Found these at Tjmaxx and they were delicious! Wish they had a store around here. I had to hide the rest so the kids don't finish them

So you know that hackneyed saying, 'Like a kid in a candy store'?…read more Whoever said it first was probably talking about Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe. Yeah, it's a franchise. No, I haven't ever seen another one other than this one in Colchester. And, really, Colchester is the perfect place for a 'Ye Olde' candy shop, so I'm going to pretend that it's the one-and-only. Situated on a very quaint and medieval-looking lane, Mr Simms jumps out at kids and adults alike, with its dark brown wooden façade and recreated 'olde worlde' windows that allow passers-by to peer in and gawk at the floor-to-ceiling rows upon rows of delicious, sugary delights, with classic and newfangled sweets equally represented. Whether you pick out individually packaged fudge from the self-service shelves or ask for a staff member to measure you out half a kilo of gummy bears and three snakes from the candy hoard behind the counter, you'll leave this place with enough child-like, sugar-induced euphoria to get you through to next week. Or, at least through to the end of your sugar rush.

That's your pit stop.

Hooray Monica R - we agree on the spelling! Well, you can imagine this shop right at the end of the Willy Wonka factory tour. Rows upon rows of clear jars containing old style sweets. The assistants are happy to advise and offer little tastings. Your choice of goodies are packaged in retro style paper bags to take away and share. Whether you're looking for some nostalgia about the sweets you grew up with or to discover some new taste sensation, Mrs Kibble's is definitely worth a visit.

But they also had a nice assortment of teas. It made a great place to pick up a gift for my wife, who is an avid tea-lover. The staff there was also quite pleasant which made the visit all the more enjoyable. The only downside I noted was that it was a small shop. The Sunday afternoon I was there, it was quite crowded and difficult to navigate because of the number of bodies inside. But the end result was worth the effort.

Once you enter this old-fashioned sweet shop, you will find it hard to leave. Apart from shelves full of all sorts of sweets from around the world, the main attraction is the counter laden with fudge. There are so many types and flavours of fudge on offer, that it's hard to choose. I usually end up leaving this shop with many paper bags containing small amounts of different flavours. I can vouch they are all delicious and you'll probably be back for more. :) There are also jars of jams, marmalades, curds as well as hard candy on offer. My only complaint is that the service tends to be a bit slow. Overall, a nice little shop full of sweet treats for children and adults alike.

They stock every kind of sweet imaginable from hotel chocolat style chocolate bars, bricks and truffles to popping candy, penny sweets, lollipops, boiled sweets, nougat, raisins... if it belongs in a sweet shop, you will find it here. There are often queues of children lurking around, eyes wide with pleasure at the vast shelves full of treats that await them! Such treats come at a price. I'm not sure whether I remember penny sweets as correctly being a penny when I was a child (i think some of them had migrated to two pence by then!) but it is a tad expensive.
