This is such a fun, unusual way to see Christmas lights. Driving through the cavern is an experience most cities don't offer. Be prepared on the weekends as lines can get long. Got there at 10 o'clock with a group of 5 people. We waited until 10:30 for our scheduled time for ziplining. The waiting area was very roomy with many seating areas and a few cornhole boards to play while you wait. Evin and Ross were our guides and they were both amazing. Amazing!!!! Definitely a must-do for the holidays. I have seen the billboards and ads but was like it can't be that good and it's like $50 a car...hmm well I am so glad we booked and went. Not only is it insane that you literally are driving into a huge cavern in your own vehicle but the size of it is is ridiculous. Then add in the light shows and it's breathtaking! It's about 12-15 minutes drive at a slow pace and you have light displays from all sorts of known Disney and other companies as well as a laser light show (so be careful if that causes you any medical issues). Such a fun Christmas activity! I went on a Saturday night and it was busy. We got in line at 7:43pm, made it to the cave entrance by 8:51pm and it tooknabout half an hour to drive through. While there was a wait, the staff had it organized. There were traffic directors from the main road to the holding lot. In the holding lot, there were 10 rows where they lined up cars. They pulled the cars in row order. It was very organized! In the staging area they had porta potties along with a snack bar. In the cave, there were so many cute displays! I loved the themed areas including 12 Days of Christmas, Despicable Me, Frozen, and the light tunnels. I love that they had staff patrolling the path to make sure everyone was being safe and the path was moving slowly. It's a worth wile activity if you love looking at Christmas lights! read more

I actually went in the morning so as to avoid crowds. It was still pretty busy though, but being as it is in a cave the time of visit isn't relevant. A perk! You pay about $50a carload, so get a few friends and family together, and it takes about 25-30min. There are some really great displays, and music. AhMAZING! This was great! ...and even better that it was in a cavern so we could ride through during daylight hours! One of my concerns was getting caught up in traffic, so we came through around 3pm. That was the best decision ever. We were able to take our time, pause to look at something longer, and peruse the lights. Technology is amazing. Some of the displays are very high-speed. The synchronization of lights and music is ......awesome. On top of that you could tune your car radio to a local station that pays Christmas music. I don't know what else to say but, do it. This was our first time seeing the lights under Louisville and we were all very impressed and excited! The music is loud, and since it's underground, you can roll all your windows down and it's not very cold even during the cold winter days! The path is easy to follow and you basically just let go of your gas peddle and coast. Every one in a while people slow down and their tail lights can obscure some of the view, at least for the driver. There is a ton of recognizable things to see, such as the Avengers, super Mario, etc. there is only light ups either, some of the areas have inflatable TV screens, rave like light shows and tons of signs with funny dad jokes! Our boys all loved it and look forward to making this a family tradition. read more

This would have been our 4th year of driving from Dayton Ohio to Louisville to see the underground lights. We arrived on 12/20 about 3 pm due to someone had an accident on 71. It took several lights to exit to not block the intersection. We were in line for over 2 hours and moved about 100 yards. This was not the case in years past. We left we had a ticket and we could not stand the wait. We went to a local restaurant and came back 2 hours later it was just as bad. Why did this happen was the Louisville not prepared. I tried to get a refund, I feel they were oversold and we lost out. No one has responded to my request, I guess they figured they have the money and you don't so they win. I know this is not devastating to the company but I highly doubt we will waste our time again. read more

WOW! JUST WOW!! I haven't been to lights under Louisville in three years and I am floored as to how much it has changed. It is an absolutely stunning light show to drive-through in the cavern I drove through with my son, and we took some pictures, which I will post. A beautiful selection of old and new Christmas music played as we drove through. HEADS UP! if you arrive and buy a ticket it's $56. But if you go online, use the online coupon you can get it for $37. We went on a Tuesday at 7pm and there was No longer wait for traffic, not overly crowded. There was so many themes of lights but yet it all flowed together nicely. Don't dare purchase a ticket until you get on site. This place intentionally over sells knowing that they can not process all the cars through in a timely manner. They expect people to come during the day or wait 3-4 hrs in traffic (local area roads) not even counting the time in their lot. Spend $50 a car load and not be able to reschedule for a new day. One day, you either make it or you burn $50. Plan wisely. There will be no traffic control. Good luck with picking the best rout into the event. read more

Lights under Louisville is a unique holiday event that, as far as I'm aware, is unique to Louisville. It's a clever idea, since you've got this vast underground cavern We've done it every year since we moved to Louisville and always look forward to it. We tend to go earlier in the season to beat the closer-to-Christmas crowds. Once a year is enough (it's largely the same every year) but it's a fun, festive way to spend about 1/2 hour. Once you enter the cavern it's headlights-off (some people have a vitamin deficiency that doesn't seem to allow them to do this) as you slowly meander through the cavern. The shear amount of light displays is amazing as you wind your way through the caves. Some areas have common themes (aside from, of course, Christmas) and there is a variety of Christmas music played throughout your drive. I love that Louisville has this unique attraction. The price (this year) is $34.99 per car, so cram as many people as you can in and visit soonly! read more

It's hard to tell what holiday attractions will be entertaining for my almost 2yo toddler. Lights Under Louisville was a definite five stars for him (if he could write this review). It cost $30 per carload, and we decided to wait until the week between Christmas and New Year's to attend to help avoid any long lines. And happily, there was no line at all. We purchased our ticket ahead of time via Mega Cavern's site, and presented the email with QR code to scan to enter. This attraction took about 20 minutes to drive through. It included light displays of a wide variety, including a couple of light tunnels and figures from Toy Story, Marvel, DC, Minions, Disney and more. Music also played over loudspeakers, and considering this is in a cave, where it's 50-60 degrees, we were able to roll down our windows to hear it better. And since you drive so slow, I was able to hold my son in my lap, so that he could see everything better. It was such a joy to see his joy. This will become a family tradition. read more

