After gathering up the books that look as if they may be of some use to charities, we boxed them. They were clean, good condition and eBay seemed to think there was some value. It is worth comparing ACT book collection with Sydney. We tried to give them to Lifeline in Sydney at Ashfield; phoning and making a time meant nothing as no one was there. Rather than take these back home we went to the Salvation Army nearby and left them there. I suspect that they may have just thrown out our boxes as there was just so much stuff and the ladies there just looked distressed. On the other hand, we drove into the ACT Lifeline and before we could get out of the car a fellow with a trolley as there to greet us. He soon realised that he needed two trolleys. He explained that these books get sorted through then are offered in a book fair in February. I was glad we didn't take these to the tip and looks like they can at least make some money for charity. read more

Lifeline is a great organisation, so when downsizing our bookshelves, it was logical to take them to Lifeline. A short journey up Gungahlin Drive to Mitchell ACT and I was met with a really helpful volunteer who provided trolley space, making the drop-off smooth and efficient with a friendly smile and a big thank you. I always enjoy the Bookfairs and I'm sure they were able to make some well-deserved earnings from our donation. read more
