medium sized beach (lol)... But it's nice that they have a place to go and be free. I personally like my cute swimsuits and want to keep them on, but hey, it takes all kinds so... The beach itself is awesome! So clear and pretty. There is some shade farther from the beach, under the kiawe trees. The earlier, the better when it comes to setting up camp this place. All the hippies, surfers and enthusiasts fill the beach up around lunch time. It gets really packed. I've only visited this beach briefly--as I'm passing through with my dog or just taking a stroll. I've heard that the Sunday night fire-dancing is awesome. There are no bathrooms here--only the porta-potties that are by the entrance. Parking here: 1st entrance at Makena State Park. Walk down the path, go right, up the semi-steep lava pathway, and down the trail to turquoise blue waters. The views of Molokini and the other islands are beautiful! FYI: There are some strange (aggressive) folks that I've seen here a few times, so ladies, please be aware of your surroundings. There are no lifeguards here and the ones at Big Beach leave at 4:30. Have fun and please act responsibly. Pick up your garbage and leave the beaches a little better than when you found them. I give this beach 4 stars because it IS awesome.. but honestly, you'll most likely find me at Big Beach. I've got teenagers and too many friends in the community. Have you ever been to Venice Beach in California. Where there are a bunch of hippes and drum dancing on the weekends. Well... this is like that but way more awesome and on MAUI. Shhh. this is also the unoffical place for naked sun bathing which is amazing!!! I was able to even out my tan lines. Its a treck to get here you have to cross big beach and climb up some cliffs and during high tide make sure not to get washed up in the waves. Other than that. Great little beach :) read more

Are you a nudist? Or are you that open-minded? Or do you like to wave your hands in the air like you just don't care? Do you want to tan where the sun doesn't shine? Then go to Little Beach! This is the world famous Nudist Beach on Maui! There, I put it out there in case you don't know what Little Beach is known for. If it's your first time at a nudist place, please don't stare. Think of it the opposite way, they could be staring at you. (Don't worry, they'll only glance at you) I find the people here very, very friendly. Seriously, the first time here, I didn't bring an umbrella with me, and I had to make friends quick. I mean, yeah, I could have worn my clothes, but why bother going to Little Beach, then? I could have stayed at Big Beach with my clothes on! When meeting naked people, eye contact is important. Don't be staring at their blank and blank. That's just rude. Anyway, there are regulars here and they know if you're just visiting, just curious, or just comfortable. I've seen families come over and hang out. They are fully accepting that there are nudists nearby. You do not have to be nude, but why it helps! Sundays are drum circle days and there's music and crafts. Kind of like Telegraph Ave is but with naked people. Other days it's usually just the regulars hanging out. If you are just checking the place out, don't think that everyone here has a hard body. Because they aren't. Everyone at Little Beach is accepting of all shapes, sizes, colors, etc. So, if you can't be accepting of the people here, do not go. How to get to Little Beach? Go to Big Beach then go all the way right to the rocks. Short little hike over the rocks, then you're at Little Beach. That's it! It's called Little Beach because it is a lot smaller than Big Beach. While it is secluded, DLNR will occasionally come by. Be prepared to put your clothes on, because it is unlawful to be nude on the beach. But that is only if DLNR is around. They'll only come around if there is some kind of disturbance. This beach doesn't get maintained, so pack out what you pack in. And if you see rubbish, please pick it up and discard at a trash can at Big Beach. read more

In case we're not clear, this isn't just a nude beach. I've been to Europe, where nude pretty much just means people laying out sans swimsuit to take in the sun. No, here it is an expression, it's freedom, it's throwing your body parts hither and tither as you play ping-pong, boogie board, run around with your dog, splash around with your lover in the ocean, all while other folks camp among the brush in the periphery, just...watching. I have to hand it to the team (and it does feel like a team, many of them know each other), they're truly uninhibited, and I did respect the trust they put in everyone around them as they displayed themselves. I tried to understand it, to get there myself, thinking maybe over time, maybe if I relax, but I never really connected to the vibe. The area is perfect, though, for those who like their beaches small and secluded and naked. The surf's great, mostly chill but capable of throwing some fun waves your way, at least while I was there. I spent longer in the water than I have anywhere in years. Sand wasn't too comfortable, lots of driftwood, and you're facing west so when the sun's on you, it's on you. I'd probably hit Big Beach next time, it's busier but really gorgeous, and maybe pop over here for a skinny dip. read more

Missed out on Woodstock you say? Well I got just the thing for you. Visit Little Beach on a Sunday and you will be in for a real treat. Dreadlocks, naked bodies, drum circles, vendors selling magic treats, pungent odors of Mary-Jane drifting the air; each Sunday Maui's hippie scene shifts to this Kihei beach gem. It is a little bit of a walk, but it sure is worth it. If you have a flashlight or headlamp bring it. The walk out over the cliff in the dark can be a little sketchy, but usually someone is up their with a torch or light guiding the path for everyone. From around 3 on the beach starts to get pretty packed. Amazing waves and an epic sunset, along with a great crowd of like-minded folks. Some people are naked, but most keep their sweet spots covered. Bring some cash and buy a treat or a beer from one of the many people selling stuff. A big drum circle that is pretty entertaining to watch goes for a few hours and as soon as it gets dark a few Fire dancers entertain the masses. This is easily one of my favorite things to do on Maui and I can't wait to return on whatever random Sunday my next trip to this Island falls on! read more

This little beach is pretty awesome. It is a beach that is just over a little "cliff" to the right of Makena main beach. Although this beach can get pretty packed during the weekends, it is really nice during the week. This is a clothing optional beach. On Sunday evenings, there is a drum circle and you will see all kinds of local flavor come out. Hippies, stoners, singles, couples, naked surfers, couples, groups, etc etc.. The water is a bit calmer here than at Big Beach. It is just as blue and warm though :) Good vibes at this beach! Check it out if you arent offended by nudists and hippies. read more

Sunday nights is the time you want to go if you want to enjoy a nude beach party with 50 ppl playing bongo at the same time, fire shows, warm beach water and see naked ppl everywhere. Of course we were naked as well and enjoyed the scene. Becareful of windy days and sand blowing in your eyes. Bring your glasses. One of the most beautiful if not the most beautiful nude beaches in the world, but most people are wearing clothes now? Seems strange that someone would hike up and over to a nude beach to sit in swimsuit when they could go to any other beach on island, including the adjacent big beach. Of course they're probably just there to gawk at the naked bodies. Lots of part time transplants from California looking for their inner child, offering to play amplified house music on turntable. Also families with preteen children. Was about half naked and half clothed. I'm absolutely in love with Little Beach in Maui & I wish we found out about this beach much sooner in our trip. To get to this beach you can enter from Big Beach and walk over but just be warned there is a little bit of a rock climb to get up to little beach so just be cautious and try not to slip. Yes, this beach is a NUDE beach with clothing optional but do not let that scare you at all. My husband and I never checked out a nude beach before so I said why not since we're celebrating our anniversary and we're in Maui for vacation so we checked it out. There's lots of space and tree's for shade to sit around and put your beach towels and stuff. There were plenty of people with clothes on and clothes off and everyone seemed so friendly here. I met 3 amazing couples here who are from CA and happened to be visiting Maui the same time and found Little Beach to be just as amazing. If you want to check it out then I highly recommend it! Go nude, don't go nude but feel free to enjoy this little gem! If I can come here every day then I would to just relax and let the day go by. read more