Light show has improved in some ways over the years with more high tech, impressive lights. The $40 price tag is a bit high, but I guess they've finally used it to improve the displays. Lines can be long and you'll end up coughing on car exhaust fumes throughout. I feel badly for the folks working there. It's all Christmas - I guess it comes with the territory but there's no acknowledgment of other holidays. They got rid of the Hanukkah themed lights, so it's a bit less inclusive than in the past. read more

I love Christmas lights and after last weekend in Etown, I was looking forward to Lights under Louisville. This was kind of just eh for me. First - the positives. They have a system to get people in and it works. Patience is the key though. You start in a parking lot, in a row. Then you move to another parking lot, in a row. From there, you head into the lights. This is where you turn in your ticket or have your ticket scanned. Then you head into the lights. There are A LOT of lights. Two tunnels to drive through - which I loved. Lots of characters and projections. I much appreciated the holiday themed dad jokes hanging above some of the displays. The negatives: The cost. I feel like the lights in Etown were longer and it was donation based. A much better deal if you are in a budget. The majority of the lights weren't really christmasy. There was a Disney princess section, a superhero section, and a military section. None of these really scream Christmas to me. Great for kids but missed the mark for me. Overall, this is a safe thing to do during Covid. Plan on several hours of waiting in lines. read more

Super long wait times. Don't go late in the evening. They are very organized, which is a huge plus. The light display is great. It was a little dusty down there, as expected. Bathrooms are right inside the entrance of the cave, and a portable trailer potty house. So plan accordingly. There isn't any stopping points throughout, and attendants keep you moving pretty swiftly. It takes about 17 minutes to go through. And we waited an hour and 45 minutes to get in. I've been to Lights Under Louisville a few times now, and it's come to be one of my favorite holiday events! First of all, how many other cities can say they have a light show in a cave?! Exactly. Not only this, but it is a pretty good length to drive through. The first thing that you should note is that during the holidays, this can get so. insanely. busy. I would highly recommend going on a weeknight or before sundown on the weekend, or you may end up waiting for a couple hours. It costs $30 to drive through per car, so bring some friends and the cost will easily be worth it. The are different themes of lights as you go through the cave, and it's fun for all ages! read more

I was invited to join my quaran-team for a drive through the Lights Under Louisville. One of the grandparents had gifted them with a priority pass for a visit to the attraction with their lil' kids. So we had a general time at which to be there, and got to skip the line, no waiting for us. Or, well....a lot less waiting! We wrangled the kids in to the car, brought some homemade cocoa with us to drink in the car, and headed on over. Since we had the priority pass, we got to scoot on past the other schmoes just trying to get a little festivity in their lives :-P Anyway, it moved smoothly and much quicker than I expected, even with the jump-the-line of it all. The lights were festive and lovely (well...aside from the disturbing Chewbacca....). But it also seemed a bit shorter than I expected, for the cost. I guess if I divide the cost by person in the car, it is a bit more worth it. But it was about $65 for about 25 minutes from our first turning on the street to get to the Mega Cavern to getting back on the highway to go home. If you have little ones, and/or cost doesn't matter a lick to you, this is worth visiting for a little holiday cheer. read more

This was an absolute disaster. I work weekend days so going during the day for Lights Under Louisville was not an option for us. We drove 2 hours from Indianapolis with 6 kids (combined families). We waited in line on the interstate ramp for 3.5 hours. It took an hour and a half to go 900 feet. No joke. Nobody would let the cars merge from the 264 ramp onto Poplar Level Rd. And there was absolutely NO traffic police/control UNTIL you get to the actual road the cavern is on. We had no idea when we were in line it would be a 4.5 hour wait just to get to the entrance. We got to the ramp at 6:30pm and finally left the cavern at 11:30pm. We fed the kids snacks on the way expecting to get dinner after we were done. Needless to say we were looking for a place to get food at midnight when we finally got on the interstate to head back to Indianapolis. Round trip it was an 11 hour car ride for a 30 min light show. We got home at 3am. They need to limit the amount of tickets between 5pm-close. This was absolute torture. Had we known at the time we got to the ramp we would be looking at a 4.5 hour wait just to get to the cavern we would have just called it a $50 loss on the tickets and done something else. Staff needs to look up Winterlights at Newfileds in Indianapolis and see how they do their timed tickets and learn a few things. Or maybe hire the Chick-fil-A drive through teams to direct traffic..they'd have everyone out in an hour. All in all, this is a core memory for 8 people we don't really care to experience ever again. Which is sad because it has so much potential to be an amazing family experience. read more

I actually didn't even see lights! Before you purchase tickets look into how they're non refundable, and you CANT transfer the dates of the tickets. So even after waiting hours in traffic where you get cut off by everyone, with absolutely no traffic control you don't get to see what you pay for. I seriously could not recommend this less it's just robbery. They even disconnected their phones so if you want to ask for a refund you can't because that's just how good their business is! read more

This was really great for the kiddos! The lights were huge and very expansive! HOWEVER, how are lights under Louisville displaying the UK bigger than UL? As a Louisville resident and fan, this is unacceptable! This would never happen in Lexington. Also, there has to be a better way to move traffic better.
