You've probably seen Loon Fung in Chinatown, right in the middle of Gerrard Street, the largest Chinese supermarket there, complete with butcher and funky smells. Well, this is their larger and better store, right next to City Airport. It's a bugger to get to. Even if you have a car, the Crossrail works happening in its immediate vicinity have rendered Sat Nav systems a little bit useless as Factory Road now appears to be one way only. But perseverance pays off because you will literally be able to load your car up with all the stuff you can't buy elsewhere and not need to make this trip for another 3 months. There's free parking on site. A huge fruit and vegetable section, massive frozen section, you can buy industrial boxes of laundry detergent here (cheaper than at a mainstream supermarket.) A fishmonger, butcher and every single brand of soy sauce under the Sun. It's also possible to buy hotpot stoves/pots as well as as bamboo steamers and other kitchen objects popular in Far Eastern cuisine. It used to be a cash and carry which meant you needed a membership card to shop here. I've recently been told that I can get points on the card. No idea if it's still a cash and carry but it's worth getting a card for the loyalty points if you plan on being a frequent shopper.

This Tesco was large and had an electronics section, clothing, music, house hold stuff etc. Its almost like a crappy Target. Regardless, this is where I went grocery shopping. The produce section was probably the best part of the store. They had fresh fruits and veggies, assuming you go there in the day or two after the shipment arrived. I love the mini lettuce they had, as it was perfect for sandwiches. The dairy area was fine, including the cheeses, which were best if you bought Scottish or Welsh cheese. The meat was a different story. Ground red meat = terrible. Chicken = acceptable. Sausages = pretty good. Fish = pathetic. I guess I'm spoiled by much of the red meat I get in the US, so unless you got the top choice meat here, it was pretty poor in my opinion. This isn't a knock on the store though and did not contribute to the 3 star rating. Overall this place had enough stuff to be a good grocery store, but had many downsides. Price wise, it was a great deal locally.

Today (July 3) there was just one manned service point and an extensive Q for it. A member of staff informed us that that branch is in the process of being converted into self-service only. Thankfully there are several alternatives within the gtrading area of this store.

There is also a Pharmacy here. Parking is extensive and the supermarket is situated close to the other shopes nearby so you have the best of both worlds. Sadly, there are no Targets or Walmarts here, so I had to find another place to relieve the spending itch. This ginormous Tesco is perfect for that. Aisles and aisles of goodies to peruse. Lately I've really been enjoying their selection of Easter candy. The store is mainly a grocery store, though they do have clothing, electronics, household items, etc. I drag my husband here once a week for grocery shopping and am always impressed with how low the prices are. This place is always a madhouse, which I guess can be expected at one of the largest Tesco stores in existence. But it sure does make me feel at home!
