It is within walking distance of the cliffs - but it is easier to just drive up past the gate to the top - and that's what I'd recommend. The room was clean and comfortable. The bleating sheep were on the pastures and hillsides right outside the windows. The mountain hills valley views were right outside the windows. I can't repeat this enough. A room with a View! This is why I loved this property -- the VIEWS. It was quiet. It was nice. Breakfast was delicious and the same waitress who served us the previous evening at the local pub served us in the morning. Right out of a movie. Nothing but positive things to say about this place. The innkeeper welcomed my wife and me and our two teenage boys. We had a two room family suite with two different amazing views. Highly recommended. Oh, and he recommended the local pub for dinner which was fantastic. We would definitely return -- for a week, next time... Cheers!

This is a privately owned B&B that is run by a single family. The inn is more like a small hotel…read morethan a B&B. It has at least 24 rooms and maybe more. The breakfast area is like a small restaurant. The B&B is very 'homey' in appearance with decor from the 1950s or 60s. The innkeepers are very nice and helpful. Breakfast was the full Irish and very good.

The room was ok with the only first world problems being a wash hand basin that took 10 minutes for the water to go and nowhere for soap and shampoo to sit when showering. Fact is it's an oldish hotel now and needs a bit of a tidy here and there when things normalise. I suspect the Wu flu is the reason why there's no in room tea and coffee and it's definitely the reason why the pool and gym are open but steam baths and jacuzzis are out. I enjoy the latter but I've never knowingly gone through a gym door. So it's not as much a pleasure going to hotels any more. Its a base to sleep have breakfast and leave for the day. We had dinner on one night - a steak deal for 15 euro which was darn fine for the money but at 6 euro for a pint of Guinness and 6.50 euro for a glass of rosé that's an ouch. Had we taken two drinks each we'd have paid almost the value of a main meal on drinks. I'm not cross at the hotel for the alcohol prices as I realise that it's the bunch of gougers in Dáil Éireann who are the real tax grabbing culprits. As an aside this bunch of amateur spivs have just awarded themselves a 2% pay hike when most folks are struggling to stay in work in a pandemic and these politicos have ruled that the minimum wage won't rise this year above 1% - tone deaf politicians who always fill their shameless boots at everyone else's expense. The breakfast was darn good food too - all the usual fried food and a cold buffet and all planned around social distancing and hygiene rules. There's no fish offered at breakfast so for me that's a personal disappointment but again I can't realistically complain against the price paid. Of special mention, as ever in Ireland, is the genuine friendly and warm staff here. A great bunch of people who go the extra mile and sure did for us each day importantly with a smile. Now ya can't buy that.

Your hostess, Noreen McGinty (her website reminded me), is wonderfully warm, but not strange or overly nosy as some hosts on our journey could be (five long years ago). She reminded us of our moms and told us about how her son lives in America (I can't remember where). Anyway, her house was so tidy you could eat off the floors. Her breakfast was yummy and Donegal is amazing. I say this about most of Ireland, but Donegal is just even more beautiful than those parts of Southern Ireland that everyone raves about. It is more remote, more green, more insane views. When we go back again, I want to rent a cottage in Donegal and just soak it in (and I am not a nature person). The Arches is approved of by the Irish Tourist Board and, according to their website, is recommended by Lonely Planet, fancy schmancy. The rates are currently listed at 65 to 70 Euros for a double room.

We arrived in the early evening to a near empty parking lot, but sat for a minute to take in the beautifully manicured grounds. We walked in to a very quaint home and made our way to the bar where we were greeted by John, the owner/sweetest man you will ever meet. He quickly checked our reservation and escorted us to our room and made sure our heat was set just so. The room was clean, tidy, and decorated in a manner that reminded me of a warm hug from your grandmother. We decided on dinner and a pint after ordering our breakfast for the next day and figuring out the wifi (it was a bit spotty). The soup was delicious, the steak was unevenly cooked but edible and a similar cut to what we had experienced throughout Ireland. For breakfast, my wife had the full Irish breakfast and I had the scrambled eggs and bacon. It was delicious and for both meals, John was the host, server, and bus boy. He wears all hats. We checked out soon after breakfast and he was so sweet and seemed sad to see us off, but wished us well and sent us with a gift. We will definitely be back if we're ever in the area.

Shan, the owner, is friendly, offers great advice on local food and tourist attractions and will help you get your laundry sorted. The only issue is that it's too far to walk to Donegal town and the parking at night in town can be right. Taxi cost 7 euro each way
