    HUGE brownies for 4.50 each.

During the week this place booms at lunchtime with office workers coming from nearby businesses to have their fill while sitting at the various tables that dot the open floor. Candelabras with lit candles adorn the tables and, with a touch of flair, brighten the entire scene. The food stalls offer a nice culinary selection from salads and smoothies to pasta dishes and pizza (and Flammkuchen) to SE Asian cuisine and more. There's also an organic fruit and veg stand for those interested in stocking up for home. Thursday and Sunday, if I'm not mistaken, are the 'long days' and the Markthalle is open for business until 8pm. I'm particularly fond of the bread stall that camps out near the front entryway. Not only do they bake lovely loaves that one wouldn't necessarily find elsewhere, they also bake massive brownies that are fairly close my American faves, brioche and lovely wee Gipfeli, among other treats. The other day I happened upon a fruit-oat-biscuit. It was tasty in a 'healthy' way. :) The olive bread 'sticks' are also quite tasty. The Markthalle is just a block, or so, from the main train station. It's worth your time if you're keen on a meal and a sit-down or produce and such to take-away. There are a few shops ringing the stalls and tables, so one is able to do a bit of browsing here as well. Bonus: tidy and gratis loos.

If you're looking for where all the hipsters go, then come here. Not only is this place a super trendy food hall, but the restaurants, well more like food stalls, here are all pretty affordable selling dishes more around 15CH as opposed to others around which can get up to 30CH on average. It's crazy how expensive food can get over here! Nonetheless, the options here are plentiful with restaurants serving cuisine from Greece to Thai to Argentina, and more! After looking at the options, my sis and I got an eggplant dish from the Turkish restaurant and a Paneer pea curry from the Indian one - forgot the names of both because I believe they were in German? Both tasted pretty great, full of flavor and seemed authentic, though TBH we may not be best at judging this. Portion sizes were good enough. The seating is spacious and free for all and the tables were tidy. They were even dressed up a bit with nice napkins and candles. Loved the decor as it felt like I was in a hipster cafe with the twinkly lights and natural aesthetics. Restrooms were clean (the cleanliness in Switzerland never ceases to amaze me!) Overall, this is a great place to grab a bite and take a break and I highly recommend it if you're near the train station or just around.

It is a department store having great super market on the basement level and good food court on the 5th floor (it says restaurant on the directory). It is very reasonable and lots of options for salad, desserts and fresh fruit juices. They offer three sizes at different prices. You can choose portion size too! On 4th floor, you can find some Switzerland souvenirs and cute accessories/toys. On basement level, there are salad bar and bakery and supermarket. Prices are good (a little cheaper than Coop store or other supermarket). PS: Dairy stuff, chocolate and bread are so good and cheap! Get some!!!

Manor is a department store of similar style/quality as Macy's (USA) or John Lewis (UK) BUT in the basement there is a grocery store/food hall that is simply amazing!! What's most amazing is it really can be your everyday place to shop - but in addition to your onions, potatoes, juice, milk, flour, cleaning supplies..... there is also an astounding selection of cheeses, meats, poultry, fish, fresh bakery for breads and cakes and a small café with pizzas, salads, stir-fry's (a bigger café is on the top floor). There is a good selection of organic produce (labelled BIO), and most of the fruit and veg are local and very seasonal. In the US and UK I got used to having access to pretty much anything at any time of the year, so the seasonality was a bit strange at first but now I look forward to changes in produce as the year progresses. Besides the cheese.... I mean food, there is a good selection of accessories (I LOVE tights and nearly passed out when I saw the selection), clothing for all the family, beautiful home goods, and a good selection of electronics. Prices are, well, Swiss but overall its not too bad and twice a year (Jan and July) there are really good sales. Maybe being within walking distance wasn't such a good idea..... ;-)
