I came to Berlin for the first time this month, and the Mall of Berlin was a quick walk from my…read morehotel. I stopped at Zara and purchased five items using the self-checkout. I placed my items on the scanner, entered my phone number, tapped my card, signed, and completed the transaction. Since my cell service has been spotty while traveling, my e-receipt didn't come through immediately. As I walked out, the security detectors went off and an incredibly aggressive security guard approached me. I tried explaining that I had paid and was simply waiting for the receipt to come through, but he would barely let me speak and repeatedly insisted that I had not purchased the items. He then threatened to call the police. What bothered me most was that a female Zara employee tried telling him that she had SEEN me pay, and he responded by telling her, "I'm not talking to you. Stop talking and allow me to do my job." He then brought over a male employee, who confirmed the exact same thing: I HAD PAID. Thankfully, my e-receipt finally came through and proved the purchase. The security guard didn't apologize or show even the slightest acknowledgment that he had handled the situation poorly. I wasn't expecting some grand apology, but basic professionalism and a little humility would have gone a long way. The male employee, on the other hand, was extremely understanding and even gave me some advice about shopping while in Germany, which I appreciated. My advice to other travelers: if you opt in for an e-receipt, make sure it has actually arrived before leaving the store, especially if your cell service is unreliable. And Zara/Mall of Berlin: security is one thing, but treating a paying customer like a criminal while store employees are actively telling security that they watched the customer pay is completely unnecessary. I hope the security guard has a terrible day.

I wish I had money to buy all the bio clothing and toys for my kid, but I don't, so it's mostly just window shopping on my part. What I like about Dollyrocker is that they make a lot of their stuff, and they use recycled material to do it. As a result, you don't see the same old stuff that every other children's clothing store has. They also carry some brands I hadn't seen before in other shops, which is nice because it adds a bit of variety to the scene. I ended up picking up a super cute bib for my kid and it was fairly reasonably priced as well! If you're in the area and in search of some cute and unique clothing for your kid, give this place a shot.

It's just a bit past where all the magic happens along Hulfendstr....so it's tucked away. Keep walking just a quarter block past the market and Kaffe Raum, and you'll be in for quite a treat. From what I can gather the mix within the store seems to be: *New/handmade Children's clothing. *New/handmade purses and accessories *Used/Vintage/Secondhand Women's Clothing. Obviously, I came for the latter portion of the festivities...women's clothing! The items are all meticulous, as evidenced by the owner steaming all the new garments while I was in there before they were to be put out on the racks. They are all categorized, color coded, pristine. Tags easily identifiable. This is a very orderly shop with an expansive dressing room. I managed to find a beautiful DKNY camel/navy striped sweater dress I couldn't live without...especially given that it became fall overnight. It looks brand new, price = 48 euros. Not exactly a steal, but surely worth it for the condition it is in. I'll venture to guess I'll get a lot of wear out of it...in fact, I am wearing it RIGHT NOW. A very lovely shop if you are in the area, highly recommended while you're out reveling in Prenzlauer Berg. And for you moms out there...the kid stuff is ultra cute/stylish. *cash only, from what I can tell.
