Well, the ice cream isn't quite the absolute best we've ever tasted, but the combination of chocolate ice, chocolate cookie bits and hot fudge sauce on our serving convinced us it is pretty darned tasty! And yes, we are chocolate addicts, to be sure. And that's why we ordered the "Death by Chocolate" from their large selection, and we started devouring it so quickly that we forgot to make a photo until we were well into the dish (the photo we posted looks a mess, but truly it was delicious!). The prices are fine given the large servings, and the servers couldn't be nicer and quicker. The shop's interior is an intriguing collection of "old historical stuff" like washers, photo booths, etc., and outdoors there's a delightful kiddie playground, a great place to take the kids after they have their ice cream; it won't matter if it gets spills outdoors. While the selection of ice cream is average, vanilla and chocolate soft serve, twist, unextraordinary hard flavors (not homemade) we came here because it wasn't Dairy Queen or the more expensive Ben and Jerrys up the street. I did get Milky Way ice cream,mmmm, in a cup and was satisfied with the size of their small. I did not bother with the topping bar because it was a bit pricey and unexciting. What WAS worth the trip, and I recommend a trip to everyone, were the really neat collectibles everywhere. There was a very large gumball machine (out of order), a couple of old Wildcat gondolas with a wall of history, and so many other neat things to look at that I am glad there are nice places for kids to play outside,because I am certain that some of these items,like the old cigarette vending machine, are not kid-friendly . read more

Wrapping up a rainy day of shopping with a sweet treat for the kids (and the adults, who am I kidding!) We chose the "make your own" sundaes, which was a scoop of ice cream and a topping bar that the kids could go crazy with. There weren't as many toppings as the fro-yo chains, but there were enough for the kids to find ones they liked. The real charm to this ice cream parlor was the antique appliances and other antique collectibles. My mom even saw the early Wildcat Mountain gondolas that she had ridden with her dad when she was a little girl. We will definitely be back! read more

One of my favorite things is going out to ice cream. I love non chain, original shops and Lickety Splitz was the perfect place to go. We went there around 7pm and the place was busyyyy. A full parking lot and people all over the playground and tables. Luckily we didn't have to wait in line and ordered right away. I would of given them 5 stars but the lady working seemed like she could of careless what I was ordering I asked for turtle ice cream and she gave me PB cup. Don't get me wrong it was good, but I want what I want and I want what I'm paying for. Anyway we did the make your own sundae ($16 for 2 medium sundaes) I have never seen a toppings buffet like that before. They had all your basic toppings and some non traditional ones as well. We drove around for about 10-15 minutes, trying to find soft serve, local ice cream on Saturday night. We didn't want Coldstone, Ben & Jerry's or Friendly's (especially since free ice cream day was over). We finally found Lickety Splitz and got so excited - not only was there soft serve, but make your own sundae!! Despite craving the soft serve, I got wooed by Richardson's Purple Cow (low fat black raspberry ice cream with white & milk chocolate chips) and the sundae bar. My fiance did a simple soft serve twist. Unfortunately, we were too excited to notice that the prices weren't posted. And for good reason. $10 for 2 ice creams!! We paid it, but were not happy and were even pissed the next day. Plus, they didn't take credit cards, so I couldn't pay - as I only had a few dollars. And my fiance had to pay, despite me wanting to treat. I didn't see a sign anywhere saying no CCs... Why so expensive!? It marred our otherwise tasty venture. We ate quick and skeddadled. read more

It seems like they must read their yelp reviews because I noticed a few things have changed in the years since Jenn S. reviewed the place. The prices are clearly labeled on a menu board when you walk in and there is a big sign saying cash only. I didn't notice the kiddie cup listed on the menu but, you can order it. I got the kaluha coffee brownie (or something labeled along those lines) it was quite delicious! The only downer since there is a make your own sundae bar (yes, I did say downer and make your own sundae bar in the same sentence) is you cannot just get one topping on your ice cream! You have to pay to go all out at the sundae bar which I was not in the mood for. Overall I would be happy to stop in again when I am in North Conway. I will try to save more room next time for the sundae bar! read more

