I had a very disappointing experience at Lifetime Fitness on Rochester Road. The customer service was unacceptable, and several staff members Aaron being one of them along with the other front desk staff were rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. Instead of making members feel welcome or addressing concerns respectfully, they came across as indifferent and unhelpful. I was able to get my CCW license faster than it took to get approved as a guest at this gym which says a lot. For a premium fitness club that charges premium prices, I expected professionalism and efficiency. Instead, I experienced poor communication, a frustrating process, and employees who seemed uninterested in helping. For a gym that charges premium membership fees, I expected a much higher level of professionalism and customer care. Unfortunately, this experience fell far below those expectations. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and provides better training so future members are treated with the respect and courtesy they deserve. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this location. read more

Was talking on my phone not bothering anyone suddenly an employee peaked her head out of her office room and rudely told me to be quiet disrespecting me in the hallway then we had an intense verbal exchange and she caused a seen I mean she crashed out so bad. After the scene she caused I left the club and the next morning the Shelby township manager called me and told my membership has been canceled. I got harassed and disrespected then banned just because Karen thinks this her parents club and she can tell anyone in there to shut up. Place is a joke they charge 180$ a month acting like its a country club yet they never bother replacing the old machines nor educate the employees on how to respectfully approach patrons. read more

I was recently invited by a friend to attend this facility as a guest. I played some open play pickleball and then joined a private game after being invited to play with 3 guys that needed a fourth player. I finished up my games with them and went back into open play and Brian Blankenship came over to me to let me know I could not come back to open play. (He went out of his way just to squash my ability to play with my friend) My friend and I were both disappointed as there was more than enough courts available for us to play a final game. I was considering joining the gym but I will definitely not be joining now after my terrible experience with Brian Blankenship. He must have an inferiority complex or something. I was told by other members here that he is always like this and he has a reputation for being a real jerk. He clearly let whatever small amount of power he has in his position, go to his head. Someone should instruct him that he works for the members to have a great experience, not to be the pickleball warden. I will not be attending this facility again. read more

There are many reviews about this location. I've been a member since 2018, yes there are pro's and con's like any other gym, but you need to feel it out to decide when it works for you; Don't come on a Monday night after 5pm. If you want to use the squat racks come anytime Sunday after 11. Saturday anytime after 12pm. Most evening nights are ok but it will be busier. If you go before 4pm you can get on anything. They redid the unisex hot sauna, which is nice and slightly bigger, had hoped for infrared but oh well it's still pretty good. The pool area in the summer is great, especially if you have kids. Many slides and types of pools to accommodate little and slightly older. The locker rooms are always kept up well (except during the summer, the family room is NOT kept up well at all...) The showers could be kept cleaner during peak times as well as the hot tubs (just this past year). The swim membership for a junior competing is kind of pricey, had to reduce that out of my package due to the price and unavailability to make it 2x due to my schedule. Overall, the equipment is usually maintained pretty well. I was disappointed when they removed quite a few of the bikes out of there, ultimately I just stopped biking as the recumbent bikes are absolute garbage. I do feel that this gym does need to update a lot of the equipment and utilize the space a bit more efficiently. Other than that, I consistently get a great work out with many modalities to choose from, in a nice setting with a couple days of the month that it's too busy for me but not enough to look elsewhere. I've had memberships at the other local big box gyms and they simply suck. Lifetime is the best within the area unless you want to have multiple small boutique gym memberships, if you don't want that, LT is the place. read more

Unfortunately this location has massively fell off. I've been going for 10+ years and this is the worst I've ever seen it. Crowded to the point of the facilities being unusable. Anytime after normal work hours you won't be able to do the exercises/lifts you want in the gym, you'll wait an hour+ to play basketball, and you'll have to stand basically pressed up against the wall in the sauna. Bad organization across the board. You'd think with all those people they'd want to keep the cafe open but it closes before I even get there every night. The pickleball is nice I guess but really not many positives to mention here. Would potentially be worth it at half the price. read more

