I did forward my letter to the State of Massachusetts Department of Public Health to put the State on notice of my concerns. Decisions for rehabs are made quick and availability can be limited, question the hospitals and use your network for recommendations.

Dad has been living at Nevins for a year now. It's been a difficult transition for him as it would…read morebe for anyone, but he has more of a social life here than he ever had alone at home. For his children, we know he is safe, fed, warm and clean. Things that were very uncertain when he lived alone. Since he has been at Nevins, he has gained weight and is receiving the daily care he requires. He has his favorite helpers of course and everyone is very patient with him, even when he's surly. A nurse keeps an eye on his medical needs, reviewing his medical records and making sure family knows when he needs to schedule appointments outside the facility based on his needs. One of us is his medical proxy and is in contact with the nurse regularly. Another takes care of the financial business. We had a telephone installed in his room. We brought in a small TV, dresser, bedside table and lamp from home. We provided him with a walker and staff make sure he uses it! His walls are slowly being decorated with photographs and other personal items. We use the removable type of hanger for these items. His roommate gave him a recliner because he 'never uses it'. So the room is personal to the resident. The hospital bed and a small chair are the only items left original to the room. A private sink, toilet and two closets are also in the shared room. In the past year he hurt himself once while in the bathroom alone and damaged the skin on his arm. The nurse bandaged him up and called us immediately to let us know. Of course we all visited and talked to him to be sure he's safe. He wasn't happy to have to admit his folly. His pride was hurt more than his arm. The wound took some time to heal, as is common in older persons (he's in his 90's). Staff kept a good eye on the progress, kept the dressing clean, scheduled the resident doctor to take a look and advise on treatment and it healed nicely. Over the year we have built relationships with the staff. When we feel something in the facility is being over looked we speak with the facility director. When dad has a physical complaint we speak with the nurse and so on. There is always someone we can reach out to and have a discussion with about dad's care and living condition. He is allowed visitors any time and he often has family visiting. Daily menus have several items for each meal with daily available items plus rotating additions. And of course, there is always dessert. The staff know his habit now and just stop in to verify if he wants the same items or to try something new. They deliver the meals to his room and also make sure he drinks the Ensure his doctor recommends. He also always has a beverage of his choice available between meals. He purchases personal snacks he keeps in his room in a plastic bin. Residents can choose to eat meals in the common area where there are tables set up. Each afternoon one activity takes place in the common area where there are books, a TV and other self directed activities available. Many residents just 'hang out' with each other or 'visit' other rooms to say 'hi'. Services he receives include help in the restroom when requested, arranging rides to appointments, washing and dressing daily, housekeeping, meals and medicines are given to him daily as needed a/o prescribed. They offer laundry services for a fee and all his clothing are labeled by us. He also gets his hair cut for a fee in the on site salon and he has an in-house account set up for this. He provides personal care items such as shaving cream, skin cream, denture cream, etc. Those are not provided. A single page 'newsletter' is delivered to his room daily with tidbits of information like who's birthday it is (famous person) and what happened on this date in previous years, etc. as well as menu and activity of the day. The public areas are decorated for all holidays and during the Christmas holiday they had a sing-along that he very much enjoyed. We work with a third party company for Medicaid approval and stay in touch with their billing office to keep them 'in the loop. The process is lengthy and full of forms. Hiring this outside company has been a real blessing to our peace of mind and allows dad to be safe and well cared for in a way that none of his ageing children could possibly provide.

My grandmother's wallet was found in the TRASHCAN first before it was moved to the dresser which was ransacked and messed up. The very fragile pictures (all that was in the wallet aside from a dollar and some change which was stolen, I'll get back to this). The photographs were scattered and shoved in the drawer bent and damaged. The money was stolen. Nevin's, one question do you not pay your staff enough that they have to steal from the dead? When I brought this up to the nurse and ask what happened I was told that it didn't happen on " her shift" so she can't speak for it and I can TRY to contact administration because they won't contact me. It wasn't until I threated to call Elder Services (which I did) that they took my name and number for administration to call me. I WILL be calling this administration. DO NOT BRING YOUR FAMILY HERE. THEY LIE AND STEAL.

I've had physical therapy in the past and this place by far is the best place. Vinnie and Mike blew me away with how much they knew about the neck and back and knew exactly what I'm going through with my pinch nerve. They made me feel at ease even if I had a stupid question to ask LOL. They couldn't of been nicer and friendlier courteous they gave me a ton of exercises I can do at home. I find myself getting better every week now thanks to them. I would highly recommend them Especially Vin and Mike and KC. They gave me the motivation and care to get better. Thank you .

Do your patients a favor stop taking workmans comp. and screwing those of us who were hurt and need to get better. You were just another part of this awful nightmare!!!
