I feel so blessed to have Lifetime fitness close by! The diverse classes make it perfect to stay interested and to challenge yourself in new ways. In the Lifespa, Josh has been an incredibly talented massage therapist and has helped me with resolving stress and pain. I have recommended him to many people! I have loved Katrina's dance class over the years and she makes it so fun and yet you don't feel uncomfortable if you aren't perfect with the moves which gives you encouragement to try. Recently I have been going to Tai Chi with Lindsay and when I leave that class I just feel amazing. Meredith on Sunday Yin Yoga has a special gift in guiding you to a peaceful place. I love Sandra's Thursday shred as the time goes by so fast. Kandee Bishop is also amazing at keeping you energized and her format is great for bar class. I recently tried Aaron's for Root Hatha and can't wait to go back. The pool is beautiful and they take great care of it! The cafe is great and people are friendly and they have great service. Awesome from the inside as it is on the outside! For years I've driven by and saw how attractive the building was. This year is the year I finally committed to working out here. Excellent customer service. Spectacular amities. Bonus features when you become a member. Options for different workout clubs. Skilled trainers. Child care and camps. Lifetime Fitness has it all. I have been very pleased to experience most of what Lifetime offers and I like so many things about it already. Memberships starts at $99 a month and can be customized to what you need or want for your fitness goals. I appreciate the one on one training I've received already. The accountability and relationship development is money well spent. During COVID19 review: masks are not required for entry. Employees were all masked until recent Governor Mask Mandate was lifted earlier in May 2021. Excellent sanitation protocols. Social distance is good. (As good as it can get for a gym.) Everyone is very respectful of space and cleaning their work area/equipment. Busiest times of the gym are weekday mornings 5:00-8:00 am. Gets busy off and on during mid morning till late afternoon. Busy again after work hours. Less busiest time is 6:30pm - 11:00pm close on week days. Weekends are fantastic too as it's less busy. Our family has been a loyal paying customer for two plus years. Lifetime offers a good option for parents with young kids with activities and have some workout "me" time. We also spent a bunch money on kids activities, swimming team, private classes. My wife for personal reasons has not been going to the gym for a long while, and just came off membership a week ago. Last Sunday, she came with me to meet up with friends there while I play one hour of leisure tennis. We were told guest pass is not allowed and for my wife to come in, we have to pay 40 bucks for an entire day pass plus additional tennis court fee. Left a really bad taste in our mouth, comes across very greedy, short-sighted, and unwise. I immediately cancelled all my membership as well as my kids', as it is apparent to me that our entire family's value as a customer is worth only 80 bucks to them, instead of the years of $350 due I pay for our family in the past, or the prospect of me continuing to pay almost $200 / month or $2,000 a year going forward. Steve, the gentlemen who requested that we pay a ridiculous fee or "re-enroll" my wife as a member, simply for one hour of watching me play tennis, apparently is neither math savvy nor commercial enough to understand the cost of customer acquisition, the value of words of mouth from parents in the community, and the image he created on behalf of Lifetime as a money grabber rather than a customer centric organization. He also told me he is the highest decision maker at the organization that day, which surprised me. Very disappointing. In summary, three things. If you have young kids, it may make sense with the high price, but it is definitely not worth the price if your kids are over 6. Remember to check for hidden fees, charges you for magazines you do not need nor are you aware of, as well as passing credit card fees onto customers, which is mind-boggling for a 4 billion dollar private equity owned business to do. I have been recommending LT to fellow parents, many joined, but I will no longer do that and actually advise against doing it. Based on my latest interaction with them, there is definitely no willingness or effort at Lifetime DSM to value you and keep you as a customer. read more

This gym is absolutely atrocious. Josh gibbons the general manager is a bully. Numerous times he's picked on me, especially, for being different, dressing different and not standing up to "lifetime expectations". It's -12 degrees out today. I finish my workout and I'm leaving the gym wearing a ski mask. He tells me to remove the ski mask as it's distracting to other members. He's constantly picking on me for whatever reason and I'm exhausted by it. I went to other managers to bring it to their attention and they defended josh saying "lifetime is bougie for lack of a better term and there's a certain standard to uphold" I asked him if he thought it was discrimination and they both laughed in my face. Went as a guest of another member to use the pool facilities last Sunday. I was impressed by the number of chairs they had around the pool deck. The staff working the outside concessions area was quite friendly. They have beers--mainly domestic low-calorie stuff. I saw Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, Woodchuck Cider, and a couple others I don't recall. The chicken quesadilla I had was quite tasty for being something out of a snack bar. The quesadilla comes with a sour cream with chives blended in, as well as a salsa that was far too chunky for my liking. It would have been nice if the water fountains were working, considering how hot it was outside. Didn't use any of the fitness facilities, but everything outside looks like its kept up well. If I lived closer, I'd consider membership. read more

