I have been using McCabes Pharmacy at the Pavillions for my prescriptions for well over a year…read more They regularly make mistakes with my medication, leaving items off , meaning I have to go back to get the missing item. The last time this happened was with last months script. With the result I had to go back and request the missing item again. Yesterday when my wife collected my repeat prescription she was told I needed a new prescription for next month. I didn't - again they had to be chased up later the same day to check the script. There was in fact another month left on the script. The staff don't appear to be tuned in. I have collected the script and will not be using McCabes in future for any prescriptions as it is getting beyond a joke. Last year I was given my medication with another persons name and address on the package. The name was the same, but address completely different. They don't appear to have any controls in place. AVOID.

And price are a little higher than the more suburban pharmacies, but I guess you can't complain when the location and opening hours probably make that necessary.

What sets it apart is the occult knowledge of the third Mr. Foley in relation to skin conditions. Mr. Foley has a consultation room at the back of the shop, lined with jars of ointments and tins of powders. Twice I have come to him with undiagnosed rashes and irritations; he listens patiently and then mixes up a soothing unguent on a marble slab, wielding a spatula with swift and graceful strokes. The potion is then labelled and wrapped in a white paper parcel. His remedies are unfailingly effective, his manner kindly and sympathetic. A consultation costs €35 - cheaper than a GP, and a rare example of a modern day apothecary.
