The father who opened the restaurant 40 years ago even came out to say hello. After all the other lukewarm hospitality at the other restaurants in the city, this place was like coming home. This is not to downplay the food--delicious appetizers, cous-cous, great wine (a bottle of red served too cold as I guess they do there, but we warmed it up) followed by a plate of sumptuous Mediterranean dessert pastries. I would buy a box of cigkogte which comes with all the greens & lavash and make your own wrap. If you are in the mood to skip the typical falafal wrap and try something new go for it! As a side note- 'Cig Kofte' (CHEE' kuf-TAY') is classic Turkish-style steak tartar, is made with very high quality, fat-free beef that is minced and kneaded together with fine bulgur, pepper and tomato paste, onion, garlic and a mixture of Turkish spices. It's a regional dish from the southeastern part of Turkey with a lot of history behind it. BUT this is all vegetarian and today many Cigkoftes are made this way due to higher health awareness. The restaurant was comfortable, warm, and inviting. The food menu was excellent, as was the beverage menu. We enjoyed steak tartar, filet, and sea bream over sweet potato gnocchi, with a unique cheesecake dessert. A gin and tonic with dried limes and a pairing with a crisp Chardonnay complemented our meal. The staff was friendly and accommodating. After a long trip that day, the meal at Zum Ochsen was welcomed.

We were staying in Stroudsburg and decided to look for a German restaurant. Little did we know that…read morewe would end up in Germany at this little place.(only 7 miles from the Hilton!). We wondered in late and asked if they were still serving food. There was only one other table occupied and they were having drinks so I know they made an exception for us. I had the schnitzel and my wife had the chicken special. Both were excellent. Sides were great. The best part is trying to decipher the menu and order. Our waitress did her best to translate since menus are only available in German. This is what makes travel so fun! After a few beers and some laughter, we wrapped it up and headed back to France. Now we can tell everyone that we had breakfast in Paris, lunch in Stroudsburg, and dinner in Baden, Germany.
