About a year ago, when I walked by Lilo Creamery on First Avenue between 81st and 82nd Streets. I was surprised by a poster that was attached to their front foor, explaining that the fzmily had been in tbe restaurant business on the upper east side for msny years and were now opening up this new ice cresm shop. I liked their personalzed story. This wasn't a chain or franchise nor was it osned by a corporate conglomerate but a " Mom & Pop" shop. When I walked by, it was early in the morning and they weren't open but I planned to return. Yesterday, although it was an unusually cold and rainy afternoon in April and I was thinking, I would have preferred buying a hot cup of coffee, I hallened upon Lilo's and decided tonwalk inside. I was immediately impressed by their incredible selection of ice creams that are written in colorful chalk on the walls of their store! To my amazement, they buy homemade ice creams from all over the country and have, if possible the mighedt selection imaginable. They slso sell soft serve yogurt as well as ice cream and have a very impressive selection of " add ons" ( sprinkles, etc) . I was slso surprised by their selection of different cone options including gluten free and pretzel ! Since I was in the mood for coffee, Sonam, offered me two options, and J chose coffee with cookies. It was DELICIOUS! Having read some of the other reviews, especially some of the negative ones regarding their prices, I did not think that the cost was out of line since you canesdy spend over 10 dollars in domebof these high end ice cream shops. Of course, you could go to Mc Donald's and buy a cone for a dollar but you might not be eating anything that has milk or cream. ! I loved Lilo Creamery and while it's many blocks from where I live, I'll definitely be returning soon! read more

Went here after dinner at a pub by chance since it was close by, and it definitely hit the spot for a toasted marshmallow flavor and black sesame ice cream. It's cool they have a bunch of different kind of cones from cookie to pretzel. And then they have a base ice cream that you can get it mixed with different flavors, like black sesame, to sate that craving. The lady at the register was super nice along with the male clerk. There's a stamp card that they gave us so that we can keep coming back and rewards. read more

Adorable little store with homemade ice cream and shakes. Picked up a simple malted vanilla milkshake. It def hit the spot on a warm sunny day in the city. Had the pleasure of sampling the ube and pandan ice cream. They don't allow samples but must of caught the worker on a good day. She was sweet and super friendly! And was told how the boss actually makes them himself using thier ice cream soft serve kinda machine right there. And freeze lychee and peel them and it goes straight into the machine! How much more homemade can that be?! Next time I'm in the city? I'll be grabbing some fresh ice cream! Sad I didn't right there and then but enjoyed my creamy vanilla milkshake! read more

Unbelievable place. Very low key, very legit. Super lovely staff and just shockingly incredible ice cream, particularly the soft serve where they can mix it with the flavor you pick. I did soft serve with black sesame, my wife did with birthday cake + rainbow sprinkles mixed it. 10/10. First time we've ever gotten a small ice cream anywhere and wanted a large. Top! read more

What once was Emack & Bolio's in the UES is now Lilo Creamery. Not sure how they might be related or if at all, but I was curious to check out their ice cream after hearing about their opening. Loved the wide variety of flavors with some with a geographical focus (Maine, Boston, Hudson Valley etc) and another on Asian influenced flavors like pandan and ube. Sad that they don't get to do samples :( because it was hard to pick one thing out of their flavors, let alone decide between ice cream, soft serve, and milkshake/smoothie. Ultimately I decided on the PB Pie with a cookie crumvle cone because I was feeling peanut butter and chocolate vibes. It was indeed filled with peanut butter flavors and small reeses pieces. Ice cream texture was solid but pretty standard. The cookie crumble pieces were tasty, but the chocolate dip was too sweet for me. Rest of the waffle cone was standard. The layout of the store is the same as before and the flavors/cones echo that of Emack's. With the small space and small door, lines were formed quickly once it got busy. Each server takes "a party" even if you pay separately so the flow isn't as streamlined. Overall tasty ice cream for the neighborhood but make sure to pick your flavors ahead of time! read more

New to the neighborhood! The look-and-feel is more streamlined than the previous Emack's. There are still some innovative flavors, and there's a little more representation by Asian flavors, like black sesame soft serve. I tried the peach cobbler, which felt very seasonal. I got the blueberry cobbler, which wasn't as good - not as much fruit flavor coming through. I liked the creaminess of the pistachio; it reminded me of green tea ice cream. I'm very picky when it come to ice cream, so when I say this is my favorite ice cream spot, I mean it. Absolutely incredible flavors--s'mores ice cream is so hard to get right, and they nail it. The variety of flavors is something you only really see either in Maine, Cape Cod, or the ADK, so having so many impossibly good flavors in just one store is such a treat in NYC. The service is always so sweet, and although the space is small, there are seats both inside and outside. LOVE this place! read more

Started to go downhill before the rebrand from Emack and Bolios to Lilo but it's only gotten worse. The ice cream is ok but the problem is the price and process of getting your ice cream. The portions are laughably small for the price and quality. It's basically insulting. And on top of that, they literally measure every scoop you order. And if it's a little over whatever their predetermined amount is, they will remove some from your cup and put it back in the bin. This is insane for so many different reasons not least of which is the time it takes to do that so the line is always slow, but also how about the fact that some ice cream has mix ins which might make them heavier. So for that you get less ice cream? Wild. The manager or owner also seems to be kind of rude to her staff. I used to go here all the time but I don't think I'll be back anymore. read more

Wow - huge disappointment. .The ice cream is okay taste wise but the price is horrible! They charged with tax 9.21 for 2 scoops that elsewhere would have been a small. Plus they weigh the serving out. Definitely not worth it. Sedutto, two blocks away has better tasting ice cream, better prices and very generous portions. read more