The Rochester lifetime does not have the environment of a luxury gym and feels more like a pseudo country club. There is a beautiful outdoor pool, which in the summer is a zoo. If you are a woman, and you want to use the dry sauna, it is co-ed, which I find to be bothersome. Often men will try to talk to you while you are sweating profusely. Uncomfortable, and not because it is 145 degrees. That said, I am fond of the latest, most brilliantly engineered equipment, steam shower in the ladies locker room, and fitness classes, especially yoga. Though life has its pros, it is not the best fit for a young woman looking to get a good workout in a more spa-like fitness center. I'm quite shocked that the ratings for this gym aren't higher. The gym is always clean, they have amazing classes, and plenty of space for weights. This location has much more space/equipment compared to the Troy location. Bonus: they have towels! (Screw you LA Fitness). We love the pool in the summer. Where else can you get smoothies delivered poolside before your workout? Our experience signing up with Nolan was wonderful- no salesperson tactics or pressure. Nolan took his time and showed us around the gym and gave us all the information we needed before we decided to become members. Why does this only have 3 stars? The gym is always clean. They have amazing classes and a wide variety of workout equipment. They have an amazing steam room in the locker room and a great cafe. I love the protein shakes- especially the Mocha Madness shake. You can add flax seeds, chia seeds, peanut butter, expresso, etc. they also have vegan protein and almond milk! Here we go again!!! (13.Feb.17 ) I am dealing with some health issues that require me to work out religiously 3 days per week. Because of these issues, stretching becomes the most important part of my workout. Rochester LTF has a stretching rack that I absolutely depend on. Unfortunately, for me it seems like 4, 5 times a year, the trainers take over the stretching area, and strap on an inflatable outdoor projection screen, for days on end. The 3 previous times, I informed local management of the issue, and recommended alternative solutions. E.g. They could use an 'old school' projection screen, as they have many places they could hang one, or move the rack elsewhere during the trainers events. Selling the old school option, with the fact that they are cheaper to buy, cheaper to run, and silent too. Rating 5 stars for being one of the best all around gyms in the detroit area, clean, well equipped, outdoor pools in summer, etc, Member since 2002! -4 stars for the fact local management does not seem to care, and is unresponsive !!! read more

Have been a member since my parents took me when they first opened up and the price was $70 for two adults and kids under 12. Fast forward to 2021 my fiancé and I are on a plan together for $130 with no kids. It use to be a 24/7 club but that has been good and gone now, rates went up as well with no compensation for the missing hours. I can never get a straight answer from management about what the club is doing and mostly get the short end of it. I don't recommend my friends to the gym because of Lifetimes lack of care. It's just one of those things that I've been a member for so long that I continue to go but usually get annoyed on a regular basis. read more

This facility has definitely gone downhill. For the amount they ask of you for their membership, everything should be MUCH better. It always smells when you walk in.. like a dirty disgusting smell. The machines look like they hardly clean them. Their child room is absolutely gross! It smells like dirty diapers and you just feel disgusting when in there. I know they had to close it down because a child got sick and they had to sanitize the whole place (which made me wonder, why they weren't doing that every day). The cafe has gotten worse too, the quality. The lettuce never looks fresh... old brown pieces and they serve that. The tables are never wiped down. They serve kids meal with sliced oranges that just look awful. Again, this place isn't inexpensive, so that's unacceptable. I canceled my membership and don't think I'll rejoin anytime soon. read more

I would have given lifetime fitness a 5 star but they changed there hours from 24/7 to closing from 12am To 4am. That's the perfect time for some of us. I get to work at 5:00am. This is a breach of contract if you ask me. I'm sure you don't care about losing a life long member anymore and many could see that now. You know you have something great going on so you don't care about losing here and there. I enjoy and enjoyed many things here. I was even a vip member at one point. $250 a month. Hands down the best fitness place! They have everything you can imagine. The cleanliness would be a 11 out of 10, plenty of cardio equipment to use and a TON of machines and free weights to work with. The only issue with this club is since it is so nice and popular it can be hard to find a parking spot between the hours of 4:30pm-7pm AND it is a bit pricy. BUT worth every penny if you actually utilize everything that is offered to you. The entire staff is very friendly and willing to answer any questions you have. I recommend everyone to at least try the place out on a pass! You will fall in love with the place. read more

I upgraded my membership to come to this gym. I usually go to Shelby Township. Like Shelby Township this gym has more kids than adults. You couldn't even go on the hot tubs because kids were in there. Hot tubs need to be for adults only period! I was a Lifetime member for 4 years and left as I thought they never listened to the people paying the bills. Every day and night kids take over the pool area. You can't find a lounge chair, they are in every pool and I've already had enough. You can't relax and we're the ones paying the bills. Kid time at pools needs to be more limited especially on the weekends when people who work all day only have the weekend. This gym quite frankly is worse than Shelby Township. It doesn't seem clean. All of these Lifetime Fitness locations need new management and corporate needs to start listening to the people paying the bills. read more

