a produce section of a grocery store
    Michaela P.

Had to check out lidl being it just opened a couple days ago. I think there are some tough critics out there because I hadn't heard great things. But let me preface people are comparing it to a ShopRite which it absolutely is not. So yes if you are expecting to go in and have everything a regular supermarket has you will be disappointed. I am a frequent shopper at Aldi, so I knew what to expect. I was very pleased and the store certainly delivered on all the fronts. A huge bonus for me was to see they had a sanitizing station both inside and outside the store near the shopping carts. AND I was greeted several times on my way in by staff. The isles were well laid out and made complete sense. Upon entering you find the fresh produce and then you move into meat and on the outskirts specialty cheeses, tapas, hummus etc. I was excited about their bakery as that is the biggest thing I miss when shopping at Aldi. Got myself some piping hot croissants. They have their basic isles in the middle (you know what I'm referring to) and frozen towards the back. What I absolutely love which I 100% expected are all are all the random items that you find. For example they have a whole section with deep fryers, sweatshirts, laundry baskets, drinking glasses and so forth. Now again this isn't a regular supermarket where you have a deli counter and fresh Fish market. But I was definitely able to get some fun things like European desserts and chocolate that I can't find elsewhere. Also a couple of interesting frozen meals for when I don't feel like cooking. Also took advantage of several weekly specials so my bill wasn't as steep as it could have been. Prices are generally cheaper than a Wegmans and their veggies seemed to be cheaper than most supermarkets. Will be back when I'm looking for niche fun items.

I ventured over to Lidl after a friend recommended checking it out. The store has a massive amount of space to accommodate shoppers without feeling like you're being crowded while browsing. When walking in, you're immediately met with a small selection of plants and adorable succulent gardens. There are some fantastic deals all throughout the store from produce to meat. They also carry speciality items for gluten-free and vegan shoppers, especially in the frozen section. There are also LIDL brand items available, which is great if you're looking to try new items/flavors of things like chips. Overall, Lidl is a great place to stop for some deals and bargain finds.

Love love love this portioned salmon! My favorite!

Serves its purpose. Meat is always fresh. Nothing negative to say about the place. Plenty of parking.

I forgot to mention they have extensive produce, meats, dairy, frozen goods and condiments. More than enough to keep you coming back.

I'll admit I was wrong. 11 months ago I said this store would be closed in 11 months. It took 12. Good riddance

Random Fact: Did you know that the building TJ's is in used to be an A&P? By looking at the…read morestructural appearance of the building, you can tell that it was. Moving on, since I had some spare time to kill before heading to the place where I needed to be at on a weeknight, I stopped here. The size of this store pretty much occupied half of the building. The size is almost the same as the one in Millburn, if not smaller. As with any Trader Joe's, they carried your typical groceries (snacks, cereal, cookies, frozen items, gourmet sodas, nuts, raisins, chocolate, etc.). The only exception, however, is that they didn't sell any liquor. I stopped in here to buy some roasted & unsalted sunflower seeds for home. They had them in stock. The lines at the register weren't long at all. After paying, I was gone. At the time I went, it wasn't too crowded. Maybe because it was a weeknight and there was no threat of severe winter weather. I can't speak about the parking lot as I didn't park there at the time I went. I walked here since I parked in the downtown area in favor of where I needed to be at a certain time. As far as negativity was concerned for this experience, there was none. The person at the register had a positive attitude. If you want to buy booze, the liquor store is next door (which still bears the A&P logo...). Overall, a flawless experience.

When I brought my vehicle's damage to the perpetrator's attention, she went full Karen and verbally assaulted me while denying her actions and initially fled the parking lot, not returning until just before the cops arrived. The store claimed they had no cameras in the parking lot to support my claim, because my own two eyes were not considered reliable enough. This Karen refused to take accountability, was irate, and played the victim card when police and the store associates arrived on the scene, while I remained calm, respectful, and cooperative throughout because I know how these situations go for POCs when we show the slightest negative emotion that could be misperceived as aggressive or a threat... especially when all other persons present are white. So how could she be the victim when I was the target of her hit-and-run? Not entirely sure, but whatever she did or said to the store associates and police officers worked. They were consoling her, sympathizing with her, and smiling at her throughout the situation while treating me like I was the a-hole responsible for this crazy woman's inability to self-regulate her emotions. The store sided with her, telling me as much while unapologetically spraying spit at me (yes, actual saliva from the store associate's mouth landed on my face multiple times), and no resolution was offered. The police so called filed a report which I discovered was never actually completed/filed when I followed up with their department. I was out $600 to repair the car with only my own photos as supporting evidence given the lack of store/police documentation. I escalated the matter to corporate who mailed me a $75 gift card... as if I was going to return and shop there to continue supporting their business. What a joke--I threw that garbage card out. Plenty of other grocery stores to shop at in Bergen County that don't participate in blatant racism.

This past weekend, we had a chance to experience something a little different -- a private event my cousin hosted there for his 30th birthday -- and it was fantastic. The event was a seated, sit-down dinner at the market, which isn't something they typically do, but they executed it really well. The evening started with passed appetizers (all delicious, as expected) and a table full of charcuterie. For dinner, my cousin opted for a seated "steak sampling" experience -- almost Brazilian steakhouse-style -- featuring tastings of five different cuts. There was also shrimp scampi served family-style, along with sides like roasted potatoes. Even with varying preferences for steak doneness across the group, they did an impressive job accommodating everyone. Huge props to the B&M team for pulling off something outside their usual offerings so seamlessly. This was my first time in the market itself, and it looked great -- clearly a great destination for quality meats and prepared foods. If I lived closer, I'd absolutely be a regular and would use them for catering for myself. Looking forward to more events with their food in the future!

I would often be able to pick up something every time I went but it seems as if they do not make as many vegetarian prepared meals as they used to. During 3 out of 4 of my last four visits, we were followed around by staff who stood there watching us at the end of the aisle or pretended to be putting something back on the shelf while we shopped. On two of those occasions the person left the customer service desk to follow us. On the other occasion it was one of the cashiers from self checkout. Not one person greeted us or asked if we needed help. So being followed around made me feel like I was being treated like a shoplifter. The first time the associate followed us and she walked between me and the end of the aisle. She was practically on top of me glancing at the items I had. I went down an aisle and she stopped about 8 feet away and pretended to be putting an item back in the shelf all while glaring over at us. I just brushed it off as i thought maybe I was overthinking it. The next time I was there one of the male cashiers was talking to another male cashier and they suddenly stopped talking as I walked by the checkout. The one proceeded to follow me staying behind the checkout lanes as I walked towards the frozen aisles. I went into the frozen aisle and turned to see him watching me from the end of the aisle. When I turned and stared at him back he walked away. The last time we were followed after browsing the prepared section. I couldn't find anything to eat so I walked towards the frozen section. The cashier was behind the service desk and immediately walked out as we went by and started following us. He stopped at the end of the aisle staring at us while we looked for a few minutes. I finally turned around because I had enough at this point and he walked away. I walked out without buying anything leaving myself with nothing for dinner because I'd rather miss a meal than give business to a store that treats its customers like thieves. I will no longer shop this store (or their other stores). The only reason I gave 2 stars is because I factored in good experiences too.
