I was very disappointed with food that I ordered. The Pasta Fagioli had to be a day old because there was very little soup it was all pasta,the meatball grinder dripping with sauce,and the sauce tasted like the sauce from a tv dinner. The only thing that was good were the french fries, all the rest ended up in the garbage.Money wasted. Their impossibly huge menu tends to favor Italian dishes but there isn't a shortage of options from appetizers, pizzas, sandwiches, entrees (including veal, chicken and fish). There's a lot of creativity (Mashed Potato, Bacon and Sour Cream - White Pizza, Shrimp Scampi Pizza, Broccoli Rabe and Sausage Pizza, Grilled Scampi Chicken, Mushrooms, Bacon and Jack Cheese Sub, Panecotto, Stuffed Eggplant Parmigiana) as well as a unique Two for Tuesdays Menu that changes every week. What's Two for Tuesdays? Lisa Gargano of North Haven and John Hurylovich of Stratford are the brains and soul of the place which also offers catering. They also deliver although I'm not sure what the distance limitation is on that. By limiting their offerings to pure takeout they limit their customers to people who already have somewhere to eat but don't have the time, equipment or talent to prepare excellent food. That means that in order to continue in business they have to be able to do it so well that you would rather get your food from them and provide your own setting, clean up etc. than go to an eat-in place. If that doesn't tell you how committed they are to an excellent product, I don't know what could. This is a serious takeout restaurant with a fun and interesting menu. I've had food delivered from here and each time I try something new, I'm always severely disappointed. I've had the broccoli garlic pasta and it tasted like water. Zero flavor. Then I tried their margarita pizza, it was so sad. The "fresh mozz" was burned, the sauce flavorless, there was literally 4 burnt shriveled basil leaves, and the bread was soggy. And there toppings are 2$ each! Outrageous! The garlic bread that comes with the meals, is just bread with a small dribble of butter right down the middle of the bread. Again, no flavor. This place is awesome! I ran a group for expectant Moms at Bridgeport Hospital, and I called late that evening beforehand, not sure of whether they could still accomodate us. They were very nice and helpful. The food arrived on time, and even the driver was very nice! The food was delicious. Who knew something as simple as baked ziti and meatballs could taste so good. Great takeout, especially on "Two for Tuesday" where you get two entrees (my favorites are the Shrimp Marinara (had 8 juicy JUMBO shrimp) over linguine or spaghetti (linguine was delicious). The Tuesday deal is $22.95 for two entrees, two soups or small garden salads and two desserts. Cheesecake was really good, carrot cake was a bit too sweet for me though my husband loved it. Peach pie was also good. You can count on generous portions at Lisa's--for me, leftovers are the norm (yay next-day lunch) , unless you are a lumberjack or hungry teenager. While I especially like the seafood selections, vodka penne is another favorite, also chicken picatta. The pizza was the only Lisa item that I wouldn't recommend--it was flavorless and tasted like frozen stuff. It wasn't BAD, just tasted like something from Stop & Shop's frozen food aisle. We used Lisa's Takeout to cater a 50th anniversary party. The food was phenomenal! We had over 50 people at the party and everyone raved about how delicious everything was. They described the chicken franchise as "melt in your mouth tender". And my personal favorite was the Penne Ala vodka. The BEST i have ever had! Other favorites were the Stratford Salad, the chicken Marsala and the eggplant rollatini. Food was abundant, fresh and piping hot when we arrived to pick it up. I would highly recommend! Very, very disappointed... I ordered a take-out dinner and it was very short on food . Half my eggplant wasn't sent for my eggplant parmigiana. just a container of pasta and sauce and my order of pasta and clam sauce was fair. I believe if we had eaten in the restaurant , the presentation and food would have been different because they know I can send it back to the kitchen. What I will say is this is where I had began my career in the dish pit where the owner and chef allowed me to learn and grow. I think the quality of the hard work and organization that I learned here is obvious in the product and service that they provide. I will also say that Monday and Tuesday nights beat ANY DEAL IN TOWN!!! You will be hard pressed to find a better takeout only and catering joint in any American suburb. The one thing I will say about the food is that I eat there after having worked there. If anybody has worked in a restaurant, you know that's saying something about flavor and cleanliness.