I am a Founding member of this club. Joined in March 2002 before it opened up and have paid every month since November 2002. I frequent this club 4-5x / week including this morning. This club has declined and is a product of both the local leadership and corporate greed. The increasing rates with the excuse of providing us with an onyx level club giving us free tampons, razors, mouthwash, qtips and shampoo/conditioner which by the way is not wanted by any of us. Unfortunately, the only useful item was body wash which is now hit or miss whether it will be there so I bring my own. The new equipment is actually ok EXCEPT the TRX monkey bars that nobody knows how to use unless you pay a trainer. It takes up 25% of the weight machine space. It was organized better before with treadmills in front of the TVs, which I loved. Next comes the nail in the coffin. Reduction in open hours in order to deep clean the club and the womens locker room is a filthy mess. I haven't seen the showers power washed in at least 6 months and every time I walk in them (I'm early a.m. so nobody has used them before me),l They are filled with long hair stuck to the walls and clumps on the floor. Today was particularly gross to see hair all over the free shaving lotion. It's a breeding ground for warts and athlete's foot. Please know that I am not blaming the overnight crew. They are great and it's obvious staff has been reduced as a cost savings. So, for these reasons, I have taken my $$ and joined EDGE Fitness for $9.99/month. read more

I joined this club years back, being close to work and having all the gym equipment and amenities to workout, shower, and leave right from the club to work in the morning. I have loved the club in the past, but now have a few dislikes and am most likely going to cancel. They are now not 24 hours which isn't a huge deal but I do feel a bit rushed in the morning because I can't get in until 4am. The membership dues are continuing to increase as I was told to expect another jump January of 2020. The men's locker rooms are always clean and kept but the water pressure in the showers are absolutely horrid. There's 1 good shower that has good water pressure. My RV camper has better water pressure than 90% of the showers in the mens bathroom, and that is sad. I myself use lifetime to workout, sauna, shower and head to work. Being there from 4am-5:30am, I don't use the cafe, classes, training sessions or LT bucks. With Edge Fitness opening up directly across the street, that has matched gym equipment, a sauna, and shower area for 10$ monthly, I will be cancelling soon as 4 other previous members quit and have joined Edge. For someone that only uses LT for the gym equipment, shower, and sauna, it's a bummer there isn't a cheaper level membership available. There's no sense for me to pay $90+ for the same experience I can get at Edge for such a cheaper price. read more

However, I came to find out that it did not include outdoor pool use and that was an additional seasonal fee. Nowhere on the website did it state this. I called the manager, Steve, and informed him of this and he was not helpful and was very rude. I don't know how this facility continues to keep membership. They raised our gym status again, now we are Onyx Limited. A few years ago we were gold, then platinum, now Onyx Limited. Apparently theres a normal Onyx, the Onyx Limited is the cheaper of the two, and then theres Diamond status. They keep upgrading our gym and membership fees but adding small benefits that aren't worth it. Since my last review when they took away the 24 hours and upgraded our fees/status we now have all new treadmills, not half new as previously mentioned, in addition our bathrooms now have a special lock for the locker and supply styling gel, and Q-Tips! WHOOPTY DOO! OH! They also put a laminate hardwood flooring throughout the common areas. So instead of gold prices, we are now paying Onyx Limited prices for less gym hours and these lame upgrades. I joined planet fitness in addition to LifeTime when they took away the 24 hours so I still use both of them but if LifeTime makes the Rochester club a Diamond level I don't imagine I'd stick around paying $150 a month for it. By the way, all the construction above was not unnoticed by your members, they have construction nonstop and have areas constantly roped off and do it during peak hours. I've been a member since 1999. And I have to say I have seen a decline at this facility. The parking is pretty brutal and the life café has gone down a lot. I love the Pilates team they're amazing but I don't think that you should have to pay for a group Pilates class it should be part of your gym membership. I understand private training but Pilates reformers group classes should be included with the gym membership. I'm disappointed to see that the gym is closed down from 12 AM to 4 AM that's one of the things that I liked about Lifetime Fitness as well is that they are open 24 hours. You get what you pay for it used to be great quality but they really do nickel and dime you to death and the extras that they charge you for are really pretty pricey. I do feel that the quality of their personal trainers at least what I've experienced is A+ . the cost of the A+ trainers are almost unattainable now. It's unfortunate because if you have a special condition like a hip replacement or knee replacement or shoulder replacement you need someone who's going to be able to give you the right exercises so you don't injure yourself. I've enjoyed being a member since 1999 and I've gone to other places here in there to see how I would like it but I still keep coming back for the feel of a resort type workout place. What I don't like is due continually go up every year and I don't see a return on my investment for the extra price. read more

