At the life cafe

I am OBSESSED with this gym. Everyone here is genuinely so kind and the facility just looks like a spa/resort, it's gorgeous here! My partner, co worker, and I go here and we love working out here. The group fitness classes are top notch! I love taking zumba, hip hop cycle, and aquatics. They also have such a great pickleball courts and community that is very well organized and fun to be around. The life cafe is very delicious and affordable and I appreciate how clean and sanitary they are with our food. Overall, I really like this gym resort and k highly recommend it to anyone considering to join.

We have been members for 2 months and I have no regrets! We pay 310 mnthly for a family of 4. The k Lu thing not included is the outdoor pool but we don't care as our children prefer indoors, especially on a hot day. They get the pool without the scorching sun. We split our time between Columbia and Fairfax. Our daughters have swim lessons every sat at the Fairfax location. Columbia is a bigger gym and tends to have more classes, but we love them both. No complaints

1. The lifeguard closed the Spa at noon and advised that it would be open back up in 30 min. 2. After 45 min I called the front desk to gat a status on when the Spa wound open again. The young man at the front desk advised the the Spa is broken and will not be back up anytime soon. 3. As I was getting ready to leave, I saw a man adding chlorine to the Spa. While walking out, I asked another lifeguard what was wrong with the Spa and he said it needed chlorine.

I have been a member at this location for over a month now. I switched gyms because my former gym reduced the number of classes it was offering and I was getting bored. Here's my assessment and breakdown: PARKING: UGH, need I say more. Since there is a lot of members, you spend time circling the lot to find a space. CLASSES: This gym offers so many, I always have a hard time deciding which one I want to take on any given day. The downside is the classes are so popular, and the gym has so many members, that if you don't arrive early you might not find a spot. Fortunately, my schedule allows me to generally arrive 15 minutes before a class to wait in line. I think in 2005, when the gym opened its doors, they did not anticipate that they would have so many members, otherwise, they would have made the studios larger. My favorite classes so far are: TCX, Insanity, H.I.I.T., Tabata, and No Limits Cardio. The classes are all very challenging, and I like that they use different props (dumbbells, resistance bands, steps, gliders, etc). The instructors are all amazing. SPIN CLASS - Unfortunately, I took a spin class and didn't like the bikes as the GEAR uses a knob versus a button/digital screen, like at my former gym. It just makes it challenging for me to follow the instructor with a knob versus seeing a digital number. (They do have a digital screen for rpm, etc.) YOGA CLASS - I have only taken one class, FIRE, which combines yoga and cardio. The room was so hot for me it was almost unbearable. I was sitting in the room before class started and was worried if I would make it. I have a low threshold for extreme heat or cold. I stuck it out and survived. I wish they offered a few classes at a lower temperature. It appears most of the classes are set between 75-85. EQUIPMENT: Weight Machines - they have a variety of machines, but if the gym is busy, which is usually the case, you will have to wait until it frees up. Cardio Machines - an abundance and variety of machines. Fortunately, you never have to wait. Most machines have its own tv. STAFF: Account Manager - I had the pleasure of interacting with Tayler Johnson when I had a free two week trial. When it was over, I waited a month or two before joining Life Time as I was waiting for my membership with my former gym to expire. There may have been a question or two that she had to get back to me on and she was good about the follow up. We exchanged a few emails, and she was very timely in her responses. She also helped me with my membership registration. She has great customer service! Front desk - They have been pleasant and greet me when I arrive to check in. Not sure why I read some bad reviews as that has not been my experience. Personal trainers - I haven't used these services, but I was told there are different packages to accommodate your budget, either individually or in groups. I believe I heard for individual training it is $100 per hour. Oh my, I can't even wrap my head around paying that much. It hurts just paying the monthly dues, much less an additional $100 on top of that. WOMEN'S ROOM: They provide complimentary toiletries and accessories (mouthwash, lotion, tampons, blow dryers, towels). I wish they provided toilet seat covers. Shocking that they don't considering everything else they provide. I don't like that there are big mirrors at the sinks directly across from the locker rooms. Some people such as myself are shy or self conscience and I wouldn't want others to see me in the mirror while I am changing. LOCKERS: To lock the locker, your membership card goes in the slot inside of the door and you also use the key they provide which has the number of the locker imprinted on it. On occasion, the key has gotten stuck and I had to ask for assistance. In between the lockers, there is a changing room with locks which is nice. POOL: There are indoor and outdoor pools with water slides. I haven't used them in a few years so can't really comment on them. BASKETBALL/RAQUETBALL/SQUASH/ROCKWALL: I haven't used these so can't comment. LT APP: Love it! I can check the class schedules to see if there are any changes. You can also make reservations for classes (i.e. spinning) or to reserve one of the courts, make an appt for LifeSpa, or place an order on the app for LifeCafe. The app also has tutorials and workout videos which I haven't tried yet, but plan to use when I can't get to the gym. You can also see payments and your gym usage should you need that info for gym reimbursement through your employer or healthcare provider if they offer it. As a newbie, despite some minor nuisances such as packed parking lot and classes, I like what the gym offers so far. It seems to be a good fit for me and I hope to see body results this coming year. Here's to wishing you good health. Hope you found this review comprehensive and helpful.

