I did not shop the department store areas but I did find plenty of snacks and instant coffee for the hotel room. The fresh food area is spacious and clean with lots of options for "grab and go" and "heat and eat" if you're not looking to cook. The bakery was pretty darned amazing as well. Grocery section is tidy and well laid out with clear prices. Checkout went well. It was helpful to have a self-checkout kiosk (with an "English" button) so that I don't have to deal with language barriers. I also bought a "Migros" shopping bag for my collection. For those of you hailing from No. America, a small selection of Dr. Bronner's soap and body lotion is available at Basler LR. I hadn't thought that Dr. Bronner's could be had in CH, so the sight of it here makes me pretty happy. I was also taken by the Frieda Kahlo-inspired jewelry assortment, nicely-scented European soap bars and brightly colored ceramic-ware from Italy sold at both shops, from what I recall. Terrific English bookstore…read more Upstairs in this German bookstore, there is a large and excellent English bookstore. Extremely well stocked not only with light reading, bestsellers, and books about Switzerland, but with the latest titles form New York and London papers. Makes it eaasy to keep up with what's happening back home. Oh, and if you're longing for a taste of home, there is a well-stocked selection of British comfort food. Marmite, tinned puddings, Colman's mustard, all the brands Mum used.
