We (4 adults) stayed in the quad room, which was a charming loft-style room with the bed on the lower floor and two singles in the upstairs portion of the room. The room felt spacious due to vaulted ceilings. The bathroom was nice. We received free wifi for all of our devices and it worked well. The hotel is old but was clean and beautiful, it's age not an inconvenience (although the elevator was a bit scary!) The hotel is in a great location. Walking, it was 7 minutes from the market/belfry and 25 minutes from the train station. Don't make our mistake though!--if you have rolling luggage, take a bus or taxi, don't walk! The town is all cobblestone and it's a hard walk with rolling luggage! What impressed us most was the service! We arrived early, but the nice receptionist personally checked to see if our room was ready (it was). She then set us up with a map (all the hotels seem to do this) but helped point stuff out so we could make the most of our short stay. Finally, discovering that we would be leaving at 5:30am the next day (which is outside of the hotel's reception hours of midnight to 8am), she helped us check out, arranged a taxi for us, and then arranged a free 5am breakfast for us, 3 WHOLE HOURS before the breakfast opened to hotel guests!!! The next morning, the man preparing the hotel's breakfast was ready for us with fruit, bread, yogurt, cereal, and juice/coffee, and opened the door so we could get to our taxi. This all very much impressed us and was unexpected. We all plan to stay in Brugge again someday and will be staying at Hotel Jan Brito again.

Our room was cool, had all kinds of nooks and crannies. The little bar is actually really great, small but open late. One of the overnight guys wasn't that cool, but otherwise the staff was really great. The location could scarcely be better, right off of the spot on the Dijver where everyone takes that one picture ... but the street isn't too crowded with people.

The hotel is right above the square, next to the performing arts venue, and it happened to be hosting a carnival while we were there. We immediately set off for the center of town, in search of all things cheesy tourist. It was a short walk, made along wide streets. Our room was brightly decorated in black and white, with modern bath. It overlooked the market, and though there was a carnival, the window and shades were sufficient for blocking the noise and lights, and the comfortable bed and linens helped for a good night's sleep. While the room was quite modern, the stairwells and common areas were older, though still well-cared for. The staff at check-in and check-out were quite helpful, selling us post card stamps, mailing post cards, and checking our luggage so that we could do more exploring. The hotel is also quite centrally located to the walking path around the city, which we enjoyed during our morning run. And it's less than a mile walk from the train station, so safe for us to walk even with our large American suitcases.

It's faster to take the stairs -There was an old towel hanging on our door. I booked two rooms for my family trip to Brugges. I typically am a Hilton or Marriott girl but they…read morehave neglected to sink their fangs into Brugges so I, reluctantly, deviated from my usual and this place seemed like a good choice. The location is pretty good, most of the stuff you want to do in the center of town is definitely within a short walk. The building itself has a lot of history, it used to be someone important's house, and this is reflected in the architecture of the structure. There is a large, winding staircase, literally the bottom of the bannister supports is a goose that appears to be being prepared to be pate. Whoever lived here and made that decision has interesting taste. Anyway, the "quirkiness" of the place doesn't end there. In order to get to our rooms with all of our luggage, we needed to take TWO very small elevators. Getting to our room was a bit of a maze and the route is carpeted so if you're an overpacker like I am, dragging the luggage can definitely be a challenge. Our rooms were both impressively large with very nice-sized bathrooms. One of our rooms had a decent view of the street, the other room had a view of a building's wall and a small alleyway aka no view whatsoever. They have a limit on how low you can turn the thermostat, I believe it is 21 degrees which to me, is a bit high. If you are sensitive to sleeping temperature, this may be an issue. I have never had a hotel dictate the temperature of my room before. Another problem is the wifi. In our room, the hotel wifi had a password. When I asked what the password was, the they told me there was no password but there was on my end and I was unable to connect. When I was close enough to the lobby, the password requirement disappeared and I was able to connect to the wifi and as long as it stayed connected, I was ok in the room. The minute my device disconnected for some reason, I had to put on my pants and slippers and walk out of the room close enough to the lobby for the wifi to connect to that again. This was, as you can imagine, annoying. The biggest problem for me was the bed. It was not comfortable. It was much firmer than I like and than what I think is normal. When I scooched to the middle to cuddle my partner, I noticed a GIGANTIC hill in the mattress in the middle, as if we were both sleeping in sags of the bed that had been left from the many other guests. It's time to change the mattress, Hotel Navarra. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room itself was quiet, we did not hear anything except for the few times other guests would walk in the hallway in front of our room or there was noise in our alley facing the windows.

