Hey, if you're visiting New Orleans try out a day or 3 in the Mississippi Delta. The Le Matidora…read moreInn is the RT66 place to stay near the Big Easy. Located between Hwy 23 & Hwy 11 in history rich Plaquemines Parish on the Mississippi River. It's a 15 min. private flight or 1.5 hr. drive south from New Orleans. It's a moderately priced good 'ole southern fish camp style operation very close to Tuna Town (Venice, Louisiana). Venice is where the Mississippi River empties into the Gulf of Mexico - great for inshore & offshore saltwater fishing. Le Matidora will appeal to everyone from fishers to business travelers. To me, Le Matidora Inn is part of my life-long Great American Road Trip. It allows me to dip into a southern delta side-order of American life. Here are facility details: Le Matidora Inn is a converted residence with a unique 1st floor wood paneled common kitchen, entertainment & bar area for self-serve food prep. The kitchen is stocked with everything needed for cooking the fish you caught and other meals and crafting cocktails. The 2nd floor has updated rooms with a southern style balcony. Private cabins are available for groups. Outside is the salt water pool and a large lounge area for relaxing after a day on the Gulf. Bottom-line - a retro southern vibe with all the hi-tech necessities you will need. Now the fun stuff: Owner Malcolm Lincoln ("TMac") will fly you to & from the Inn. It's 15 minutes from New Orleans. TMac gave me a fly around of the city for a view from 1,500 ft. Private & General Aviation pilots can land & taxi right to the Inn. Get details from T-Mac or Rosemary 504-564-9300. Airport ID LS84. They are like family! Let's Talk Plaquemines: Nearby dining includes great seafood (oysters and crab cakes!) at Thompson's Kitchen, Port Sulfur. When at Venice Marina the Cajun egg rolls, cheese sticks & extra oysters complimented the Margaritas. On the water: Jonathan Ruffin/Venice Charters & his nephew Dylan took us 70 miles out at 5,000 ft. depth - a pair of Metairie firemen who drive a 32' Contender like a Maserati fire truck. Tuna, Rainbow Runners & Barricuda dominated our day. Everyone needs to see up close the big oil rigs on the Gulf - oil rigs are artificial reefs that are full of baitfish & larger gamefish. Also, salute the roughnecks onboard these engineering marvels - they are the first step in fueling our economy and our boats so we can slay 'em. USA!!!

This review is to warn families with children, not adults looking for a "fish camp." Our biggest complaint is that there was a domestic situation near our room, the neighboring room, where a lady was literally screaming curse words all night and my 4,9,10 year old could hear it all and kept waking up. She kept calling the boyfriend or partner a "N" word, which I have never heard someone scream at someone in my life and bothered me to hear. I was woken up to profound yelling /screaming at least 6 times from 11pm to 6 am. This is an older motel, pretty beat up and some cosmetic damage inside that is not pictured online. Personally, I don't care. The beds were fine, but if you aim for hotels 3-5 stars, just know this will be similar to a motel 8..There is a clutter appearance outside. My biggest concern was if that crazy lady who was in the neighboring room had a gun, she was so nuts acting, that we could get shot through the walls. I have never wondered that in my life before. This place would be fine for adults with low expectations , but be warned, the walls are paper thin especially for screaming neighbors. There was vomit on the way out from someone's dog. Again I am sorry to leave a bad review, but it is not family friendly. I do recommend the owner get rid of that lady because there is clearly domestic violence going on from her, and anyone who stays in the rooms beside them will be miserable unless they are in a coma when they sleep or deaf. He was very nice and I didn't have a problem with the appearance of the place, but the lady made me and my kids miserable. There were also 2 loose dogs just walking around, one had somewhat of a limp and appeared overbred, just had puppies maybe.

We stayed here in April which is not a peak season so we were the only visitors here. The owner (Clay) lives very close to the cabins and is available by phone anytime you need him. He is really friendly, a wealth of information about the area and provides charter fishing trips. The fishing in the area is great! We almost limited out on speckled trout before 9:00 am on our first morning out! You can buy live shrimp and also marine fuel right there at the lodge. Take all the food, ice and other supplies you need because the closest place to restock is about 25-30 minutes away. The only issue I had was that I am a little OCD about a clean room and it really needs a good dusting all the way up the vaulted ceilings. Besides that it was great. The boat ramp is a little tricky because it's short but we managed to get our bay boat in and out with no problems. During the week we left it docked at the cabin and only trailered it when we left. There are plenty of supplies to rinse your boat off as well as nice cleaning stations to clean your catches each day. We take ziplock bags, filet the fish out and freeze them as we go. We took home an RTIC 45 full of fish fillets and only fished 3 days! We will be back!
