Being from California I find that it is weird in Kansas that you can't buy liquor from a regular market. Or even Wal-Mart. You have to go to a separate store that only sells liquor. Oddly, you can't buy water at these liquor stores, only liquor. Oh, and the other f'ed up thing is that you can't buy alcohol on Sundays. Some law from back in the day. If you want booze on Sunday your ass had to drive across state line to Missouri. I like my booze, but not that much. The Liquor Locker has your essentials. They don't carry everything you need. I always liked buying from this establishment when I was in town to visit family. COVID changed that. My mother died of COVID, and I was in Emporia to lay her to rest, clean out her home and put it on the market. I stopped into this liquor store that has a "face masks required" sign on the front door. Yet, customers were coming and going without masks, and the clerk (owner?) was not even wearing a mask. I heard someone in town say that if they try to enforce the masks, the customer will throw a fit, thus scaring off the other customers. Wrong answer! There are plenty of us customers who do want you to enforce the mask policy. And, we will patronize those stores that will! read more

Today I went into the store with my husband; this is the only place in town where we buy liquor. I'm 23 years old, and my husband is 25, the guy we usually see must not work there anymore because we went in last week to buy a bottle of wine, and they asked for our IDs my husband didn't have him, I showed mine. The woman did not throw a fit that my husband didn't have his. I asked her about the new liquor they had, and if she liked it; overall, it wasn't a bad place to go. I went in today at 7:30 pm same lady. We got the case of wine coolers and got ID again, which is fine, but the lady recognized I was there the week before. This time my husband showed his ID, and she asked me, and I said I forgot mine. She said, "you can't touch anything," and glared at me. I was so uncomfortable I left and was very upset. She basically kicked me out, now the nice girl in front of us didn't have to show an ID, and my husband didn't have to show his last time. Will not return again, and highly disappointed. read more

I really like this store, they are always so nice and helpful. I shopped today in Emporia t the hardware store, and the thrift and grocery store, in ALL the staff and most customers wore masks. In this store NO ONE working there did, and they were busy. One of their employees was loading the refrigerated case by the front door, not wearing a mask, and she must not have heard me when I asked her to move, I had to squeeze by. I DON'T want to get that close to someone who is not wearing a mask. Do you? Count me as an ex customer..with the Delta variant surging, what is up with you people? Very disappointed and angry that they don't seem to care about their customers. read more

Great selection, on all kinds of alcohol, Very helpful staff and super friendly. If they don't have it they will special order just for you within 2 or three days. So if you want a special order for a special occasion just let them know and they will have it ready for you for your special day. read more
