Shanghai Garden Chinese Restaurant - Spicy Pork

Not your average menu here at Shanghai Garden. Along with…read morethe standard Chinese (Cantonese) food, Shanghai Garden also have a range of slightly westernised Szechuan style food for those that are more adventurous. We sampled a nice range from Crispy Fried Duck (in batter) to Kong Pao Chicken and Chilli laden pork ribs and cumin spiced lamb. All in all a very good feed of some out of the ordinary Chinese Food.

Just went to this restaurant, had been serving good food until today. There were different staff…read moreand thought that there might be a change in management. We ordered the tea duck as usual. We ate half (mostly breast), seems normal. When we get to the leg part, we realised many whitish lumps imbedded in the meat. I picked some off to see what they were - they look tumourous or cancerous. Got to be fair, I am not 100% sure. Please refer to the photo attached - can't attach photo!!!!! I notified the waitress right away, who talked to the chef in the kitchen. She came back and said they are normal and certified by the supplier. The kitchen didn't even bother to take a look at it. It only shows me that they knew and served it anyway. I told her to show it to the kitchen, she came out and said they are only lymphatic notes. It was nothing wrong with the duck. They really thought that we are ignorant and dumb. We eat poultries all the time and my husband family had a Chinese/ Vietnamese restaurant for over 30 years. Tell me, have you seen prominent lymph notes like this in the legs and thoughts. We know what normal duck meat looks like. For the whole incident, no apologies from any staff, charged us for this duck dish, gave us 10% off for serving what they called diseased ducks, which is potentially harmful to our health. Such a disgrace! What a shame! The kitchen knew when cutting the duck up, but still shamelessly decided to serve the duck to us. It is unforgivable. They didn't own up the mistake, made up excuses, no apologies given and had us paid for a dish that we can't eat. Very disappointing.

This is one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants. The food is absolutely fabulous and…read moreflavoursome and it is unashamedly good value. Where else can you get a banquet for two people for $22 and not be able to eat it all. This includes spring rolls, cold rolls, three main courses and tea/coffee. The restaurant is cheery but daggy; like a lounge room from the 70's, complete with aquarium. However, all the locals know it well and it is always busy. The salt and pepper prawns and the chili, lemongrass chicken are my pick of the dishes and the reason I go there. Oh, and I nearly forgot, they do the best deserts, especially the fried ice cream. The service, while friendly, is very slow and I have been known to wave my arms around madly to get the waiters to look over. Tip: If ordering for big groups place the order on the notes of your iphone and give it to them - they love this!

My best picks of the menu are the really great cold rolls with loads of mint (like proper cold rolls) and the hotpot. There is a really pretty fish tank as you walk in on the left and leads into a reasonably spacious, yet intimate setting. They have a joint Vietnamese and Chinese menu, providing a range of choices from both cultures. Offers a range of vegetarian dishes and all menu items are relatively inexpensive compared to some of its competitors in the City.

I must say this is probably some of the most amazing Chinese food I have ever eaten…read more The decor of the restaurant is modern asian and very decadent. Service fairly quick however a few language issues did occur. I was enjoying it too much to take photos... but some things the four of us ordered were: * Crispy Golden Prawn Ball Dumpling ($9.5) -served w/ Sweet Chilli Sauce (3) - Probably the most boring part of the meal. * Traditional Peking Duck - ($65) Whole Duck 16 Pancakes [for 3-4p] - Just Delicious! Wonderful :) * Chicken Black Peppercorn ($19.5) - The chicken was unbelievably tender, fresh and brilliantly flavoured. I believe that was all I can recall as it was a few months ago but gosh it was an amazing meal - well done Lychie :)

This restaurant is in a large well utilised space. It looked fantastic and felt warm and inviting…read more Staff were extremely profession yet still came across and nice and friendly. The waiter told us it was an award winning restaurant (with trip advisor ) which set expectation high from the start. So we shared and ordered from the entree menu. First San chow bow which was nice but mine was a little over filled and therefore I couldn't roll it properly so it dripped. But was yummy. King prawn dumplings where really nice. We had 2 each. I quite liked these however they had been drizzled with chilli oil which we both found too too hot. It spoiled the dish really. Soft shell crab was perfectly delicious. Except also drizzled with the chilli oil really people? We want to taste the food. My friend was perfectly happy at this point I however was a little underwhelmed. Dessert made up for it. Banana fritters with ice cream and caramel drizzled around. Oh yes! We topped that off with a shot of kalua each and a fortune cookie. Fortune cookie tasted fabulous, my fortune message? Yeah not really happy with that. I liked it here. Others had ordered sizzling meals and we could smell them it was a Devine aroma. Just not good to inhale the fumes of chilli oil too deeply. If your not into chilli hotness might be best to let them know here.