Ask the Community - Life Time

You've really got to wonder when LT is going to go back to their previous normal hours? They close very early these days, particularly when compared to all other local gyms. Price is up but available hours are way down. When will they change this?

Did anyone get infected at the Columbia location to date?

Not thats been reported no

How much are the gtx or alpha classes? Are they priced monthly and based on number of times per week attended etc?

128

Does anyone know of the Concept2 rowers have Bluetooth?

I do not think so

Is the eucalyptus room still available? Any improvements since renovation cosmetics (floor etc) aside? Debating whether to renew my membership. Haven't been back since renovation.

I am not familiar with a eucalyptus room at this time. Most renovations were rearranging the floor to make more space

Is pool saltwater?

No the pool is not a saltwater pool

Can someone recommend which spin class/instructor is best, ie is more focused on pedaling in time with the music cadence than talking? I went to one class and it just straight talking and not a very good workout. :/

Cycling instructors have to talk a little in order to provide basic directions (i.e. when to speed up or gear up), lead warm ups/stretching, and make LTF announcements they are required to make. Some instructors are more talkative, over the top… Read more

How much is a monthly plan?

$89 for singles $139 for couples $12 for kids 13 years old and younger

What are the outdoor pool hours for kids?

I believe it's all day with a parent and they have to do a swim test t swim unaccompanied

Is there a boxing room?

No

The employees at this location sided with the hostile gym member (later on in the altercation the gym member made it obvious that she has an external friendship with the supervisor, Sarah Claunts). Sarah Claunts, the day time gym supervisor, spoke to me in a condescending and sarcastic manner while I explained to her the situation. Long story short: I played music softly (emphasis on softly because the volume was less than halfway on) while warming up in an open workout studio. The hostile gym member was on the opposite end of the room doing their workout. As soon as they heard my music, they immediately started screaming "NO NO TURN YOUR MUSIC OFF I AM NOT GOING TO HEAR IT". Considering the individual was so hostile, I ignored them and turned my music down. The individual then began to approach me while saying "IM SPEAKING ENGLISH DONT YOU UNDERSTAND ENGLISH?! TURN IT OFF". At this point, the individual was now hovering over me while I sat on the ground, all while they clenched their fist and screamed so aggressively I even felt spit come out of their mouth. I explained this situation to the staff, even recorded the situation, and all they could say was delete the footage and don't play music or record ANYTHING/ANYONE in our facility. I immediately sent an email to Columbia association explaining and they could not even apologize for the way I was treated. All they asked was to speak on the phone. I said I wanted to speak through email and they did not want to continue investigating this matter. Attached are photos of the obvious hostile member and how close they were to hitting me. I don't know how else to go about this matter besides warning other people to avoid Columbia in its entirety.

BUT half of them are broken and usually takes weeks to repair if ever. They're down to 1 working stair master. Coming from a gym that either repaired or replaced any broken machine with in 48 hours this is disappointing. 3 of their leg machines are broken. Machines weren't spaced out at all to a lot for social distancing. 2. An employee checked my temperature at the door and went over the rules with me, but then proceeded to work out himself with no one monitoring the entrance. Nobody was going around cleaning machines -- it was complete honor system. Once the employee finished his work out, he left and nobody was watching the gym at all. 3. They couldn't even be bothered to add more wipe stations so that you don't have to walk half way across the gym to get and throw out a hand wipe. No new wipe stations, no new garbage cans to dispose of them. This encourages you to walk past other gym members. 4. Since nobody was enforcing masks, people regularly had them off. The employee told me you can have it off when lifting or doing cardio, but people were forgetting to put them back on and their cramped layout and lack of wipe stations/disposal bins encouraged people to get close to one another. 5. No signs on the walls about masks, no markers on the floor. 6. While on a cardio machine, I had a guy like 4 feet away from me on an adjacent machine not wearing a mask because he was working out. 7. When I came in, they told me that they purchased hand sanitizer. They pretty much bought 3 big push bottles of hand sanitizer, but they couldn't even be bothered to space them out on opposite sides of the gym. 2 of the 3 were on the counter at the entryway and the other one was by the Cardio equipment -- again ensuring that you have to walk past people to sanitize your hands. The only things that they've done that are positive: They closed the locker rooms with the exception of being able to use the bathrooms and told guests not to use the water fountains. They had the employee check my temperature, but since he was off working out himself it was easy for people to sneak by (also since he left early). I called the mainline from the parking lot and expressed my concerns and the guy on the phone was nice enough and told me that if I didn't feel safe I could suspend my membership for 6 months, which he said that he would do for me. He told me that they were going to get signs and filters etc next week. But, truth be told, that just made me angry because they obviously weren't ready to reopen and did anyway. I can't believe this was the best they could come up with after having 3 months to think about how to safely reopen. I told them that I would monitor their Facebook page and may come back when they've made positive changes, but upon thinking about it more, it really angered me how lightly they are taking customer safety. With about $500 they could have gone from 1 out of 10 in terms of Covid safety to at least a 4-10. It's either laziness, incompetence or apathy. I intend on looking for a new gym this weekend that's taking proper safety measures.