Because you can bring a nice sized container with room in it after they scoop in your ice cream and you've got one trip to LOAD UP on all the classic extras. Two hot sauces, about three cold ones, real strawberries, blueberries, maraschino cherries, Reese's bits, M&M's, nuts, marshmallow, you name it. And they don't charge you for every extra! They have a ton of cool antiques for you to look at and touch (something you can't always do at antique stores, and you just go to those stores to look around when you are bored or it's inclement anyway). I do not believe they make their own ice cream. When you see the flavor Maine Black Bear, it's either Gifford's or Richardson's brand. And it will soon just be Gifford's, since Gifford's is suing Richardson's because MBB ice cream is trademarked. It was fine, decent ice cream. Oh, and real whipped cream on the topping bar. Not that insipid canned whipped cream that is two shakes away from making butter shoot out of the plastic nozzle. Go away, you cheap alternative! We stopped in here today after a hike, a well deserved treat. We had a very different experience than the first reviewer. Right away when we walked in, all of the prices were listed, and a large sign indicated that it was cash only (and that there is a very nearby ATM) While I thought the price was a little high for a medium make it yourself sundae (nearly $7), I would go back again. We got the soft serve as our base, and then proceeded to the toppings bar, where they had all the usual toppings, plus a few bonus toppings. Well, this is an ice cream place by the side of the road with a place for kids to play outside. Just below North Conway. We stopped by here after mini-golf at the Pirate's Cove. My two daughters had a lime rickey and a root beer float, both of which, they report, were "good." I would have bought ice cream for myself and my wife, too, but the place is cash only, and I didn't have a lot of cash. I was not in a mood to be gouged, either, so I didn't use their usurious ATM, which charges $3.00 per withdrawal, with a maximum of $80, a minimum of a 3.75% transaction fee, effectively adding to the cost of the ice cream! So, not much else to say in terms of a review. It feels like a "tourist trap," not a place interested in encouraging repeat business. In the day and age of Square, smart phones, and Level Up, there is something aggressively anti-consumer about not accepting credit cards. That's the vibe I got, anyway. I also found the staff a little surly. I asked about kid's sizes, and believe I was quoted a price lower than a small on the menu (there's no kiddie cup on the menu), but we were not allowed to mix two flavors in such a size, so my kids thought about what they wanted and picked something else. They alsohad some fun flavors like Green Monster (it looked like mint with fudge swirl) and Purple Cow (...it was dark purple). - prices! So much cheaper than certain big chains. My small on a cone PLUS a large in a cup was around $7.50. - ice cream sundae bar! You get to fill up once, but as long as it fits in your cup, you can get as much as you want. - ambiance. Everyone said this place was expensive... And it was. But I'd do it again. They have playground equipment outside for small kids, which is a definite plus. The way it works is if you get a sundae you get one go around on the topping bar, which has your standard stuff: marshmallow cream, hot fudge, oreos, mini gummy bears, etc, you get the idea. My kid ordered a medium cone and got a mountain of ice cream, so a small is definitely good for them. I kind of wonder what a large would look like! The parking area made it look deceptively busy. Cash only, you have to make your selection of flavor at the same time you pay which is right at the entrance. If you want to look at the flavors first, you will lose your place in line. There was absolutely no room for toppings. When we went to the topping bar (which looked like a large salad bar from the door) we quickly realized there wasn't a very good variety of toppings. They had multiple pans with the same toppings. Canned fruits in a gross sauce. Only two candies and crushed cookies. I will say it was clean and the decor was very cool. Great ice cream and innovative concept. Not cheap but for quality ice cream with fun topping bar...worth it. The whipped cream is real... Buy small sundae and top it any way you want. It is plenty of "treat" and not the usual franchised stuff. I think other reviews on rude owners is because people buy ice cream and then try to use the sundae bar without paying for it. A bit of store reorganization for the topping bar right after pick up counter would solve this and keep the workers from "reminding" people not to cheat! read more

Not impressed. I paid $7 for a tiny scoop of ice cream and then could top it off with a variety of items from the sundae bar. Sounds good in theory, right? However, they give you so little ice cream that you want to add a bunch of toppings to make up for it, which takes away from the ice cream flavor. This place is a total ripoff and nothing more than a tourist trap. My girlfriend & I being locals have never visited the place before, but decided to this past weekend because I thought it seemed awesome. I wasn't impressed having to wait in line 10 minutes to get our ice cream, but I figured if so many tourists were there it had to be good, right? WRONG. The ice cream was WAY overpriced. I paid literally over double the price that I would normally pay at other ice cream shops, for a simple Vanilla soft serve in a waffle cone. They don't accept credit or debit cards, it's cash only. But they have a huge sign directing you to their ATM that charges you an extra $3 (On top of your bank fees) to make a withdrawal. The lady running the register seemed annoyed that we even existed. You know customers are an annoyance, they don't contribute to your earning of a paycheck or anything. There is a buffet for toppings, along with a butterscotch and hot fudge pump in front of the buffet. When I was there, there were many kids with their HANDS picking things out of the buffet, while an older staff member stood by watching them and refilling some stuff. I was very uninterested in the topping buffet watching the kids handle the food. I walked over and went to put some butterscotch on my ice cream cone and got promptly scolded by the extremely rude & grumpy old man refilling things. "You cannot put anything on your ice cream cone! Do not touch that! Thanks and goodbye!" I looked at him and said "Seriously?" and he gave me a dirty look and stood in my way, nearly pushing me away from the butterscotch pump, as if I was committing a felony by wanting some on my ice cream. At this point, my girlfriend & I promptly left. I was hoping that the ice cream at least tasted good and was worth not only the wait, but the drama of dealing with the rude staff we had to deal with. WRONG AGAIN! The vanilla soft serve was the absolute worst I've ever tasted in my life. It tasted like someone froze some expired 2% milk and put it in a blender. It was horrible, but damned if I was throwing away a $6 cone of rancid frozen milk.| I apologized to my girlfriend for the horrible experience and shitty ice cream, and we vowed to never return there again. I was so displeased by this entire experience, that I created a Yelp account just to write this review. Do yourself a favor and travel ~10 minutes down to road to Bartlett, NH and go to the ice cream stand there, unless you're taking out an ex girlfriend that you hate for ice cream. We hit this place for Ice Cream sundae's last night. Been here numerous times and I believe it is the only make your own Sundae place in the area (though I am unsure). The place is pretty cool in terms of the memorabilia that is everywhere - including trucks that look like one's that I used when I was a kid. Cool ambiance if you will. In terms of the ice cream, basically on par with most places and their are plenty of toppings to choose from though I thought they had more in the past. Prices are basically inline though Trails End in Bartlett may offer a better ice cream only price level. Also these guys have a playground like Trails End but it is geared to small kids (vs TE having a more "diversified" playground). I would recommend this place as an option - especially if you want to make your own sundaes! read more
