A lovely little tearoom located on the banks of the union Canal. Prices are very reasonable and boats trips are also here.

Strathclyde Park can either be awesome or depressing, depending of course on what you want from it;…read morequiet walking/exercise green space or amusement park holiday destination for kids. I like to go early mornings to walk the dog when it is quiet and you only have the odd jogger and the ducks in sight. I'm not sure the actual distance round the perimeter - 3 miles I think so not bad if you fancy getting a decent bit of exercise. The park also hosts Parkrun on a Saturday morning for semi-competitive folks. The boat house (loads of water sports options available) cafe is also a nice stop off point for a quick refreshment and there is plenty of green space as well as a small beach to chill out and eat some home packed grub. I tend to avoid school holidays and any time after midday as the park sits right next to M&Ds amusement park and can become a bit of a nedfest but to be honest I'm probably just being overly judgmental. Busy crowds just ain't my thing. Definitely deserving of four stars as it really is a lovely part of Scotland and a nice wee escape from the town-y environs of EK, Hamilton and Motherwell.

'Strathy Park'. It's…read morereally really nice and great for running or cycling around, especially during the summer months where this place really livens up with families having picnics, dads showing kiddies how to skip stones in the water and lots of littering from youths, just to keep everything in balance. There's some great swings and such for children and the childlike alike and it's on the site of M & D's which has a good indoor centre with arcade games, bowling and pool which can help make a day of coming here. The rides in the theme park themselves are a bit of a let down. Watch where you park your car at night, as there have been reports of 'doggers'!

My dad has a real talent of talking me and my sisters into some horrendous boat-related activities…read more He's a boat lover and a fisherman at heart (though thankfully not for a living...) and he jumps at any chance to get out on the great, blue sea. Me, on the other hand? I hate boats. And the sea. And fish. The last boat trip I went on ended in a rather unpleasant incident involving vomit and dolphins. More specifically, vomiting onto them. Poor little unsuspecting fellows. So, when my dad batted his eyelids and asked if I wanted to take a boat trip to the Isle of May over the weekend, I was less than impressed. That being said, it was a glorious day in Scotland and, bless him, my dad was mega keen, so off we went, down to the Anstruther harbour to board the boat. The boat can fit about 100 people on and, much to my relief, you're not handed any form of life-jacket when boarding, which relaxed me into the realisation that this was not going to be a rough ride. The staff were very friendly and - dare I say it - I actually quite enjoyed the boat trip there and back. The seats were comfy and dry, there was plenty of space for everyone and there was even a nice little cafe/bar so people could eat and drink along the way. The journey took about 50 minutes on the way there and a little less on the way back. At no point did I fear for my life or feel like I was about to hurl which, frankly, makes the journey automatically much better than the majority of other boat trips I have been on. The Isle of May itself is a wonder! So beautiful and a a bird-lover's paradise. We were left there for about 2-3 hours, which was ample time to explore and walk around the small island. If you haven't visited then do! Even as someone who's not massively interested in birds, there was plenty to see. There were lovely views and we even spotted a few seals along the way! All in all, it was a great day out - a little adventure just a stones throw away from home. Don't be put off by the boat journey! It was really calm and very enjoyable. This company obviously know their stuff!
