Thomas P Rafferty, DDS - Crown 1. Filed down to metal and doesn't resemble a tooth

Before visiting Dr. Rafferty, I read online reviews. Although I came across two concerning reviews…read morefrom other sites, I chose to proceed based on the numerous positive testimonials on his website. Regrettably, my experience was far from satisfactory. I initially sought treatment after breaking off part of a tooth, upon which Dr. Rafferty recommended a crown. Crown #1: During the appointment, despite expressing concerns that my bite was way off at least five times, my feedback was disregarded. Consequently, the crown was significantly oversized and had no appearance of a natural tooth. I was told that the misalignment issues would resolve within 24 hours, but they persisted, leading to unbearable pain, inability to sleep or eat solid food. The earliest follow-up appointment was 5 days later. Dr. Rafferty made the necessary adjustments to recover my bite but the finish was filed off resulting in a rough surface with metal exposed through the porcelain which looked even worse than before (see photos). Seeking a second opinion confirmed the necessity for replacement, which Dr. Rafferty agreed to, albeit with significant discomfort and post-removal pain. Crown #2: The second crown looked good but suffered a fracture upon placement. I mentioned the crack sound it made when being installed, but was told it was fine. When I got home, I took a good look and saw that the crown had cracked completely in two, requiring yet another visit for removal and replacement. Crown #3: While the third crown initially appeared promising with both look and fit, it dislodged just two days after installation without so much as eating on that side. An additional visit was needed to re-install the crown but it required further adjustment due to the increased height from the new layer of cement. The filing adjustment caused the outer smooth finish to be further removed resulting in a rough top. The entire ordeal entailed extensive travel to Dr. Rafferty's office as I live an hour away. I anticipated 4 hours travel, but it totaled 14 hours with additional expenses. Beyond the physical discomfort and pain, the experience lasted for over a month and caused incredible anxiety. Although Dr. Rafferty displayed willingness to address issues, the repeated complications and resultant distress highlight a concerning lack of precision and expertise in the treatment process. I hope my experience helps someone else make an informed decision.

I had a cleaning appt. at Herzog Dental Care (HDC) yesterday and Amy was my hygienist. I've been…read moregoing to HDC for about 5 years and have found this dental practice to be exceptional. As a 58 year old I can tell you that I've seen my share of dentists and they are not all the same. HDC was recommended to me by a friend and after a couple of visits my wife and children made the switch to. Amy was outstanding BTW, very professional, experienced and knowledgeable. I honestly hate going to the dentist (nothing personal Dr. Herzog) but when you need dental work look no further than Herzog Dental Care.

The Most Unprofessional and Disrespectful Dental Office I've Ever Experienced…read more I was a loyal patient here for over 25 years and brought them countless referrals -- until I saw how they truly operate. When you pay cash or have private insurance, they treat you like royalty. The moment you switch to MassHealth, the tone completely changes. The warmth disappears, appointments become difficult, and suddenly you're made to feel like a burden instead of a patient. After my father passed away, I missed one appointment -- and even after providing proof of his death, they still charged me $50. When I refused to pay on principle, they decided to "part ways" with my entire family. That says everything about their values. What really turned my stomach was that the staff and even the dentist personally spoke to me about other patients in extremely unprofessional ways -- mocking people's dental problems and making degrading comments about those who couldn't afford certain treatments. That's not just unethical, it's a complete breach of patient trust and privacy. They once pretended they no longer accepted MassHealth, but when I later called to confirm, the receptionist said they absolutely still do. That kind of dishonesty tells you all you need to know about their character. This office built a fortune on loyal patients and referrals, then turned around and disrespected the very people who helped them grow. They value money over integrity, and image over compassion. If you want to be treated with dignity and honesty, go anywhere else. There are plenty of dentists who understand that health care is about people, not profit.

Exceptionally skilled and displaying a genuine empathy, personal attention, and sensitivity towards her patients, I am utterly at ease in the chair and reliably leave looking and feeling brand new. Dano Dental Arts manages to elevate the experience of a dentist visit, ordinarily an anxious chore, to that of a luxury spa. From routine to emergency to cosmetic treatments, Dr Dano provides the latest that dental science has to offer. In stark contrast to so many other dental practices, there is never any upselling of unnecessary procedures. In any situation, I trust Dr Dano to pursue the *right* course and correctives, not the most expedient or the most profitable. The difference in my oral health and appearance before and after is as stark as the difference between her practice and others. I won't go to anyone else.