Nice facilities, good experience until you try to cancel your membership. In August, when I tried to cancel, local staff said the membership was cancelled but Lifetime billed me again in Sept. Working locally seemed to be a waste of time, so I called Corporate last month and was told they have no record of the cancellation request. So we went through the process again and I received a cancellation confirmation email. Today, I see they've billed me again. So I called Corp again, they have no record of the cancellation (even though they're the ones that sent it to me). I found their email and sent it back to them. Supposedly, the membership is now cancelled and they're refunding my money for December. I wasn't until I got mad and said I was calling my lawyer once I got off the call did anything seem to happen. If I'm billed next month I guess I'll have to get a lawyer involved. read more

This gym is great. It's certainly pricier than Planet Fitness (approx. $100/mo) but it's got $100/mo worth of amenities that you can enjoy. They have all the standard gym stuff - weights, treadmills, cycles, classes, etc. They have yoga and a café and like 3 pools. They have hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, a gym for basketball, daycare, and free hairspray, razors, deodorant etc in the dressing rooms! If you wanna pay a little money, they even have massages and tennis. I have never been a gym person, and the thought of driving all the way across town just to do work sounded exhausting, but the people are so friendly and this gym has so much that I get up and go. If you have the money, and want a lot of amenities, this place is definitely worth looking at. read more

First of all I love how they never respond to the negative reviews on here or google and when they do it some generic copy and paste job, pathetic! I yesterday at 6:15 to sign up and get a tour. I understand it's a Sunday and I can't expect membership to be there all day on the weekends but the front desk guy told me there was no one to give me a tour. You're telling me with the probably 50 employees they had working no one could take 5 minutes and show me around? It was just straight up laziness by the front desk guy. If that's how I'm going to be treated, like I don't matter when I would be paying a fortune for 3 people then I'm going to consider going somewhere else. Maybe not as nice but I hear Genesis goes out of their way customer service wise. Do better Lifetime! Absolutely outstanding. I was passing through and wanted to check out the facility and get a workout in. It was around 4:30am and the front desk lady was very polite which you don't always find at that time of the day. Facility was super clean and had every machine I could want. Perfect spacing and very clean. I am an amputee so I was worried about the shower. They had a bench seat shower stall for me and everything went perfect. Definitely recommend! Wish I lived closer and could be a member. read more

Very nice, upscale fitness facility with tennis courts, basketball and an indoor and outdoor pool on too of the typical amenities you would find in a large fitness club. This is much nicer than the other clubs in town, especially the service and the locker rooms. Some of the lesser known (but most awesome) amenities are: Free child care, and many free kids activities; Free classes like yoga, spin and other fitness classes; and lots of great health and wellness instructors. I love it here. I'm not a regular gym person as I don't work out. I have a pinched nerve that is super painful. The only thing that works is heat. And I'm not a millionaire so I don't have a hot tub. My Dr suggested I try here on a free pass thing to access spa features. This place is huge and at 1st I was very intimidated. Every one is so nice!!!! It is expensive yes. But so so nice. I think I might join in summer months for outdoor pool alone. They have a very nice indoor one as well but being outside is to me more enjoyable. I can't review the equipment bc I don't use it. This gym experience was life changing. Seriously. Yes it cost more than Anytime fitness or other places but if you're serious about working out or losing weight or whatever your fitness goal may be, this is the place to do it. The amenities are great, it's totally family friendly, and the staff members are usually very accommodating. There is a level of support here from the staff- whether it's the Personal Trainers or the people in the kid's academy, that is just unparalleled in any other gym, if you could even find one with the same amenities/classes/equipment. We left because we moved back to Los Angeles but honestly I can't find a gym here in LA that's as good as the Des Moines Lifetime :( read more

Me and my family have been members at lifetime for about 2 years now, We love working out there, nice equipment and cool classes you can take. During the summer and even the winter, we especially love the pool. Yesterday it was my step-sisters birthday. My other stepsister drove us. Our friend came with us, she was a guest a few days over a month ago, she has also filled out the paperwork guests need to when coming. We have been told on multiple occasions thats guests must wait every 30 days, We went into lifetime knowing that we were accompanied by a person over 16, and our friend had not been to lifetime in over a month. As we walked into the door and signed in we explained to the front desk woman, That our friend has waited the thirty days, she then goes onto say that its actually 60 days now, We have never heard that and it didn't say that on the app. For a company that I know makes a ton of money, This is sad, The front desk workers change the rule's numerous amount of times and it's extremely infuriating. read more