Crap place, they make up their own rules and don't follow them. When you come in for the tour they give you a bunch of sweet talk about this place. They promise you the world and DO NOT DELIVER. They tell you that you can put your membership on flexible hold if you have to go out of town, what they don't tell you is that you need to do it two months in advance. Then when you call customer service they are NOT helpful at all. They put you on hold and then disconnect the call. I HAD TO CALL FOUR TIMES!!! They tell you that if their machines ever break they will have them fixed the next day. I waited over a week for them to fix ONE. The men's locker room is always dirty, with towels all over the floor. Lifetime put's a good act but in reality they will suck the money out of you for a so-so gym experience. NOT worth the high price. I have been to much more economical gyms with much better customer service and not so many bylaws and rules meant to make THEM money and ultimately steal as much money from YOU the customer. My suggestion, look for a smaller gym where you will actually be treated well and not dumped to the side and treated like a monthly payment. THIS PLACE SUCKS!!! AND BEWARE if they have already reeled you in they have a crappy magazine that if you don't opt out they will charge you for every month. Its basically a bunch of ads and lousy articles. Anything to take as much money from you as possible. THIS PLACE WILL STEAL your money and all you get in return is a CRAPPY experience, lousy service and a bunch of stuck up management help. Where can I start besides that I was a member for three years and barely used the club. Of all the clubs the one in Troy it's better than any other but let's go back to RH. Left my son twice at kids room while I took private tennis lessons and twice they called me to pick him up after first 15 mns. And I was charged for the full hour of tennis lesson btw. The third time I decided to leave my 8 year old with him and the things I heard that happened at the overcrowded room left me with chills. Trust me the girls that are in that room do not pay attention at what's going on. The outside pool not only overcrowded but people will stop by early to leave their belongings on the chairs even though they weren't even there. I cancel my membership and will never go back. I normally work out at the Troy lifetime because it's 3 miles from my house, but Troy is lame because they don't have the outdoor pool, thus, I am forced to drive out to the Rochester pool. Not a big deal though, the space outside more than makes up for it, as does the lap only pool (a far cry from my local community pool that has 3 lanes for lap swimming, and they are ALWAYS occupied). I hate to say it but I'm going to anyway, the staff at this location seems to be a little, eh, unfriendly? It's like they know this isn't my home gym and choose not to be friendly because they know I'm only there for the pool....and the workout area seems to be a little smaller than Troy, or am I seeing things? Parking can be a bit of a drag as well, but lots of room in the locker room and I forgot how nice the endless supply of towels is here. read more

In short, you get what you pay for. I've been a member at Lifetime for almost 2 years now. Before joining Lifetime, I had a membership at Bally's Fitness, which I only paid $100 per year for. This place is huge. If you want to swim, they have a lap pool and both indoor and outdoor leisure pools. The locker rooms are nicer than Bally's ever was, and you don't need to bring towels with you... Ever... They have smaller towels you can keep with you when you work out, and larger towels for after a shower. You don't need to purchase your own lock, as your membership card slips into the locker, releasing a key. If cardio is your game, there are PLENTY of machines here. The machines range from the basic LED readout to the full screen digital displays your iPod/iPhone can plug into. I suggest getting the LifeConnect app, which keeps track of your workouts when you plug in. LifeTime also has classes day and night, at no charge. They also offer "Team" classes (weight loss, boot camp etc...) at a fee. These classes have personal Trainers, and while expensive, you do get your money's worth. There is a large free weight area, with a large amount of weights to choose from. There are also a lot of machines to chose from, and even when there are a lot of people, you will rarely, if ever, wait to use equipment. The LifeCafe, which is attached has good foods and shakes for post workouts, and they even sell supplements. This location also has a spa and chiropractic services. While this place doesn't have the prices of the "Low Cost" gym around town, it has the services to make up for it. read more

I feel that the value of their product has diminished in relation to the amount they have raised their monthly dues. Clean, Clean, Clean!!! Love the fact that you don't have to bring your own lock. They provide that for you. Very clean, and they offer so much more than most Gyms Steam room, Sauna, all the towels you need. Theres lots of machines so I never have to wait on anything. Staff is friendly & Helpful.
