Years ago, I was able to attend Literary Arts' summer festival programming, where I saw Tom Hanks and Abbi Jacobson on stage. It was so fun to see these actors-turned-authors speak about what drew them to the written word. Fast forward to today, Literary Arts has a new location on SE Grand. After finding free street parking and walking through some stinky streets, their store was a welcome destination. The space is warm and thoughtfully designed. While it's not the biggest bookstore in town, it's well stocked and is a more welcoming space to hang out in to read, work, or have a sip of coffee from their in-house cafe. These days, a lot of my reading is done via the library. But I love that they host events here for folks to meet authors or discuss topics of interest. I hope bookstores continue to stick around and act as multi-faceted community spaces more than one-note commercial operations. I'll try to do my part in supporting their mission and I'll always keep on reading!

Literary Arts is a very cool community-oriented two story indie bookstore. Their books are neatly organized with a wide variety of genres as well. There is even a coffee shop inside too!

My family and I visited Portland this summer, and we were excited to explore the city's amazing bookstore scene. Literary Arts was one of our favorite stops! The interior is spacious, bright, cozy, quiet, and organized. There are two floors to explore, as well as a cafe with comfortable seating areas that make it a great place to relax, read, work, or simply browse around. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and there was a wide variety of books to explore. I also noticed signs for workshops and author events they host. It was great to see that they serve as a hub for the local literary community. This place is a haven for book lovers -- a welcoming space that celebrates stories, creativity, and connection.

The shop was open, bright, and colorful with the lovely pastel textured backdrop. The ice cream scoop menu was super cute and offer dairy-free options as well! Street parking available and the location was great with lots of food options within walking distance. Service was so friendly and helpful and we loved the big windows all around so you can have a fun view no matter where you are sitting. They offered coffee drinks, matcha, of course chocolates and in-house baked goodies. The brownie was SO decadent without being too rich and wow the flavors had so many layers to it - honestly the best brownie I've ever had! The strawberry ice cream was creamy and made with real berries in small batches for maximum quality and flavor. Our friend got the giant macaron which was also the perfect treat without being too sweet. Please come support this amazing local business and we can't wait to come back to try more things!

Usually it gets extremely busy, but we waited 5 minutes tops for a walk-in on Sunday 7pm which is their prime time. We got the Hexxus which is more a tiki drink served in a tree trunk and ice cube with light, Redrum (you can see the other word if you spell it backwards) as a bloody themed drink with a whole smoke show which is a pricier drink. We also tried the Specimen 235 jello shot, which is presented impressively and the bartender shined UV light to enhance the presentation a bit. Honestly, for presentation, you can't go wrong with any drink, as they are quite creative with each of them. Prices are not that much higher than other bars, so this was a great experience in quality for price. Next time I would consider the Elixir Experience as it looked fun - half escape room, half mixology class with 2 drinks. But reservations for those are a lot harder and requires 1+ months notice.

Please note they allow up to 3 checks per table which is very reasonable! Service is 5 stars. Ambiance is exactly what I wanted. Everyone at the table enjoyed the decor and you can walk around to explore after you've settled your check. All the cocktails are fun and present well. This last time I tried the 3 shots they offered and highly recommend! They won't serve all 3 to 1 person at once but once you finish the first one they can bring the 3rd one out. The Jell-O shot was my favorite:) I heard the grilled cheese was very good too! Worth checking out.