Just went for the first time and I was definitely impressed. I walked in and it was breath taking, they have everything you'd need in order to reach your fitness goals. For example they have machines that help you stretch your muscles after a hard work out and a machine that gives your body a full massage. For parents they have a daycare for your kids, they also have a sit down cafe with healthy food and drinks. You can also get haircuts here. Probably one of the better athletic facilities in the metro. In the past ten years, our family has moved between various gyms, including--Aspen Athletic, and Prairie Life Fitness. We finally moved to Lifetime during the summer of it's opening year. The gym features top-of-the-line facilities, including two large locker rooms with sauna and steam rooms, along with a sprawling workout center featuring high-end cardio/weight equipment, two basketball courts, yoga room, and cycle room. The personal trainers on staff are very friendly and motivating, you'll always find one that fits your schedule and health needs. Not to mention, the free classes throughout the day for anything from weight training to yoga. Two pools are fully functional through the calendar year, along with a third which operates from May to September outside. I'd recommend taking children to the outdoor pool for a nice summer activity. Hickman Lifetime also has ten, indoor tennis courts on the far right side of the building. The tennis instructors are very friendly, and offer paid classes for all ages. Finally, the spa and café sections provide a good way to relax after a workout. Although the café prices are quite exorbitant, it's understood as the food provided is very top quality, often gluten-free, and less calories than the standard options elsewhere. If you're considering a switch of gyms, you should definitely consider Lifetime Athletic! read more

Super nice gym to work out at. It's big, clean, offers a lot of free classes, has a lot of free weights and treadmills, has an indoor and outdoor pool, tennis courts at a cost (wish this was free), and 2 full size basketball courts. There is also a sauna, steam room, and hot tub inside the locker rooms. I love going into the sauna and then right into the steam room after my workout. I've heard they also have a good child care center so if you have kids it could come in handy. The membership fee is a monthly contract so you can suspend or cancel anytime. The cost goes down if you add someone to your account so family memberships are a better deal. It probably is one of the most expensive gyms to go to, but in the end it's my decision that I workout here so I shouldn't complain about the costs. Plus it makes me go more since I'm paying $$$ :) Oh and they have a cafeteria as well, which I will go to if the daily smoothie special is a flavor that I like. read more

I had a very bad experience with this gym. I came in mid October to sign up to see what the hype was about only to sign up for the month of October. I looked on my bank account the other day and found out I was being charge for 2 months I hadn't even signed up for. When I called I was told everything would be taken care of so I came in to talk with the general manger and was treated like less then a human being. Moral of the story if you are younger or older this gym will take advantage of you and your wallets. This is by far the nicest GYM I have ever been to. They have all nice state of the art equipment, granite everywhere, select free classes like yoga, indoor and outdoor pool and hot tub, basketball court, tennis but for a fee, cafeteria, spa, and much more. You can tell everyone here likes to exercise. So it makes for a motivational environment. Only bad things are is its a bit expensive and doesn't have an indoor track. Had a membership here for over a year... No issues and the club is awesome! What more could you ask for... Free shaving creme, shampoo, body wash, conditioner, mouth wash, q-tips, hair spray, hand lotion, deodorant spray, towels for use, and mouth wash. I don't recommend going at 5pm during the week, but typically can get on a treadmill after about 4-5 minutes cause there is so many. Perfect time to go is at 5am. Best (included in the monthly membership price) group fitness classes... Will smoke your butt, especially TCX and Friday Warrior Sculpt! Membership price is a little pricey but totally worth the extra dollars of your looking for all the amenities. No contract, cancel, add or take away a family member at any time. No issues. Pay prorated for the days they had a membership that month. Great customer service. Make sure you cancel the silly lifetime magazine or they will charge you a small fee after a few months btw. This place is clean and Fantastically upkeep on the facilities! The staff is beyond attentive, and the clientele is better than many other gyms I've been to. The clientele here is also very nice and respectful unlike some other gyms I've been to. I was impressed right off the bat by lifetime, after 1800 I put in a request for a price quote, and after standard business hours, I had an email in 10 minutes with info and a tour scheduled within 20 minutes. The membership maybe a bit pricy, but so many of the classes are included. One of my favorite features is the very warm pool, it's at least 80 degrees! Lifetime has a cafe, that has some amazing chipotle quesadillas. The one complaint is I haven't gotten them to start doing a late night yoga class. Definitely would rather spend the extra money for the facilities here verse any other gym in town. read more

This is an ok gym for an extraordinary price. Some of the employees are disrespectful and want your money more then they want to actually help you. The equipment is solid but it's just about the same as you would see at the YMCA or Aspen, heck probably even Anytime Fitness. The locker rooms are pretty nice and kept clean, the food in there "cafe" is more overpriced than their membership fees (who knew that was even possible). For the price and quality of service I would suggest avoiding this place at all costs. There are much more cost efficient and still great options- Aspen is much cheaper and not far off the quality while the Y is still cheaper and has almost identical quality on every front (and has great service!). But overall the experience was below average and the price was outrageous, wish I would have cancelled sooner. read more

I have a personal trainer there who has pushed me to do more than I ever could have imagined.
