For the sake of safety and modernization I decided to replace an ancient 1930's era electrical switch box complete with two old school glass fuses located under my kitchen sink that provided power to the dishwasher and to a garburator that I had just had removed. Did a quick internet search for electricians in the Cotes des Neiges area and came upon Lighthouse Electrique. I liked the commentary (and their name !) and figured I'd give them a shot and telephoned. I spoke to Noam there who was very knowledgably and patiently explained to me how to most economically proceed all the while respecting the current Electrical Code. Both my wife and I run our own small businesses and it is difficult for us take time off from work during normal Monday ~ Friday business hours so I was very pleased when Noam offered at no extra charge to come over on a Tuesday evening around 18:00 h. He and his assistant arrived right on time and quickly and cheerfully removed the old stuff and installed the new junction box. As he was there anyway I asked hin to have a look at a three bulb ceiling inset lighting in the basement that had malfunctioned (severe voltage drop causing 80% dimming to two of the three bulbs) since we had bought our home some ten years. He discovered that the electrician who the previous owner had engaged to install these lights had done a very hack and even dangerous install and proved it to me with his multimeter. I appreciated his honesty when he explained to me that he could not quote on fixing the job as there were many other lighting circuits in the ceiling and he had little faith that they were up to Code and that it could make hours to make them right and there was no way to know how much work it would be without actually doing it. He exercised proper prudence as well respecting his duty to keep my house safe and up to Code by disconnecting the offending circuit . I found Lighthouse Electrique on Yelp and I just want to say they deserve the 5 star rating! My light switch had sparks and smoke last night (a friend decided to change my lighting switch without my consent once and didn't do it properly, then he was confused because it was connected to lighting in 3 different rooms; another tried to fix it but it was never normal since, heated, etc.). I called Lighthouse Electric this morning and they called me right back and agreed to an appointment after I got home from work. Noam and his helper were very kind and explained the problem and why adjoining lighting was also flickering. He also explained the importance of having the compatible switch depending if using LED or incandescent lightbulbs. He fixed it in no time. I was getting a new HVAC system installed that required an electrician to wire the attic and wire the outside unit as well. All this in -20C weather to boot. Noam came by to assess the what was needed and provided a fair estimate for the job. He was clear on what was needed and did what he could to keep costs down. When the job started, a few undetectable surprises came up and Noam was clear with the issue and worked hard to come to a cost effective solution where I feel some other electricians would have been quick to sell me on the idea of changing my panel at a significant cost to me. He came immediately for a relatively minor but urgent problem, proposed a new and cheaper solution than others, and showed up exactly as promised on a miserable snowy Sunday to redirect and cover our electrical entry wires to allow our roofers to safely work the next day.
