After reading a decisively negative review of another PCI location, I felt compelled to balance out…read morethe universe a bit. Porter and Chester Institute was a school that came along right when I needed it. After attending a university for three years and having the worst time of my life, I stumbled across PCI in my hometown of Stratford, CT. Having loved computers my whole life, their computers and networking course seemed right up my alley. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable and friendly (big shout outs to Robert Sommer and Arthur Calabrese). The school itself had a welcoming environment--every day I was there I felt at home. Lectures were informative and evenly paced. Students who needed a bit more help received it, while those that were more advanced were allowed to move on to more complex subjects. Everyone was given a fair chance at PCI. In all honesty, the only people who didn't succeed were those who failed to put in the effort. I don't mean to speak for anyone else, and I know the course proved a bit too much for some, but all in all, if you put in the time and effort you were rewarded in the end. Easy? No. But nothing worth doing ever is. I'll always look back at PCI with fondness. The school says once a student, always a student, and it's very true. Even now I'll swing by to say hi and I'm met with nothing but warm welcomes. PCI is a for-profit business, make no mistake...but, in my experience at the Stratford, CT campus, they were one that actually gave a damn about their students. Whereas my former university would call me out of class just to yell at me for a bill that was not yet late, PCI always made sure my education came first. I highly recommend this school to anyone looking for a career in computers and networking (or other fields such as automotive and HVAC). If you're willing to put in the effort and listen to the instructors, you won't regret it. I'm currently working as a network technician with a promising career ahead of me. Thanks PCI!

As a former student in this LPN program, I was deeply disappointed with my experience due to the…read moreunprofessional conduct of an instructor named Ms. Dsane. When students raised concerns about incorrect information presented in class, instead of being supported, they were dismissed by Ms. Dsane and Ms. Wallace. This lack of support resulted in multiple students failing an exam. In fact, the school made it abundantly clear that not all of us will succeed in this program, while other schools, in contrast, instilled in us a sense of motivation, assuring us that we will all make it and graduate. Reminder this is a FOR-PROFIT SCHOOL. Ms. Dsane also made demeaning and inappropriate remarks toward students, creating a hostile learning environment. She even referred to us as "slow learners." She even made inappropriate physical contact with students, which we were required to maintain a safe distance from. One incident involved her touching me as if I were her child, touching my hair, shoulders, and rubbing my back. I had to step away, and when I confronted her, she became angry and started lowering my grades to the lowest points in the class. Since she liked to lower grades for each assignment, I confronted her about her bias, and I was automatically dismissed from the program. She (Dsane) has also used my personal stethoscope, which I purchased, inside her ears. I felt uncomfortable using it and eventually had to sanitize it frequently. She did this multiple times, grabbing it from me as if it were hers during lab and clinical. She even referred to the school stethoscopes that they provided as not good, claiming that mine is the best one. Dsane had a habit of eavesdropping and inserting herself into private conversations. She would consistently sour the mood by turning positive topics into negative ones. It was a constant struggle to remain professional and avoid a confrontation, as she frequently overstepped personal and social boundaries. The instructor (Dsane) frequently exhibits an unprofessional temperament that disrupts the learning environment. When frustrated, she resorts to slamming doors, audible teeth-sucking, and a dismissive attitude toward the class. She often ignores students' questions or gives rude, short answers. She also stays angry at certain students for a long time. She talks about the same student all week and even calls the rest of us by that student's name by mistake. Dsane would share personal information about each other in the classroom, such as telling each other why one student was absent from the email they sent to her and sharing how much time is left for each individual in the classroom. This would make us feel ashamed and embarrassed instead of discussing it in private. During our clinicals and class discussions, we're supposed to share what we've learned, but Ms. Dsane makes it very difficult to engage. She's constantly on her phone and barely acknowledges what anyone is saying beyond a distracted 'uh-huh.' I even tried to pull her into the conversation by asking her questions and checking if she could hear me, but she just ignored me and kept scrolling. It feels very unprofessional and disrespectful, especially since it happens every single day. However, she would become visibly angry if a student turned their back to her, resulting in an immediate disciplinary write-up. After agreeing to leave the program, I left one of my workbooks that I purchased there to one of the students to borrow. When I requested it back from the school, they automatically ghosted my calls and emails, so I got the police involved. They didn't want to look bad to the public, and it's not the student's fault because the administration failed to notify her on my request and I didn't have the student's contact information. The school needs better oversight to ensure that students are treated with respect and dignity.
