First of all, the owner was super rad, and we talked for probably about an hour. She was super personable and told me about how she came to open the store. Her dog, a gorgeous black Lab named Zoe, kept coming up for love rubs and giving me her toys. The store was curated with such great finds. Lots of cool, pristine, vintage finds and some new home decor thrown in as well. It was the best of both worlds. She certainly has an eye for design flair (I guess she also helps with interior design). I loved the mid century sofa she had on display- it was in perfect condition and a great price. There is a candle- just one candle - that smells amazzinng. It's their "signature" Pentwater scent. Just walk into the store, and you'll be like "what is that?!" Yeah; two of those came home with me. I ended up piling stuff on the counter and then mentioned I didn't know how I was going to pack it all in my luggage. She took the time to wrap everything well and put some things in boxes to protect it during my trip back to Cali. I love supporting independent, local businesses mostly because I own one myself. I know what it takes to make something like this work, and it's not easy. I give props to the owner for creating such an inviting and cute boutique where customer service is obviously the main staple of the business. I caught a negative review on here, which shocked me. HOWEVER, let it be known...I'm not sure I have ever been in a more bizarrely unwelcoming and aggressively hostile shop. I have traveled all over the world...and certainly all over Michigan...and no shop has ever had more security cameras, rules posted, and snarky, rude negative employees. It is so off-putting I do my best to avoid it. For a tourist village, this shop is actively making it known they don't care about welcoming customers and they are clearly maniacally paranoid. Enter at your own risk. Are the candles pleasant? Yes. But it's not worth the experience you are forced to go through to make a purchase.

What's up with this skewed mentality. Yelpers like to share and spread theirs experiences to other yelpers, that's all we aim to do with taking photos and sharing in our experiences. On the other side of the store, I went to check out with my items and two employees (both named June) were having an intense conversation about one of them quitting. We stood at the counter for at least 30 seconds before they even acknowledged us. When they did, they acted very irritated that we were trying to check out with our products and interrupted their conversation. One of the June's said "what do you want?" When we we told her we would like to check out, she huffed as us and said "well? What do you have?" The lack of professionalism and self awareness was astounding. Our hope was to support small businesses but after this experience, we will not be coming back or spending money with this business again. 0/10.