I was very impressed with the modernity of the room. It had a button-controlled light system installed by the door, the desk, and the bed, with options for dim lighting, table lighting, or full lighting. It was also equipped with two outlets and USB ports, one by the desk and one by the bed. The bathroom was large and accessible - support beams surrounding the WC and a big shower with two wide doors. Not sure if they're all like that, but I was digging the big shower! It was also extremely quiet. Needless to say, I slept wonderfully and wish I could have stayed another night!

We had room 7 which was on the top floor of the main building and it was nice and as described - a triple with a double and one single. The room was comfortable and had some nice space to store store luggage and other things. The bathroom was nice with great shower pressure and plenty of hot water and a full closing door (unique for some European countries). Note 1: the staircases are narrow and winding so could be difficult for some with mobility or elderly - so would suggest you confer your room location with the host before you book. Note2: There was no refrigerator in room in case you need one you might be able to arrange. Note 3: Breakfast was just "okay" with cereal, sliced meats and cheese and fresh warm croissants. The only protein were hard boiled eggs. The hosts/workers were friendly and helpful. Internet WiFi was free and worked well

The location is fantastic, right in the old town and an easy walk down to the Market Square and the canal area. The hotel itself doesn't have parking, but there seemed to be a public parking garage right across the street (Dweersstraat). We parked in the huge public parking lot at Het Zand (Interparking 't Zand), which was less than a 5 minute walk, not too expensive, and easy to get in and out of from the R30. Like Emily T. mentioned, the hotel desk is not manned 24/7, so if you are arriving really early or really late, you'll definitely need to let them know. We got in late afternoon, and checkin was quick and friendly. They actually have two separate sets of rooms; some in the main part above the front desk and breakfast area, and some in a small outbuilding in the back. To get to those rooms you enter the main door, then walk out into the courtyard in the back, then into the outbuilding. We ended up with a room in that outbuilding, and it was charmingly fantastic. The courtyard is lovely, and while it rained for us, there were cafe tables and chairs so you could sit outside on a nice day. The room was pretty typical in size for a European hotel, but the bathroom was quite large actually. The entire place was really nicely appointed and cared for, and (most importantly) the mattress was fantastic. Breakfast wasn't included in our room rate so we didn't try it, but it looked like an average continual breakfast: muesli, yogurt, breads, cheeses, and cured meats. Overall a charming little hotel, and it would definitely be our first choice for another stay in Bruges.

The room was very clean, and well-cared-for. There was a carnival in the plaza that we so enjoyed, but we slept peacefully because the sound-proof windows were incredible. The champagne and chocolates we ordered were waiting for us on arrival, and we highly recommend treating yourself this way. The box quantity was so plentiful - we ended up purchasing this brand as gifts for family! Breakfast included a hot breakfast of eggs, breakfast meats, wafffles with wonderful toppings (nutella, jams, assorted flavored morsels, yogurts, wonderful breads, pastries, juices, and a self-serve coffee machine with many flavorful options. Location is a 12-15 minute walk to/from the train station - take the park path to avoid rolling luggage over so many pavers. Access to the main plaza and tower is a 12-15 minute walk with busy shopping streets all along the way. We felt very safe our entire time in Bruges. There are restaurants on the plaza. Beware of surprise requests after the meal to pay with cash instead of credit. A waiter at nearby De Hanze surprised us by insisting on cash instead of Visa, including calling me away from the table into the bar area. I gave some and charged the rest, but realized after that this was a hustle. In hindsight I regret not getting angry at the table and calling the waiter out in front of others. Infuriating. It's too bad, because the food was excellent. A favorite restaurant was La Gondola, Oude Burg 22, 8000 Bruges, Belgium. It was nothing from the street, but it was a pleasant dining room inside with wonderful service and a plentiful meal.

I enjoyed the view of the square (although it's under construction) and that they have a luggage room so that you can leave your items behind before you check in. I also really liked the rain shower head, although the bathroom got soaked every time I bathed because of the typical shower curtain-less/wall-less showers that are common in Europe. The only thing that mildly grossed me out was a piece of hair I saw in the drain. But that was nothing.
