If you're visiting the Lake Martin area, and are in need of some wine, slip by Emporium Wine. Henry does a great job of having some of the more popular labels, plus a couple that you might like to try after his recommendations. He also keeps lots of good beer on hand that you won't find in the corner grocery, plus cigars. I don't smoke them but those who do tell me it's a good selection. Henry also has some paintings and framed photography from some local artists. He's located downtown in a beautiful old refurbished building. Worth a stop, especially if you are coming to the lake from Birmingham. Downtown is not far from 280, so it won't take you long.

Charred Oak offers a wide selection of quality beer, wine, and liquor, the latter for especially when you don't want to drive over to the ABC Store from the area, or for when it's a pesky Sunday. The store didn't have a particular brand of wine that was the object of a hunt, but the guy suggested Publix, and he was right on. The liquor prices are higher than what you'd find at the ABC Store, but you can leave knowing you've supported a local business which is always a warm feeling.
