A nice palate cleanser before the bigger proteins coming up. Duck Ragu with salada crumb and plum sheet - Sister loved it. I didn't care for it as much. VERY rich, and almost needed some citrus to give it a bit of freshness. The plum sheet was a creative touch but didn't give me a fruit that helped to balance the dish; rather it was a bit too complimentary to the richness. Dry ages beef with roasted tomato, bone marrow purée and carrot, Purple basil and honey - my sister's favourite dish for the night. When I hear sous-vide'd peaches i am counting on getting an almost poached peach which is easily cut through with a fork which isn't as soft and over done as a poached peach would be, but still have a nice consistency secondary to the sous-vide process. But my favorite was definitely the mushroom pithivier, a lovely mushroom "pie" made of layers of duxelles, kohlrabi, and Comte cheese in a flaky, crispy pie crust! Absolutely divine--the filling was rich with umami, but light at the same time with the kohlrabi. The dish came with a light frisee salad on the side and a mushroom ketchup, which added a hit of acidity to every bite of the savory pie. We were told that the pie would take 30-40 minutes to prepare after ordering, but it was totally worth it! We decided to skip dessert, but to finish off, we were given small complementary bites of a jelly and a salted chocolate truffle, which simply melted in your mouth! The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the falafel chips it's served with but no big deal. It was actually a generous portion and would definitely do for a main at dinner. I tried some of the chicken parma and it was lovely as well, nice and crispy. Staff are friendly and welcoming and there's even some familiar faces from when I used to live down the road 6+ years ago. So that's nice to see!
